DarkLimit Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Hi Hashers here is a project I will be working on over the next yr or more.. I will be posting updates as much as I can.. here are the concept models am working on... for a short animation. More to come...... Quote
JohnArtbox Posted October 21, 2003 Posted October 21, 2003 Nice Design DarkLimit, Is the top one the skeleton for the bottom fish? I really like the evil cartoony feel. I wouldn't be so happy to live on an island if I had to deal with these fish on a daily basis. Quote
DarkLimit Posted October 21, 2003 Author Posted October 21, 2003 JohnArtbox - thanks alot, the fish on top is a different fish. Thats his own design... thanks for viewing. Quote
Mike Lium Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 Ummm Robert what are your dreams like ? I know someone you can talk to Quote
DarkLimit Posted October 23, 2003 Author Posted October 23, 2003 LOL mike my dreams are tame, but sometimes I get very unstable Quote

jfirestine Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 Wow! Very nice! Its like "The Nightmare Before Christmas" meets "Finding Nemo." Very interesting design!!! Quote
Mike Lium Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 Its like "The Nightmare Before Christmas" meets "Finding Nemo." you pegged it That would be a darn good short Quote

Mike Lium Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 Robert I really like the one-eyed fish they look very omninous. One Word [ psychoanalysis ] Quote
DarkLimit Posted October 27, 2003 Author Posted October 27, 2003 LOL mike are you calling me or my fish a psychoanalysis ? Quote
wombat359 Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 Some superb designs here, very atmospheric. Have you tried them with pectoral fins? It may add a little more menace. Quote
DarkLimit Posted October 27, 2003 Author Posted October 27, 2003 thanks for the comment wombat359, I have not tried them with pectoral fins but it sounds good I will give it a shot..... thanks agsin. Quote
Mike Lium Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 are you calling me or my fish a psychoanalysis ? neither Im think you should seek some Just kidding Quote
DarkLimit Posted October 27, 2003 Author Posted October 27, 2003 LOL mike I wonder about myself also sometimes I updated my fish, this kind of fish has no teeth he will carry his egg in his mouth. I will have more info on him in a few days. Quote
Mike Lium Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 DAMN ! Those look very cool and also a little frighenting. So what do you have in mind for their textures ? Quote
DarkLimit Posted October 28, 2003 Author Posted October 28, 2003 Thanks mike..... am not going to use scales. Am looking into using TOONNATION's plugins to create the fish textures...... Kinda like an alien look but it will be kept very simple..... I will have more on the texturing as I develop some [ Material ]concepts. Quote
wombat359 Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 A ridiculously large amount of fish info is available from http://www.fishbase.org/search.cfm You could get lost for days trying to find Nemo in this lot. You will be able to get hundreds of photographs to use for decaling your designs. Some of the deep water fish look to match the mood you have captured with your modelling. Keep posting your updates, they are a real inspiration. Quote
DarkLimit Posted October 28, 2003 Author Posted October 28, 2003 WOW thank you SO much for that link wombat359; You guys have been so surpportive and encouraging thanks to all for your comments and nelp so far....... Quote
jon Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 i'm not sure why, but a creepy fish carrying an egg seems much more evil than a creepy fish with teeth. is this really a psychology test? <_> -jon Quote
DarkLimit Posted October 29, 2003 Author Posted October 29, 2003 I agree jon I think the fish with the egg is more creepy... But no this is not a psychology test Quote
Iham Wrong Posted October 29, 2003 Posted October 29, 2003 Check this out for weird fish. Most have headlights and other flashy appendages. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/abyss/life/bestiary.html Quote
DarkLimit Posted October 29, 2003 Author Posted October 29, 2003 This is awsome thanks alot Iham Wrong ....... I see designs of fishes I like already am off to the drawing board ....... Quote
DarkLimit Posted October 30, 2003 Author Posted October 30, 2003 update............. this is so much fun Quote
Zaryin Posted October 30, 2003 Posted October 30, 2003 Damn, these characters are really coming along. The only problem I have is with the lines leading away from the eyes. I would try to get them smoother. Unless that's the way you wanted it . Quote
DarkLimit Posted October 30, 2003 Author Posted October 30, 2003 Zaryin - Thanks I will tweak his head.... it's tricky keeping the mesh smoothed . Quote
DarkLimit Posted November 6, 2003 Author Posted November 6, 2003 Hi joe, Here are some Quick W/ Wire renders as you requested.... Quote
DarkLimit Posted November 18, 2003 Author Posted November 18, 2003 Here is an update on my fish, I just tweaked his expression tell me what you think.. Quote
Ross Smith Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 You tweaked it around the corners of the lips, right? He (she -- it?) looks a bit more expressive, like s/he/it's about to say something. Sort of lends a more articulated identity to the creature instead of something blindly animal. Totally hinges on what you're going for. I'm really looking forward to the results, DarkLimit. I've been astounded by your talent in your other work. Quote
DarkLimit Posted November 19, 2003 Author Posted November 19, 2003 Thanks so much Ross Smith - modeling these fishes so they animate well is a task but you guys are really helping me... Am glad you like my work... Quote
Phil Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 I glad im not a fisherman With fish like these, there looking real good. can't to see them animated Quote
DarkLimit Posted November 20, 2003 Author Posted November 20, 2003 hehe I don't think a hook could capture this type of fish now I have to attach the fins on his back to his body, am almost finish modeling him.. I will soon do a test animation of him chasing something.. Thanks for your feedback.......... Quote
DarkLimit Posted November 21, 2003 Author Posted November 21, 2003 My plan is to use TOONNATION plugins to texture my fish, it's very tricky to get it looking right, but here is what I have so far....... I like this texture very much!!!! Quote
Grubber Posted December 5, 2003 Posted December 5, 2003 This is amazing!!! The eye and skin looks very good! Quote
modernhorse Posted December 5, 2003 Posted December 5, 2003 Beautiful work DarkLimit. I've been watching these for a while now and they just get better and more threatening each render. Question - are the teeth part of the fish mesh or are they seperate ... did you model them and just fit them into the mesh? Keep ON!! Quote
DarkLimit Posted December 5, 2003 Author Posted December 5, 2003 Thanks alot guys........ modernhorse - the teeth are modeled seperate for the rest of the mesh. Quote
DarkLimit Posted December 24, 2003 Author Posted December 24, 2003 Hi guys, I am in process of Re-modeling my fish, the cyclops look was not working out. it's not flexiable enough to give me the emotions that my animation needs... So I added both eyes.... I will update him as I progress. Quote
Phil Posted December 24, 2003 Posted December 24, 2003 The eyes look ok, could you post a render with the textures. the pink tint on the body looks odd Quote
DarkLimit Posted December 24, 2003 Author Posted December 24, 2003 Thanks...... The pink tint is just a red light under him; I will texture him in a few days.... right now am focusing on finishing modeling him.. Quote
CRToonMike Posted December 25, 2003 Posted December 25, 2003 The two eye'd model does work better in conveying emotions and such, especially in a fish where you don't have as much body language, so to speak, to work with to convey emotions. Really am enjoying looking at them. Can't wait for the textured versions. mike r. Quote
Zaryin Posted December 25, 2003 Posted December 25, 2003 I also like the two eyed version better. Quote
littleandy Posted December 27, 2003 Posted December 27, 2003 yeah, two eyes work a lot better. I'm looking forward to seeing this animated! -Andrew Quote
