  1. Hi John - the simplebab.mov looks great! I have to run out, but when I get back, I'm going to download it and check it out. I had also put the intensity to 0 and was able to get the displace map from above which I applied as a decal to the graph. I just can't get the final chor to work - I've got the shortcut to bump motion set to 5 seconds and also the displace motion's cycle set to 5 seconds. The decal image (.mov) the grey one that you have above and that I rendered - is set for 5 seconds - set to "displacement" and set to -7%. I also tried it at 100% like you suggested - and still no luck. I have seriously rendered this thing out about 50 times trying different settings on everything. It's to the point now that I have invested so much time in trying to get this to work, it would be very disappointing to not get it working - so I'll keep trying different things before I let it go. I'll probably end up using your simplebab.mov idea - it looks great. Thanks again - Eric
  2. Hi John - I started from scratch and tried the tutorial again, and still no luck. Please - only if you have the time, but don't put too much effort into it. Or if there is anyone else that had success w/ the tut and doesn't mind sharing the project file, while I have some of my hair left it would be appreciated. Thanks - E
  3. John - I am not getting any displacement or movement - I am going to start from scratch and go through the entire tutorial one more time to see if I have any luck. The darktree simbiot water materials aren't bad, but I just the love the look of the babbage one, I just can't believe this program was capable of doing that that many years ago. Thanks - E
  4. Hi Ramon - here is the Babbage Patch tutorial I have been referring to Babbage Patch Tutorial Website - Eric
  5. John - I tried that, and still no luck - this is very frustrating, this is the second day I have been playing with this. Did you get it working? If so would you mind posting it where I could download the project file, so I could pick it apart and see what I am doing wrong. I know other people were having problems with this too, just because it was made for many versions back. It might help a lot of people that were interested in it to have a working version of it. Thank again for taking your time to help, it is much appreciated - Eric
  6. Hi John - I did that part and got the displacement map working fine (#4 on the tut) I rendered it out as a .mov. Then in step #5 I applied the .mov as a decal on the new grid as "displacement" with a value of -7. Then I open up the "final render" chor and set it up to render for 5 seconds - the final rendered movie has no movement, just a still image. Not sure what I am doing wrong - any ideas? Thank you for your time. -Eric
  7. Are you the one that did the guy on the tricycle? Like largento said, it's a great unique style. Have you animated any of them yet - would like to see that?
  8. Me again - I have been playing around with the Babbage Patch water tutorial for the past 6 hours and having problems making it work. I downloaded the project file - and have it in AM 14. Anyone that has done this tutorial in a recent version and got it working - I would love some help. I have the "final scene" open and put the two created actions "displace motion" and bump map in it. I go to render it for 5 seconds and it just renders the image w/ no motion... not sure what I am doing wrong - I have trying things over and over an no success. I did get the displacement map motion working when I rendered it. Thank you - Eric
  9. This is odd, and it happened once before, but it was awhile back and I forgot the fix. I am rendering a 5 second animation and have it set at 320x240, but it rendering the animation at around 150x120 with a black background filling up the additional space. Was this something to do w/ a camera setting, that I have set wrong?
  10. Thank you Nancy - I knew there was some way of doing it.
  11. Figured it out - you have to click on the little icon "show more drivers" - under there it lists the shortcut to displacement water - where under properties you translate it over time to get the material movement. The other question is can anyone tell me how you can make a quick grid like the one in the middle of the page here CLICK HERE There is the one in the model library, but it only has 16 squares - is there a way to easily insert more squares?? Thanks again - Eric
  12. Hi - has anyone done the Baggage Patch Water tutorial in verion 14? Link to Tutorial I am having trouble with the channels section - is that layed out differently in version 14? Thanks
  13. Thanks again for the nice words- I know... I got lazy w/ the knife holder - I'll have to fix that The item on his side that looks like a bag on is actually his face mask, which I modeled from his head - it just looks big, because he has a big head and eyes. The model is just for modeling practice - I plan and putting together a short animation w/ him on a search and rescue raft on the ocean - I am playing around with a water tutorial now. After that I'll stick it as another sample on my site. -Eric 3D Character Animation Website
  14. Thanks for the compliments. "But hey, what does a frog need scuba diving gear for?" That was what my 3 year said "Daddy take it off, frogs don't need that, they just jump in the water. I tried to explain - daddy need modeling practice and the scuba suit has a lot of detail - he gave me an odd look and walked away.
  15. Hello - I thought I would try to knock it up a notch in my modeling to see what I was capable of doing at this point. With a little struggling I think I am finally starting to "get it" a bit. I modeled the frog and was trying to think of the most detailed, challenging outfit I could put him in, and I went with a scuba diving setup. So anyway - here we are - I still need to rig him up and think of a short animation to put him in, but this is what I have so far. Any suggestions that you can see to help impove my modeling or anything else, would be much appreciate. Thanks - Eric
  16. I'll check there - thank you.
  17. Hi William - I actually didn't use 3DPainter - I just created decals and applied them in AM. Since we are talking about 3DPainter - I was having an issue with it is why I didn't decal using it - I opened up 3DPainter from within AM, then in 3DPainter I - -Create Decal Tiling -1024x1024 (Transparent) - moved in on a top view of the hand - click on start projection paint - paint orange on the hand - orange painted on fine - clicked on accept projection paint - it appears like it is saving it - then when it switches back in the main mode - the hand is still silver, the orange was not applied. Not sure what I am doing wrong - any ideas. Thanks for the help.
  18. Hi Eric - all the normals were facing out, so that wasn't the problem. I deleted all the orange decals and that took the orange square away and then I reapplied them and the square was gone. But then when I moved a few cp's around on the toes to clean up a bit, it was back... kinda odd. So I guess I'll do everything that needs to be done and apply the orange decals last. Thanks for you help... once again Eric helping Eric.
  19. Hi - this is my first stab at putting decals on a character for color variations. I keep getting this small oranage square on the frog's neck. I have reapplied the orange to the hand about 4 times - even hiding all mesh but the hands when I am decaling it - and I am still getting the orange square - any ideas what I am doing wrong? Also, any suggestions or comments on the decaling itself that might make it look better would be appreciated. Thanks - Eric
  20. Hi John - that is very cool - I am going to have to learn about gradient combiners.
  21. Hi Luuk - I actually just bought A:M Paint - I am going to play around with this model in there - looks like a great program.
  22. I am trying to work on my modeling skills to bring them up a bit and decided to create a red eyes tree frog character and had a couple of questions about the materials I placed on him. First question- is there a way to make where the green and white mix under his mouth "blend" together instead of a perfect line? Second question- is there a way to make the green skin not so perfect - have some of the green bumps smaller and some larger? Thanks for any help - Eric
  23. Thanks Luuk - before I read this I closed the model down and clicked on it to bring it back up and the problem was gone - I'll try what you mentioned if it happens again.
  24. Hi - for some reason my rotoscope, screen lines and rulers have disappeared from every angle. Rulers are checked "on" and the rotoscope is also "on" and I have shut down the program and restarted w/ the same problem - this happens now and then - has anyone else run into this and know how to fix it? Unless I am just doing something real stupid, which I don't think is the issue this time.
