  1. Yeah, Apple does everything they do for the benefit of mankind, not for the money or their shareholders... I understand... As I said before: It has advantages, but it is not developer friendly (which my whole post was about) nor the only way to go or the unarguably best way to do it. A linux-kind of way is more developer friendly and it unarguably brings other problems with it. Windows has problems in that direction too. Don't get mad at me... I am just expressing myself and how I feel it as a developer of some kind and I daily face these problems when developing Apps for the iOS systems. It is just a very closed environment and it is very troublesome in many situations in which I try to think out of the box and it would be MUCH easier to develop everything on one computer of my choice and not on one computer of Apple's choice. I just do not like to be forced and Apple forces me very much... It is Apple's fault that the software does not run no longer. I do not doubt that they have good reasons to do it, but they changed the OS in a way that older software can run into problems. The software has not started changing. Since as soon as anybody will say something against Apple people will get angry, lets do an example with an imaginary company called "VaccuTopClean". (i just mad that one up... if a company like that exists, my honest appologizes that I have used the name of it): You have a house with american jacks in it and tomorrow there are no longer vaccum cleaner available with compatible connections, who has broken the link? Your house or the guys who decided that other jacks are better? Even if they tell you 2 weeks before they change it, that they will change it: You will have to change your jacks and it will force you to buy new jacks, maybe even rebuilt your house if they changed more than just the connections and that will cost you money and time, not the vaccum cleaner company. And now think of that and imagine, that when the vaccum cleaner companiy changes the connection they will even earn more money, because they will sell you the new hardware to make it compatible to the new jacks and the tools you need to make it compatible with it, because the new jacks can not be installed without a certain kind of tool only they can develope because they have made the tool in a way hat noone else can built it - not because the others are just less intelligent but because the company putted in a keylock only they have the key for... what would you say about that? That is the easy truth behind it. The other truth is: You will very likely have to change your jacks because you just need a vaccum cleaner or your house is just not important enough to say something against it. And that is, what Steffen needs to do now: Install new jacks to the house. Steffen will very likely have a look at the problem very soon and come back to us with more information about that. If v16 is still working there is a quite good chance that he is able to do something about that problem... See you *Fuchur*
  2. Sorry, but just not right. They force you to use a Mac-System with the current MacOS, pay money to be able to develope for their platform, use their IDE and so on. It really is not developer friendly. Play after their rules and everything is fine, but try to play outside of them (like using a Linux or Windows system, use a OS which is not current, etc.) and you are not able to develope at all. This has some advantages (at least for apple) but all in all it is very hard for someone who wants to develope for different platforms. For Windows you can at least compile many applications (MFC-based once are tricky, everything else is not) from other OSes without having to use their IDE (Visual Studio is only needed for MFC-based applications) if the compiler runs on it (like GCC+, which runs on Macs, Windows and Linux and is free). For Linux you can compile with any OS and any IDE you want. Apple may be developer friendly for (no other but current) Mac-developers, but that is the only aspect they tolerate at all. It is a pure "one to rule the world"-approach and the biggest disadvantage Macs have if you ask me. And it is important for a developer that the OS is backward compatible which ApplesOS is not that good at. This is a advantage for developing the OS (or for Apple) because you do not have to careful about what you change, but it is a real pain in the ass for developers... See you *Fuchur*
  3. As I understand it: Try to uninstall A:M and re-install it after the OS update. If the preference-files are only corrupted while updating the OS (not constantly while using it) it may be as simple as that. Worth a try if you ask me. Be sure to move your master0.lic to another location before uninstalling to be able to put it back into the same folder after you have reinstalled. See you *Fuchur*
  4. I am one of the users actively participating in the v18 beta testing. I have a Mac which is running Maverick but I use my A:M licence on my PC (since I prefer the way A:M's perfoms on a Windows PC). I have also been wondering about the status of the Mac version because I have considered switching to the Mac for my A:M work. (I run Windows just for A:M) I will contact Hash to see if I can get a temporary licence to also run to run the beta on my Mac so that I can try to help resolve any problems that may be present in it now. I will keep you posted... > Try the trial: A:M Trial See you *Fuchur*
