Meet the Little Barbarian!
NancyGormezano replied to trajcedrv's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
I did kinda suspect that you might be going for a sweaty look - so it wasn't too far off - Maybe beads of sweat -painted with bump or displacement ? - could even animate them dripping. I think varying the facial tone will also help communicate the flushed look as well. (also see Schiltzy for good variation in face coloring) -
It is excellent - characters are so appealing! Love the environment. As for the last still - if it's supposed to be a publicity shot - I would change the way Boris's nose is in front of Jimbo - it's a bit confusing to read the silhouettes of both characters - however if it's just a frame in the animation - then it doesn't matter. Really a wonderful story/concept idea as well.

Meet the Little Barbarian!

Really neat model. Looks like a happy, friendly barbarian. A good drinking buddy? I like how you've got such a nice rugged pore/bump texture on the skin - I think the specularity is a bit high (perhaps reduce size? intensity?), as he looks a bit metallic. Maybe some variation in color on the skin might be interesting, as he appears monotone. - ie could add areas of patchy color for cheeks, nose, tops of knuckles, a scar or two. Might have to tone down the intensity of red color of the overall skin tho, to add more localized patchy color. Dusan Kastelic's Perk is an excellent example of patchy areas of coloring. Yep - Definitely a high class Pillager! -
I'm wondering if one of your face poses for the box is causing the problem - it looks like there are 2 slightly different expressions on the box. Perhaps you are manipulating some cp's that you didn't think you were.

Opening animation for "Astronomy 101" ...
NancyGormezano replied to wedgeeguy's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
It has a great look, great sound quality, very nice animation, overall very well done. Love the simplicity of the characters & their readability. BUT pace is pretty painful for an old person. It felt to me like there was way too much time spent on set up of the characters - but I'm guessing that was done to draw the kids in without them realizing what they were getting into. I like very much using the door to introduce characters (things start to pick up in interest there) I am definitely not the right person to critique how this would be received by 3rd & 4th graders - hopefully the teachers in this community can give better feedback with respect to that. Very impressive effort. -
Excellent - I've always loved your style - so much so that I bit the bullet and finally installed qt 7 just so I could see it (and motivated me to I figure out how to have both qt6 pro work as well) You have excellent gestures on the cowboy - very believable, natural - the kid is good too - but cowboy is better.

The Making of "Fun With Cows"

Ohhhh! How could I have forgotten the most important plagarism of them all! From the GREAT JOHNL3D website: http://johnl.inform.net/pages/10material11.htm Yes! I used John's Misty Exploding Sprites from the Hash CD project almost verbatim for the blowing up of John's head in the beginning titles. Appropriate, doncha think? (I know, I know - Enough with the confession crap already - Feeling a little queasy, are we?) -

The sound does not seem low to me at all - might even be too loud - but it would be real hard to evaluate this (and ridiculous as I am sorta losing my hearing). Who knows how differently I've got my speakers turned up, or my settings on volume control compared to your system. I like the rendering - very lovely - but I also am not getting a sense of new fallen snow - could use some irregularity and light fluffy texture on those smooth city sidewalks - and to make the scene a little more interesting (but it's plenty interesting enough) - perhaps the dog can leave some tiny footprints in the snow -

and even more stealing that I just remembered - the teeth are from "HER" off the Hash 2004? CD. And the eyeballs are modified (simplified) from someone's generic model - which I can't remember - maybe Colin's? uber eye? It's really tricky to change when stealing has become such a rewarding way of life. John no one has any photos of me. Maybe because I don't have any friends? That's always been a mystery to me. -

With respect to the hat - perhaps you could have him grab it as it flies from his head - ie like catching it - rather than have it go out of scene. and with respect to the lighting outside the window - I saw the blue render first and thought beautiful - but then when I went back to scene 5 - I saw the brownish (which is also nice) - probably the bluish (ao)communicates winter better - but the brown is moodier & more grungy. Also it would be nice if perhaps the dog could have long shadows to make it more dramatic. glad to see you resurrecting this. -
I remember this - I'm glad to see you're getting back to it - it's definitely worth picking up again.

