No matter how they build those things, someone always figures out a way:

 

 

 

 

It looks kind of like a vehicle to me. When you finish putting the three orbs together you start to model the underside which looks like a spherical wheel base. I'm thinking something like this:

I don't know either, but I am definitely going to consider adding Crocs to the next space car I create. That was pretty dang funny Matt.