  5. Which GPU are you too using? Are the drivers up to date? See you *Fuchur*
  6. Nvidia and ATI/AMD (both gpus and apus) both work fine for me. I never tried it with Intel solutions... maybe it is a problem with them? Steffen may know more about that. See u *Fuchur*
  7. When I installed it on the other user login, it generated a crash report as soon as it kicked out of the launch. I went through as much of it as I could, but I couldn't understand it. I went ahead and sent it to Apple. You may want to send that report to Steffen too. > A:M Reports I'll tell him about this thread just in case he missed it till now. See you *Fuchur*
  8. Yes, you can set a target poly count! What would be cool is to be able to bring it in with the UVs and easily use the higher res version to generate displacement. I think I will still be able to do that, but it may take another step... I'm thinking that I could take a textured version from A:M out as an .obj and bring it back into Zbrush and use the high-res details to generate a displacement map. Or maybe TROER might be a way (but it wasn't able to open this one...) I did that with 3dCoat... it should be quite easy with ZBrush too. Looks very promising Will! > See my cameleon-thread here. See you *Fuchur*
  9. Technically spoken it is if the licence system takes the os in account to create a unique identifier If it does not it will be the same technically. (-> this means from a programmer point of view not a seller) I do think that it may not be taken in account and that only hardware is if i listen too people who can run win and mac versions with the same lic-file.
  10. Just a quick question: Why do you need to put a bone to each CP? Would it not be easier to just use CP-Animation for that or do you want to create dynamic constraints on each bone or what is the reason behind that? See you *Fuchur* PS: I think this should be rather easy to implement with a script-language which can manipulate text-files.
  11. Yes as long as we are not talking about something before A:M v6 or something like that.. just guessing the version... v8 and up will run on any newer windows (xp, vista, win7 or 8 or 8.1). I would recommend win7 over win8.1 but that is really just a matter of taste if u r not too much used to windows it will not make a huge difference since u will have to learn anyway. But win7 is better tested with am... I could be wrong but i think you can run setup machine2 on windows but u need to install A:M 32bit to do that. (You can install both next to eachother with 64 bit windows. See u *Fuchur*

    From 1994

It really has been removed by the user and like that it can not be seen in any browser BUT it STILL is a good time to get rid of IE8 because in fact ANY time is a good time to get rid of it... See you *Fuchur*

It really does not matter what you get. Anything will be better . I am a Firefox guy, Chrome is fine too, IE10 is much better than IE8 too (I am not sure if you can get that for XP, since MS does have some restrictions there) and you can use Safari (I am not recommending that for a PC user, but it still is much better than IE8)... Every single one will be better, more secure, have more features and will be more customizeable if you want. Just get rid of IE8. There is only one kind of browser that is less good: IE I like firefox for three reasons: - Mozilla is an organisation, not a big company trying to sell you stuff and collecting data with you using your browser. - It has a better interface if you ask me... for many features in Chrome you need to know shortcuts and I am not a shortcut guy. - FireFox has the best developer plugins for Websites available (like Firebug, WebDeveloperToolbar, LifeHeaders, etc.) Speedwise there is no real winner between FireFox and Chrome... one version Chrome is faster, next day FireFox beats Chrome and the next day it is the other way around... in the end: If you use one of those two, you are using one of the best browsers available. See you *Fuchur*
  14. It is very unlikely that you will be able to use the same lic-file for both. You will have to ask Jason to move the licence after that. But that may take a few days when you ask for it. You could of course use the trial-version till you got win7 on the system and activate A:M permanently on that after that. It should give you the time to set up win7 and work till then with A:M. See you *Fuchur*
  15. I am quite sure you did try to reactivate it using the Views-Panel and restarted your Mac just in case, right? Did you try to reset A:M (Help > Reset Settings). In general this should be done by reinstalling, but it is worth a try if for instance it is trying get these setting from another installation somehow. See you *Fuchur*
  16. Yes, since v4 you can buy a private use version of 3d Coat for 99 Dollars (instead of about 350 Dollars for the full version). ... > http://3d-coat.com/buy-now/ See you *Fuchur* PS: Thank you very much everybody It was a lot of fun!