The Making of "Fun With Cows"
NancyGormezano replied to NancyGormezano's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
AND the absolutely worstest of sins is that I stole the music from the web of a sample of the Wiggles tune "I'm a Cow". http://www.familyonboard.com/TT_WigglesThe.html and the Jerry Lewis voice clip at the end is from daily wave web site. http://www.dailywav.com/ If it's any consolation, my just desserts for these sins will be that I would never be able to distribute this work. Heh heh. I had my fun. -
In the spirit of coming clean with respect to "Intellectual Property" I would like to share the evolutionary history of Cow-A-Johnga as starring in "Fun with Cows" posted in this thread: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=189202 Originally I was just going to say something like: In the beginning Ricky the Rat begat MuthaNaycha begat Cow-A-Johnga. But then I realized - OMG - the "borrowing" of genetic code was way more sinister than that. My motivation was to get this project done ASAP - which clearly meant I had to steal. So of course the first waste of time was to spend 2 weeks trying to figure out how to save time. Once I remembered that I hate rigging, hate modeling hands, and hate doing the same generic modeling (arms, legs, body) over & over, my plan of attack became clear. (And now, it's probably best to follow along with the pictures while reading this convoluted explanation.) Contrary to most normal procedure (for others) - I needed to start with a rigged model - my most recent model was MuthaNaycha. Not only did she have nice generic maleable splines in her face & body but she had all the mouth, eye poses (ala Jason Osipa "Stop Staring"). I had been able to do this as I had used the Soulcage mouth rig for both her mouth and eye brows. But where did Mutha Naycha come from? Alain Desrochers' Ricky the Rat of course. He had nice generic splines as well. But where did this odd creature new age fusion man-cow thing come from? Well not only do I have a thing about pigs, I also seem to be fixated on cows (am I revealing too much?) When I started with A:M (ver 7.1) I did a nice pink cow - Mama Moo - and later on I did a B&W cow which descended from the splines of Hash's Putty Mutt (Thom used to be Putty Dude I believe). And then for some unknown reason MamaMoo & BWcow begat SpaceCowGirl - note carefully her charming visage. We always knew at some point SpaceCowGirl would need to breed also. The time was ripe. What better than with Hash's Clown off the 2001 CD? And thus a ManCowClown was born. And his name was John. And he wore glasses stolen from KuKlip (TWO project) (more credits to come) EDIT - Forgot to add that John's rig is a modified Hash 2001 rig, with additions for heel lifts by Mark Skodacek - mtpeak2 and some of my own rigging for dynamic udder (thanks to studying John BigBoote aka Matt Campbell babes)& dynamic tail, and head pointing. Not only did I steal genetics - I stole textures from previous projects. One background also was based on a physical model that Cirque du Soleil is selling. Now that really might be stealing. And of course there is the image of Johnl3d being used (definitely without his permission).

Interesting - I also got an email but it was from some other festival www.ifct.org saying they saw my film (I think on A:M Films) - and that they would refund my entry fee if it didn't get accepted - I took it as a scam-spam email - but perhaps the festival is legit - but the email probably isn't legit. Email contents: "Nancy, I am writing to you about your film "Falling in Love Again." The Int'l Festival of Cinema and Technology is currently programming the festival line-up. I feel it could be beneficial for you to submit the project to the Review Committee. Guidelines are on the "submit" page at www.ifct.org. On the entry form it mentions there is a standard entry fee to submit a film to the festival. Along with the other materials, send a copy of this email and if the film is not accepted, I will make sure you receive a refund by October 20th, 2006. (In other words, if the film is not accepted you will not be out an entry fee.) Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Sincerely, Issac Alexander IFCT-The Int'l Fest of Cinema and Technology 321-206-3655 www.ifct.org" Sorry to hijack thread - I would expect an entry fee - I would not expect someone to refund it.

