GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.

-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

Hey Hashers, I added Volumetric Dust for Exercise 6 but it's rendering with very noticable banding. The Help file says to increase the Quality setting for the Volumetric effect to get rid of the banding, but unless my eyes fail me, I can't seem to see it. Can anyone verify this? I'm not sure if this is a bug or I'm just looking in the wrong place. Here's a picture of what I see for my Volumetric Dust properties. I'm running V13 f. thanks! -Jim

I was reading some tutorials about normal mapping, and all I could find is that normal maps were a quicker approximation of bump maps for use in realtime (game) rendering. So, in image/animation projects like those created in A:M, what is the difference between the two? Why use one over the other, and if one is outstandingly preferable, why have both?

I have the 2004 pro series training videos. Once I have clicked on the index file the video plays. There are no controls to stop, pause, play etc... I'm sure I'm doing something wierd can anyone help me find the controls. I have right clicked and went throught the quick time settings and could not find anything. HELP! Thanks to those who respond. I tried searching the ARM for one but it seems to be down, and I was wondering if anyone had a good dynamics tutorial for a beginner the one in the A:M guide boox really does not cover or explain anything it just shows you how to do that one poject which is good and can be used for diferent things but isn't there more that dynamics can be used for?

Hi there party peoples! I have been having a problem with Sweeper - actually, plugins in general. I have tried to download sweeper from Moscafilms.com, into my AM V12 software. I believe I followed all of the instructions: I unzipped the file, looked under the Tools>Options>Folders tab, and typed in the correct path to the Sweeper.hxt file. I rebooted the software, applied two groups (profile and path), selected the path, and... no plugins. None! I can't even open the plugins built into the software like grid. yet when I take out the "Sweeper" part of the file path under the folders tab, the preset plugins become available. Have I downloaded the wrong file for my so…

So I've been using layers in a toon render for quite some time, and I've been very happy with it. viola! [attachmentid=21446] However, when I do a line only render, I do not get my layer any more. Hi everyone, I've already bought an Intel based iMac and I've noticed that only selected versions of some programs work with this new Macs. I own a 2006 CD and I'd like to know wich exact version is the one I should install in my computer or, at least, the best version that suits in. Has anyone completed exersize 20 of the 2006 manual? I was able to complete it all the way to the end then it crashed when turning on draw for the hair. From then on it was impossible to reload the project file wihtout getting an error. I have submitted an error report to Hash but will also include the PRJ file here to see if anyone else can load it. im having some trouble with my smartskin whenever i rig the bones to move with smartskin one bone rotates properly, but the otherone rotates in reverse u see i was having some trouble with the knees of my character whenever i bent the knees, they would flatten. didn't seem to matter how i rigged the legs, or how i fought with the cp weights but i recently came across something, creating another bone specifically for helping to control the form/position of the knees it seemed to work, but when i tried to use smartskin on the knee bones, the first knee smartskinned always bends properly the second knee bends backwards any ideas? maybe i c…

When I try to work with sound, AM 10.5 crashes every time. I have made a sound file (wav) and have put this file in the sound library. When I, according exercice 7 "Can you say that", select the dope sheet, type the sound text in the box and klick OK, the dictionary does his work properly and all boxes are grey. As soon as I drag the frame marker in the timeline window, AM crashes directly or after some dragging. WHAT MAY BE THE CAUSE ?

Greetings; I hope someone here can give me some advice. I am considering purchasing animation master. I am a professional clown and magician, so it would be fun for me to learn a new skill that will help me express my creative side, but I am primarilly considering buying it for my teenage kids. No matter which blending mode I choose, I don't see anything happen between actions. I just get a hard cut from one to the other. I tried overlapping the actions and then I had no actions at all. I had to delete all actions and start over. To me blending means to transition from action to the other, that probably not correct. None the less, I don't see any transition from one action to the other even when "Transistion to next action" is selected. Any insights?

I'm creating a "dance" animation. My action is the character "hopping" forward (puts his hands in front, pulls them back at the same time he jumps forward.) I created this action. When I'm in my choreography, I drop the action into the character, then create a path for him to follow. What I want is for him to continually perform that action while moving on this path. Do I have to do multiple paths, or somehow "cycle" that action? He performs the action once, then stops. thanks. Ok. Nevermind. It's working now. I now have to "extend" the action so it looks like he is stopping after one "thrust" forward with is arms before the next action.

Hi - I cannot figure out why my char forearm is raised when I bring her in an action and turn the "Ik Arms Setup" to "on". I just put the skeleton rig in this character for a second time since I screwed the first try up pretty bad. Has anyone run into this problem? Thanks - Eric

I have 10 chapters i am planning to upload (look at This Thread for more info) in the future one at a time and will be each chapter will be posted ASAP after it's completion. I was wondering whats the filesize and usual limit is allowed to upload the chapters on hash.com? I'm planning 10 minute chapters or so. Two part chapters only stress confustion and mess.

I'm making a palm tree....one of the tutorials on my DVD, anyway, I got the cookie cut to work, but there is a faint outline of the square tar. file. Also, after making the tar with the alpha channel in photoshop, the color is gone. I know I must be missing something here.

Hello, I have an idea that would be cool if the people who run the forum could do it. It came to me because I had a newbie question about modeling and being so use to working inthe TWO section of the forum, I'm use to going directly to the subject matter I need help with (I.E TWO Animating if I need animation help, TWO Rigging if I have rigging questions, TWO Modeling, etc) and I noticed there are no sub-topics in the newbie area. My idea is to set up the newbie topic with the same format as in the TWO movie topics. im having some trouble with my model i was studying the dynamic constraints when it occured to me perhaps i can use this for a skirt when i tried using dynamic constraints with the skirt, the skirt kind of ... uh ... i thought that it might have something to do with the object collision settings but even tweeking those didnt seem to have much of an effect i could just turn off object collision, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of using dynamic constraints to get the skirt to move around the legs (i could use the cloth modifier which works fine on its own but i find that when it comes into contact with another piece of cl…

Yearning to learn, I decided it was time to do the Volumetrics tutorial. Images 1 & 2 show my attempt to animate the Fall Off of the Dust per the tutorial. Before setting the fall off, (image 1), right-clicking the Fall Off property shows that the "Use Cache" is set. After changing the fall off to 0 for frame 1, another look at the Fall Off properties shows that the "Constant" is set. Also, under the Drivers/Action Objects/Dust Action Object property, a Fall Off property has been added showing a lock. That was the experience using AM 14.0a. When replicated using AM 13.0l, after setting the frame 1 fall off to 0, the Fall Off property shows "Time Based" …

I've created an action from a BVH motion capture file and tailored it to work well with the Gala female model from the A:M library. The animation looks fine in the action window and also looks right if I apply it to the Gala model in the Choreography on frame 0. If however I move the action to start on frame 100 in the choreography it no longer works correctly. The model slides all over the place and all of the translations and rotations seem wrong. The further the action is away from frame 0 in the choreography the worse the effect is. Hello, I know this have been covered before, but I'm not getting it. I followed the tutorial several times, but it does not work for me. I made a simple model. I followed the steps for bounding the bones. But when I apply an action to it, it freaks out! Does v14 resolve any of this? I know I must be missing something, but I have no idea what. Any help would be great! **The biggest problem is the legs, the knees bend backwards. I didn't rotate any bones, so I don't know how that could happen.
