  1. In the spirit of coming clean with respect to "Intellectual Property" I would like to share the evolutionary history of Cow-A-Johnga as starring in "Fun with Cows" posted in this thread: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=189202 Originally I was just going to say something like: In the beginning Ricky the Rat begat MuthaNaycha begat Cow-A-Johnga. But then I realized - OMG - the "borrowing" of genetic code was way more sinister than that. My motivation was to get this project done ASAP - which clearly meant I had to steal. So of course the first waste of time was to spend 2 weeks trying to figure out how to save time. Once I remembered that I hate rigging, hate modeling hands, and hate doing the same generic modeling (arms, legs, body) over & over, my plan of attack became clear. (And now, it's probably best to follow along with the pictures while reading this convoluted explanation.) Contrary to most normal procedure (for others) - I needed to start with a rigged model - my most recent model was MuthaNaycha. Not only did she have nice generic maleable splines in her face & body but she had all the mouth, eye poses (ala Jason Osipa "Stop Staring"). I had been able to do this as I had used the Soulcage mouth rig for both her mouth and eye brows. But where did Mutha Naycha come from? Alain Desrochers' Ricky the Rat of course. He had nice generic splines as well. But where did this odd creature new age fusion man-cow thing come from? Well not only do I have a thing about pigs, I also seem to be fixated on cows (am I revealing too much?) When I started with A:M (ver 7.1) I did a nice pink cow - Mama Moo - and later on I did a B&W cow which descended from the splines of Hash's Putty Mutt (Thom used to be Putty Dude I believe). And then for some unknown reason MamaMoo & BWcow begat SpaceCowGirl - note carefully her charming visage. We always knew at some point SpaceCowGirl would need to breed also. The time was ripe. What better than with Hash's Clown off the 2001 CD? And thus a ManCowClown was born. And his name was John. And he wore glasses stolen from KuKlip (TWO project) (more credits to come) EDIT - Forgot to add that John's rig is a modified Hash 2001 rig, with additions for heel lifts by Mark Skodacek - mtpeak2 and some of my own rigging for dynamic udder (thanks to studying John BigBoote aka Matt Campbell babes)& dynamic tail, and head pointing. Not only did I steal genetics - I stole textures from previous projects. One background also was based on a physical model that Cirque du Soleil is selling. Now that really might be stealing. And of course there is the image of Johnl3d being used (definitely without his permission).
  2. Interesting - I also got an email but it was from some other festival www.ifct.org saying they saw my film (I think on A:M Films) - and that they would refund my entry fee if it didn't get accepted - I took it as a scam-spam email - but perhaps the festival is legit - but the email probably isn't legit. Email contents: "Nancy, I am writing to you about your film "Falling in Love Again." The Int'l Festival of Cinema and Technology is currently programming the festival line-up. I feel it could be beneficial for you to submit the project to the Review Committee. Guidelines are on the "submit" page at www.ifct.org. On the entry form it mentions there is a standard entry fee to submit a film to the festival. Along with the other materials, send a copy of this email and if the film is not accepted, I will make sure you receive a refund by October 20th, 2006. (In other words, if the film is not accepted you will not be out an entry fee.) Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Sincerely, Issac Alexander IFCT-The Int'l Fest of Cinema and Technology 321-206-3655 www.ifct.org" Sorry to hijack thread - I would expect an entry fee - I would not expect someone to refund it.
  3. Congrats Zach - You're stuff is always fun fun fun!
  4. Whaa? What fun would that be ? John is my "soul" reason for getting me back to A:M'ing - He serves as my personal Moooooos. As he put it - "he was just bacon me on" It's so good to feel the venom running thru my clogged arteries once more! Ahhhh the creativity surges... I, of course will deservedly have to watch my baby back ribs - John will undoubtedly be quick to set the poor Maria Porkapotamus on a roasting spit or some other unimaginable nasty nonesense he is so famous for - oh the agony of force fields and cloth material manipulation - I can hear the screams now. Luckily, I now have my own experimental Cow-A-Johnga as an "insurance policy" - to be ever ready for my own brand of tortures. To atone for my sins: Perhaps I should release this charmer for the extras DVD? So that everyone can do with him as they will? Or shall I keep him just for my own devices ? Decisions, decisions... Seriously - Welcome back John - it's all in good fun (ie good fun for me). And Ken - somehow I just udderly knew you would pick up on the boob action. I studied Mr. Bigboote's ever present bouncing babes for a lesson in dynamics. And thanks all for your comments - glad I could make you laugh. Later on I will post a quick description of "The Making of Cow-A-Johnga" - apparently, when time crunched, I am apt to steal elements from everyone (including myself) - and I want to be sure to give credit. EDIT: see http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=190034 for "confessions of a serial plagarist"
  5. Not only do Piggies have long memories, they are impatient. Johnl3d picked on the wrong porker: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=183392 So while John's on vacation (he should be back monday), I decided to welcome him back in absentia & release my evilness into the wild. (Actually the mmc #4 was postponed & this gives me a running start) My homage to John is short but not sweet. For your viewing pleasure (oh no - the pleasure is mine): http://www.intercad-inc.com/nancy/FunWithCows.htm And I must credit a nameless good? samaritan who so generously provided John's image. Obviously there are others about who like to stir up trouble. Comments are welcome - although I'm done. Even I have some self respect & need to moooooove on.
