  1. Thank you again Nancy for this post and the others you have answered.
  2. Hi Glenn - thank you - I'll check it out.
  3. Hi - I want to look into learning Bump Maps - does anyone know of any tutorials they can send me a link to - I did a search, but couldn't really find anything. Thanks for your help - Eric
  4. Hi - I'm working on a gorilla model and posted in the work in progress forum and David Simmons mentions a few things including the hair- "I'm not sure about the hair or the chest scars in these renders. In these renders, it looks like the hair could be thickened at its' base and the scar could use a bump or displacement map" How do you thicken the hair at the base? I am looking in the Technical Reference - and it mentions "the thickness can vary along it's length" - I am in AM in the "properties" of the hair system - and it just has a "Thickness" with a percentage, but nothing about the thickness over the length (thicker at the base) Any help to clear this up would be appreciated. Have a great weekend, Eric
  5. Great work as always Stian - you keep me motivated. ;-) Have a great holiday, Eric
  6. Hey Geoff - thanks for the compliments - yes, I used a rotoscope of a Glock 9mm. I thought it would be funny to have some little animal trying to take his bananna and have him spray him w/ bullets for about 4 seconds from a gaitlin gun and completely miss him. Not exactly sure what I am going to do w/ him yet, just had that idea. I got busy with my "actual" job and haven't had time to do anything in the last 3 days. -Eric
  7. Thanks for the comments everyone. David, I appreciate your good eye and comments on the detailed stuff - I'll work on the fingers a bit and see if I can get them looking better. I wasn't aware that hair could be thickened at the base - I'll pull out the technical reference and look that up. And I'll look into the bump or displacement map - I haven't played around with those features. Thanks again for comments, they are much appreciated. I plan on doing a short animation of him jumping into the screen with a gaitlin gun and firing back and forth for a few seconds with flames coming out the front of the gun and the shells flying all over - thought that would be a challenge... I'm sure I will be posting several times for help with that as usual.
  8. Hi - I just finished modeling the gorilla for another modeling practice project - concentrating on more detailed modeling - still having a problem at getting my models exact, but it is starting to flow a little better - still a ways to go before I gets as skilled as a lot of you guys. For example the watch on the gorilla's wrist - if you look close some of the pieces are no super smooth, but hey practice practice practice makes perfect right? Need to work on the gorilla's lips and nose a little more, I may have accidentally moved some of the pixels - I noticed when I rendered the pics. Anyway, here goes - any suggestions on anything would be appreciated. Thanks - Eric
  9. Hi - wanted to post the first pic of my new modeling practice project. I need practice modeling, decalling, materials, and hair ... so pretty much everything. So I went with a gorilla - I thought I might make a "guerilla gorilla" - with a gatlin gun, knife... full military setup for detailed modeling practice. Anyway, I'll post as I go along, and any suggestions that would help make it better are very welcome. I need to play around with the hair a little more - It is a little long - although it is kinda different - any thoughts?
  10. Hey Steven - everyone here is great. I have never posted and not had it answered usually within 30 minutes. I have been going at this for about 3 years and still post questions on a regular basis and people always take the time to help me with - it's a great group.
  11. Thank you Furchur - very useful toobar - and I see the hair on/off on that too. One other question - when you "copy/flip/attach" - does it copy all the hair combing work you do? -E
  12. Hey Ken - that was it, thank you - that would have saved me a ton of time on my rat model. ;-) Thanks again as always, Eric
  13. Hi - I am working on a new gorilla character and creating several hair systems - is it possible to turn the hair systems "off" - while the rest of the character is being modelled. I wanted to do all the work of moving and brushing the hair particles, but didn't want to have to remove the hair systems off parts of the model while creating the rest of it - or even during an animation - it will be way to slow to animate him, with the hair turned on - didn't know if I had to do everything else with the model and do the hair last. Thanks - Eric
  14. Hi Kelly - that is part of the humor of it - it really isn't water - it's just him standing on the white backdrop and then the shark fin comes in
  15. Thanks guys. Paul - I knew someone was going to mention movement of the canoe - I caught that right after it took 14 hours to render. And the wiggling toes and fingers would be a good touch - maybe when the shark shows up - he gets nervous and starts figiting a bit.
  16. Hi Elliott - thanks, not that long actually - about 17 hours total - I have a few different camera angles that I rendered seperately.
  17. Hi - just wanted to post the final images and short animation of the Scuba Tree Frog - modeling practice project I have been working on. Here is a link to the short animation on my site and below are some pics from the animation that are also on the site. To see the Frog animation click on Frog image button on the top - when it loads click on "View Animation: Scuba Frog" www.3DCharacterAnimation.biz Also wanted to thank everyone that answered my posts when I got caught up on this project and all the other - your help is very much appreciate.
  18. Nevermind, I got it... to embarassed to even admit what the problem was.
  19. Hi Luuk - sorry I should have been more exact - it is the black circle around the green part of the eyeball. Thanks.
  20. I am working on a new character and was doing a quick render and the render came out w/ a black line around the eye - I haven't changed anything in the advanced options - it almost looks like a toon render, but toon render is off - anyone know what I am doing wrong?
  21. Hi - can anyone suggest how to set up a solid white background in a choreography? I tried doing a white floor and setting the camera background as white, but the floor had a lot of brown to it. I also created a ramp model w/ a slight curvature in the back (like a skateboard ramp), but I don't think I have the lighting right - I have been experimenting around w/ putting lights here and there, but can't seem to get it to look really good. Any suggestions would be great - thank you.
  22. Ah, I see. Again, thank you very much for taking the extra time to work with me though this water tutorial - your help and time is very appreciated. Have a greate weekend. E
  23. Hi John - yes, I have taken a deep breath, am now relaxing. Thank you for the project file - I have been comparing your version and mine and the difference is on the waves model when you scroll over the timeline on yours you can see the movement of the waves and on mine it is just still when you scroll, so I am doing something wrong in that area. Anyway, thank you again, for helping me. I also opened up your simplebab.zip and you mentioned you animated the mesh, but I have it open and don't see where you animated it, just that the displacement of the material is set to 1500? How'd you do it? It looks great and like you said very simple.
