MasterFunk Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I have decided to make a short movie in order to better my skills as an animator, modeler and texturer. I centers around a ninja that has to complete an assassination. Right now I am working on the set. So far I have finished the bed and the table. Here they are. I look forward to the completion of this project and the criticism to help me make it better. Thanks in advance! MasterFunk Quote
HomeSlice Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Great models so far. Good luck on your project. Quote
StormedFX Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Your models look great. I just have couple of questions. Where will the assassination take place? Will this be like old time ninja theme? CHEERS! Quote
MasterFunk Posted September 27, 2008 Author Posted September 27, 2008 Your models look great. I just have couple of questions. Where will the assassination take place? Will this be like old time ninja theme? CHEERS! It will take place in the enemy compound. I don't really know what you mean by 'old time ninja theme.' Could you explain? Quote
Gerry Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 HI- This is a great start, though the bed (and bedposts) look a little clunky. The knobs look large and out of proportion, and I'm wondering why the bed is on a solid platform instead of legs. The table looks great though! Quote

The bed was originally going to be a futon type thing to make it look more japanese but it evolved a little while I was making it. Here is another prop. Quote
jzawacki Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 For some reason, I see the table walking around and talking like in a Disney movie. Must be the way the legs are bent or something.. Looks nice. Quote
AMkyle Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Hey i was wondering, for your latest prop, what exactly is it, i cant see too much what it is, Edit: Oh nevermind, thats a pretty sweet looking head, japanese looking like too, SWEET Quote
KnightHammer Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 The neck looks really square to me... i don't have a pic of it but in the movie "300" when the head wash chopped off it stayed an oval shape also the spine is closer to the back of the neck Quote
MasterFunk Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 The neck looks really square to me... i don't have a pic of it but in the movie "300" when the head wash chopped off it stayed an oval shape also the spine is closer to the back of the neck I just copied and pasted the head from my other model and where I copied it the shoulders were starting. I did round it out now though. Thanks for the criticism. I am rendering an AO image of the head now so I will post it when it is done. I also rounded out the knobs on the bed posts. Here is a pic, although the closer ones look a bit flat still. MasterFunk Quote
StormedFX Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 It will take place in the enemy compound. I don't really know what you mean by 'old time ninja theme.' Could you explain? What I meant to say is that what your scene and the surrounding will look like. Will it look like those old time Japanese movies? CHEERS! Quote

The scene will be a more traditional japanese setting but the over all mood will be a little dark. So yes and no Quote
MasterFunk Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 I fixed the neck. There are two pictures attatched. one is a final render with a kleig light and the oter is AO. The camera is in the exact same spot in both pics. However in the AO one the hair doesnt show. Can Ao not work with hair? Thanks, MasterFunk Quote
MasterFunk Posted September 30, 2008 Author Posted September 30, 2008 Finished the modeling for the exterior of the barracks. Still need to do the interior and texturing. Quote
KnightHammer Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Love the head now...i still cant do anything looking that good that's organic Quote
Gerry Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Head is looking good but I don't think the neck would flare out like that. Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 Head is looking good but I don't think the neck would flare out like that. I just cut and paste so that is how it was connected. I am going to leave it as it is. I will only been seen briefly anyway. I finished the barracks, the bag of coins, and the map. Quote
Kamikaze Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Nice going here, look forward to more..., I enjoy the process of starting a project to improve ones modeling and or animating skills... Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 5, 2008 Author Posted October 5, 2008 For some reason a map works as a color map but not a bump map. Here are the images, what's the problem? Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 13, 2008 Author Posted October 13, 2008 I finished the pond with water. pond.mov Quote
jakerupert Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Is this going to be some kind of hot fountain? Quote