  6. Very Fun Characters & fun sets - the guy with the hat over his eyes might be a challenge to animate ? as the eyes & brows tend to easily help project the emotions of the character , will just mean strong, clearly read body language will be even more important - is he a main char? Looking forward to seeing this one
  7. ok - absolutely amazing! both the model (& that I would find a battleship interesting). Your work is always a treat - and additional credit must be given to you for having an aesthetic that captures the eye.
  8. Do a shaded render - very fast - make sure multi pass is not on as well - select polys to be 4, but before selecting render to file, switch to muscle mode or director mode (assuming you are in the choreography) - so as not to see the bones - unless of course you want to
  9. The default aspect ratio for D1-ntsc is .9 not 1. The aspect ratio shows when you change the resolution in the render to file settings (using advanced mode). This is the reason for your distortion probably.
  10. Fabulous, again - YOU are a master at this! I am amazed at how well you do water effects - I guess living in Las Vegas - you're kinda preoccupied with it? (kidding). Running thru Grand Canyon? The only thing that bothers me is the darkening of the screen before the drippy lens effect (which is excellent) - I 'm guessing that you're wanting to show the camera momentarily going under the water? - but somehow it's distracting & confusing - not sure why - wondering if maybe a half dark image (like in half under water) with skewed, and shaken camera angles might show better - really don't know. I love what you're doing.
  11. Also do a search for any old (previous versions) project files - (if you saved your project files in versions?) If not - you can inspect the text of your project file in a text editor - and look for something that resembles the file name (and path) of the model in the project text file...assuming the model file wasn't embedded. Your project file may be corrupted - so maybe posting it here - someone might be able to tell what's corrupted - and if so - and they can't fix it - Hash might be able to fix (don't know)
  12. excellent, terrific run - and have to add my ditto for great sound effects. What vers are you using ?
  13. Another way is just nudge the bone - a keyframe is then created, (and channels are set up for this bone)- then delete the keyframe, and then hit force keyframe. This will create a keyframe exactly like the last keyframe for the bone. (and again you will probably want to play with the interpolation method between keyframes).
  14. Hmmmm...What a lovely Porkapotamus...up to mischief, are we?
  15. What blew me away in your entry was the intriguing, imaginative story that was being told - took it out of the ordinary for me - and of course it was excellently executed. Loved it. (as a matter of fact there were many entries this time that really had interesting stories as well)
  16. This may be a bit much - but: after creating a key frame at frame 5 for your left arm (any value - doesn't matter) - go back to frame 0, copy the frame for the left arm (select left arm) and then go back to frame 5 and paste. Make sure you have the correct buttons at the very bottom of A:M big window pushed depending on what you want to copy (key bone, or branch or model, with translate, rotate, scale, etc) You might also want to play with the curve editor (switch at bottom of timeline) for your channels for the left arm & set it to "hold" or linear or 0-spline, or for frames 0-5 (go to frame 0, select cps in channel editor, right click on channel select interpolation, select method) not sure - but I suspect there is better explanation in TAOM (with pictures)
  17. Those are without a doubt fabulously creative and appealing characters - Given how amazing "Perk" turned out , I'm sure to be blown away by this next production. What a great opportunity for participation. Wow! Go for it people!
  18. another very fun one...You always seem to snag my interest (of course I will resist mentioning anything about someone being dropped on their head when they were a baby - just waaaay too obvious...) I haven't forgotten...yet (I'm old, not as old as you of course, so you may be in luck). hee hee...someday, somewhere, when you least expect it...
  19. under tools/options/render - and you have advanced checked - change quality to shaded - show decals is an option 4th from bottom, it does not show when rendering to final - you can also set these options when rendering to a file (under options tag) - must have quality = shaded in order to set decals on/off - then can change back to final quality. and yes tga is a good format. you might experience a temporary glitch when changing decals on/off and rendering - just click in window (to refresh, perhaps) - then try rendering again (still not understanding why you see decals in frame 0 & not other frames tho, hope this helps you)
  20. not sure why you see decals on frame 0 & not in non frame zero - Perhaps the option for showing decals in your rendering settings (shaded mode) is not set to ON.
  21. fabulous work!...amazing!....& soooo depressing...
  22. I like very much how you refined the second clip but ...but... - since I might have led you astray with respect to twinning (she says sheepishly)... I actually prefer the final ending pose in the first clip. In the second, the left arm ends too wimpishly - needs more tension in it (which is what you had in the first clip) ... not sure how to fix. It's really done quite well. I wish I were able to do as well, then I might be more likely to come up with a suggestion...
  23. You might try having an animated decal (series of tga's) applied as a transparency map always at 100% - where the hole part goes from black to white in some number of steps, and one animates the frame number rather than the percentage of transparency.
  24. Looking very good - Love how it starts out - up to and including when he says "have a point' - after that I am distracted by the sorta twinning of the arm/hand motion - it's of course not exact twinning - but the general movement is too similar - Personally, would also like to see more exaggerated facial expression - but perhaps that's a matter of the lighting, and a lot of head movement making it difficult to read. love the character as well
  25. from the website: "Despiser" is the tightly scripted tale of a washed-up, out-of-work artist ... making an unexpected visit to purgatory ... Yikes!!! - Sounds realllyyyyy scary - Is this a true story? (except for the washed up part) Love your demo reel - and yes parts can be edited