  17. Good god that is mavelous! How did you do the fire? See you *Fuchur*
  18. I am really not sure if there was a Newton Plugin for that version. If you dont have it in your installation-folder it will very likely not work with that version. You would at least need v13 OR even (if I read Steffen's website correctly) v15 to run the file we are using in v17 now. If you need it, it is very likely that you will have to get a recent version of A:M. See you *Fuchur*
  19. Thanks for your kind comments Nancy and John . See you *Fuchur*
  20. Pros 64 bit: - Faster at least for computers with more than 3 GB of RAM. Cons 64 bit: - TSM and Quicktime will not work. > as Robert told you before: You can install both versions on one computer. I never use TSM or Quicktime and as that 64bit is the way to go for me. I'd say, since 32 bit computers are very uncommon today, A:M will sooner or later only be developed for 64 bit systems. But we will see... depends on how hard it is to compile it for 32bits. See ypu *Fuchur*
  21. Some may have guest it, other may not: The entry with the chameleon on it was mine. If you are interested I want to show of a little about that fellow because it was a quite interesting workflow. I used A:M to create the model (and rig), gave it some basic materials, used BakeSurface from A:M and exported as an OBJ with a high polycount (I think 256 or 1024 subdivisions, I am not sure...), brought the model with the UV-set to 3dCoat v4. There I painted all the little dots, shades and the displacementmaps (bump is done using a procentual material in A:M), saved the textures and back in A:M I rendered it out... it worked very well and I could paint over seams in the UV-set without any trouble. It worked better than I had expeceted. The image used close to any more advanced rendering technique I could imagine including: - SSS - DisplacementMaps - Bumps - procentual materials - a small amount of hair and sprite-particles, - Real AO (very slightly used) - quite large textures. (since I only got 3dCoat for private use, the texture-sizes are limited to 2048 x 2048 pixels...) Attached you can find some screens from A:M and 3dCoat showing the chameleon for the contest. Additional how it would have looked like as a splash screen and the final images again. I sure had fun creating it and even so I did not win anything for it, it still was a lot of fun! I'd love to see from others how they created their entries . If you have any time, please let us know about the great images which were created for this contest! See you *Fuchur*
  22. There is a quite big link to the FTP-server under "Support & Contact". See you *Fuchur*
  23. Not so fast, I do have V12 and V17. I find that V12 renders the old porcelain better than any version from 13 on. V12 makes nice Quicktime previews and with the disk and or a mounted ISO file is very portable. Its also the last dongle version for XP. The things I do like about 17 is the IK switch possibility and the MDD exporter which lets You use any render engine out there which are all faster than the native one. U may want to leave porceilan behind and use average normals and normalweight instead. In v17 u need to switch on and off render as line in the surfaceproperties to see them if i am not wrong.... See u *Fuchur*
  24. Very well done everyone . Well deserved! See u *Fuchur*
  25. This is an very unfair example: KillerBean 2 was created when? I think it surfaced somewhere inbetween 1999 and 2001 if I am not wrong. He remastered it later on, but it was still years before GPU rendering has been established at all or AO and stuff like that became useable. KillerBean Forever has been published in the year 2009 and was created in Maya... I am not sure if it has been rendered with Octane or not, but there are many years inbetween. Today A:M can archieve such an image quite easily too... but it will very likely take much longer to render since it is a CPU based calculation... That is not to say that I would not like this to be implemented or that I do not admire Cycles... it is only about being fair here. See you *Fuchur*