Whaa? What fun would that be ? John is my "soul" reason for getting me back to A:M'ing - He serves as my personal Moooooos. As he put it - "he was just bacon me on" It's so good to feel the venom running thru my clogged arteries once more! Ahhhh the creativity surges... I, of course will deservedly have to watch my baby back ribs - John will undoubtedly be quick to set the poor Maria Porkapotamus on a roasting spit or some other unimaginable nasty nonesense he is so famous for - oh the agony of force fields and cloth material manipulation - I can hear the screams now. Luckily, I now have my own experimental Cow-A-Johnga as an "insurance policy" - to be ever ready for my own brand of tortures. To atone for my sins: Perhaps I should release this charmer for the extras DVD? So that everyone can do with him as they will? Or shall I keep him just for my own devices ? Decisions, decisions... Seriously - Welcome back John - it's all in good fun (ie good fun for me). And Ken - somehow I just udderly knew you would pick up on the boob action. I studied Mr. Bigboote's ever present bouncing babes for a lesson in dynamics. And thanks all for your comments - glad I could make you laugh. Later on I will post a quick description of "The Making of Cow-A-Johnga" - apparently, when time crunched, I am apt to steal elements from everyone (including myself) - and I want to be sure to give credit. EDIT: see http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=190034 for "confessions of a serial plagarist"

Not only do Piggies have long memories, they are impatient. Johnl3d picked on the wrong porker: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=183392 So while John's on vacation (he should be back monday), I decided to welcome him back in absentia & release my evilness into the wild. (Actually the mmc #4 was postponed & this gives me a running start) My homage to John is short but not sweet. For your viewing pleasure (oh no - the pleasure is mine): http://www.intercad-inc.com/nancy/FunWithCows.htm And I must credit a nameless good? samaritan who so generously provided John's image. Obviously there are others about who like to stir up trouble. Comments are welcome - although I'm done. Even I have some self respect & need to moooooove on.

Very Fun Characters & fun sets - the guy with the hat over his eyes might be a challenge to animate ? as the eyes & brows tend to easily help project the emotions of the character , will just mean strong, clearly read body language will be even more important - is he a main char? Looking forward to seeing this one

ok - absolutely amazing! both the model (& that I would find a battleship interesting). Your work is always a treat - and additional credit must be given to you for having an aesthetic that captures the eye.

Scrubbing Not Going Well & Quick Preview of Video
NancyGormezano replied to Kurrykid's topic in New Users
Do a shaded render - very fast - make sure multi pass is not on as well - select polys to be 4, but before selecting render to file, switch to muscle mode or director mode (assuming you are in the choreography) - so as not to see the bones - unless of course you want to -
The default aspect ratio for D1-ntsc is .9 not 1. The aspect ratio shows when you change the resolution in the render to file settings (using advanced mode). This is the reason for your distortion probably.

Andy Gibbons Alien character
NancyGormezano replied to markeh's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
Fabulous, again - YOU are a master at this! I am amazed at how well you do water effects - I guess living in Las Vegas - you're kinda preoccupied with it? (kidding). Running thru Grand Canyon? The only thing that bothers me is the darkening of the screen before the drippy lens effect (which is excellent) - I 'm guessing that you're wanting to show the camera momentarily going under the water? - but somehow it's distracting & confusing - not sure why - wondering if maybe a half dark image (like in half under water) with skewed, and shaken camera angles might show better - really don't know. I love what you're doing. -
Also do a search for any old (previous versions) project files - (if you saved your project files in versions?) If not - you can inspect the text of your project file in a text editor - and look for something that resembles the file name (and path) of the model in the project text file...assuming the model file wasn't embedded. Your project file may be corrupted - so maybe posting it here - someone might be able to tell what's corrupted - and if so - and they can't fix it - Hash might be able to fix (don't know)
