Since this was a test and my computer is slow I had this set to 1 pass on multipass. I changed it to 3 passes and the ball behaved properly after all not disappearing completely here is a short render
clothtesting2_m3.mov
one problem solved
Okay it has something to do with the sprites and simcloth combo
clothtesting2a.mov
this is a differet view and a lot of stuff becomes invisible
clothtesting2b.mov
same view with sprites turned off you might be able to see the cloth move
testingcloth2a.zip
Here is the v13 project I will try to see if its the way the materials /transparency was applies with the sprites to the cloth
sprite is spots.tga on the cd
shaded wireframe
clothtesting2w.mov
If anyone plays with this a finds something let me know.
Thanks

Thanks Dhar and Nancy, I am not sure why the ball is being obscured. I noticed that after I posted. I apppears to be a corner of the cloth that flips up and blocks the ball. I have not had time to look into it.

Caroline just stole my suggestions I often will often reconnect each spline around the 5 point patch. In case your interested here is a v13 project with simple penguin I did earlier.

bicycle.mov
This is an animation I did, all the characters are minipic fonts with only the bicycle modified to roll.
If you mean have the text fly arounnd etc this should be an extreme sample.
do a search ...click search in upper right and you should get lots of hits

simple use of render as lines...should have checked pose before render weird end snap

spring.zip
If you really want to model a spring start in v13 at least start new model right click in PWS pick wizard primirtive then feather and play with settings
Did a quick example here
Thanks
I saved this off the reference manual it might help others with ideas they are similar but both are interesting

poseexpress.mov
Okay I thought using an expression to control a repeating action is great but how would I add a pose slider to vary that expression.
I came up with simple idea in the example above I made a pose that controlled the scale of a bone not assigned any cp's
I made a sine expression that scaled the y scale of the model over time but used the control bones scale value to control the effect of the expression
The left model has the scaling expression effect turned down on the up cycle then set up for the down cycle
The middle model has full effect of the expression for the whole cycle
The last has about 30% of the expression effect for the whole cycle
All models are the same just setup different with the pose slider and colored differently
So what use could this have...think of a model breathing slowing and shallow at first then because of some action begins to breath faster (which could be adjusted with another slider) and heavier

Thoughts? yes no John you are crazy.... Questions...
breathe.mov
Okay this uses expressions to control the XYZ position and Y height if spheres and the length of the hair and the XYZ Scale of the material. The Chaos is the use of the Rand() which returns a value from 0 to 1
Okay last two then someone can post something useful
Based on something Rodney said

expression spins hello

Then hopefully this should stop my nonsense