TheSpleen Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 looks great! Gonna have blood spurting out the neck? LOL Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 14, 2008 Author Posted October 14, 2008 Is this going to be some kind of hot fountain? No but I figure it is less of a hassle to use fluids than make a material. Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Ok, fluids take way to long to render so I just made a transparent patch with roughness on it to simulate water. I finished the layout of the enemy compound and rendered out a quick mov. layoutpan.mov Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 25, 2008 Author Posted October 25, 2008 Started the old master's face. here are some pics. It's pretty basic right now but as I shape it I will put some wrinkles in. Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 I added ears, eyes, and started a neck, as well as decaling the face. Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 I worked on his body some. He is wearing a robe and I intend to make the belt more like a rope tied at the end. His head seems a little big for his body. Any comments or crits are welcome. Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 Ditched the hair and put the hood up. Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 Rigged him except for the hands and smartskin. Here is a shot from the scene he is in. No work on lighting yet. Quote
TheSpleen Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 looks good. Keep tweaking him. I would like to see your final film. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 28, 2008 Hash Fellow Posted October 28, 2008 Good looking character! (from what I can see. It's a bit dark) Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 Thanks! I have run into a problem. After I installed the finger bones I tried the hands clench pose sliders and it turned out really bad. There were fingers in every possible direction, not resembling anything like a fist. This didn't bother me too much and I just made new poses. The poses looked great when I created them but when I tried them in an action the first joints all locked. Why did this happen? I attatched the model file. If anyone has any idea what the problem is it would be very helpful to me. Thanks, MasterFunk Mastertest.mdl Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 29, 2008 Hash Fellow Posted October 29, 2008 I looked at it. In your Setup Relationships>Basic Setup Relationships folder there are a bunch of constraints on the finger bones. Those are overriding the pose keys you put on the first finger bones I presume those are left over from the original finger controlling scheme that used one bone (made visible with "Show Fingers")to control the three bones of a finger. You're not really supposed to pose the individual finger bones directly. You woudl use the one bone control for each finger to shape the fingers in your clench poses. However, something else has been omitted that is keeping that one control bone from curling the last two bones like it supposed to when it is rotated. I'm not an expert onthe AM2001 rig so i'm not sure what's been left out. You could delete those poses in the Basic Setup Relationships folder if you prefer just doing all three bones individually. You'll probably have to redo you clench poses. BTW, I'd recommend using TSM2 instead of AM2001. It's easier to install and somewhat more foolproof Quote
MasterFunk Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 I have a mac and I thought TSM2 didn't work for macs. I will take another look at the model. Thanks for the help! Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 29, 2008 Hash Fellow Posted October 29, 2008 I have a mac and I thought TSM2 didn't work for macs. no, it wont' work on the current OS. Guess you'll have to figure out what went wrong on AM2001 Quote
MasterFunk Posted November 1, 2008 Author Posted November 1, 2008 I fixed it. I placed the finger bones like real fingers when they are not supposed to go there. I set all the constraints back and now it works perfectly. Thanks Robcat. I changed the lighting a little bit and made the hands a little bit more natural. Quote
MasterFunk Posted November 2, 2008 Author Posted November 2, 2008 The last prop is finished! Here is the house. Quote
MasterFunk Posted November 2, 2008 Author Posted November 2, 2008 Here is a pic from the first scene I am working on. The shadows are a bit sharp though. How can I soften them? Quote
MasterFunk Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 Here is the second scene. Any crits would be appreciated. ninjashort.mov Quote
thefreshestever Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 looking good so far... i think the jumps are too fast, i would also clarify the anticipation before the jumps and the landing by exaggerating the poses and adding a few more frames.... even a ninja has to bring his body back in balance after such big jumps. view some footage on youtube or film yourself doing jumps and you´ll notice that there are some more poses to add in between... the walk before the first jump looks a bit too stompy for a ninja, i guess ninjas try to walk as quiet as possible... Quote
MasterFunk Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 Thanks for the crits. I changed the angle of the second shot and worked on the jumps a little. It still needs some refining. Scene_2.mov Quote
MJL Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I've been following you project through out. It's looking really good. I know that ninja's mystic makes them appear to defy the laws of physics, but during the jumps it feels like your guy does not have mass or inertia. Freshest's crits are on the money. Also, while in the air the body line could shift from \ from the takeoff to / for the landing. Good work. Myron Quote
MasterFunk Posted November 8, 2008 Author Posted November 8, 2008 Rendered out the first shot of Scene one. Crits welcome as always. I did work on the last shot but I still need to render it. Scene1shot1.mov Quote
