There are pretty much no constraints that will keep things automatically from passing through each other. For example, if you watch Monsters, Inc. very closely, there is one scene where Mike is at the counter talking with Roz, and his head goes through the edge of the counter. Only really noticeable if you are going through frame-by-frame. Even the big guys have to be careful.

decided to try amplitude to do auto lip sync

Oops, double post. -
decided to try amplitude to do auto lip sync
mouseman replied to johnl3d's topic in Tinkering Gnome's Workshop
Again, it's only been the last couple days or so. Even the smaller -
How is that even possible? I think that specifically/technically the path of its center of gravity (not necessarily any one body part) is a parabola, but other than that, a big YES! to everything.

Weirdly enough, each time I try to view one of JohnL3D's videos in the last few days, they either take forever to download or fail to download. Is anyone else experiencing that? If so, might it have anything to do with the recent system problems Jason's been dealing with? -
Hey I hope so... I can't really speak to that as I am not really familiar at all with David's rigging work... which appears to be very capable! If I'm right at all that that spline layout would result in less CP weighting work, that should be true for using that spline layout with almost any rig, not just David's Squetch Rig.
-
Wow, very dramatic! Nice looking effect.
-
I get the feeling that there would be much less work with CP weighting with David's splining method.

Let us know whatever help you need, there's surely people here that can help for whatever Animation topic you might have trouble with! You're welcome to just hang out, too.

Be neat to try that with water, in a glass, with all of the right IORs (Index of Refractions).

We are still animating and not rendering. We hope to be 80% done with blocking animation by Thursday, and have some more polished animation in progress. We obviously have not started doing any rendering.
-
It looks pretty good. I can't tell whether it's because of the A:M motion blur or the quicktime encoding or a bit of both.

I added a link to it to the Hash A:M Wiki page for A:M History.

The Passing of a Titan (Paul Forwood)
mouseman replied to Paul Forwood's topic in General Announcements
What can I say that the others have not already said. Of late, I am very thankful for his work on the set for the Rear Window project. He got the ball rolling for us all. His Paul's Playground WIP post was legendary, and I always loved seeing his updates. -
Shall we pin this topic?
-
Or if you had a bank of however many cameras arranged in a circle around the person that would all take a photo at the same time.

Oh, yeah, Bobby, that's looking really good! The larger teeth + gums works really well, and the improved poses make the animation look more natural. You haven't said how far you were planning on taking this, but if you're still going on this particular animation, here's one suggestion for plussing ("improving") it. In this sound clip, when a phrase starts especially with a long note, sometimes his mouth opens very slowly; it would be better it opened a little quicker to match him getting the note started and into a moving hold (slight movement so the character doesn't look "dead" or robotic). Overall ... way to go!

I like the newer proportions much better, even if they are not true to the original reference. Lookin' good!

I agree with the head being a bit too small, but other than that, it looks top notch! Keep at it!

A:M Community Chat, Video Tutorials and other Resources
mouseman replied to Rodney's topic in Animation:Master
If you can get it to work in v17, then a workaround for copying the settings from v17 to v16 might be: WARNING: ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT IN DEALING WITH THE REGISTRY AND UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING ON IN EVERY STEP. INCORRECTLY MODIFYING THE REGISTRY CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH THE OPERATING SYSTEM. 1. Register for the community in v17. 2. Open regedit, go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hash, Inc.\Animation Master V17.0\Community 3. Right-Click on "Community" in the tree and choose "Export". Save the registry file for the Community in a convenient place, with a good name such as "AMCommunity.reg". 4. Edit the file, and change all occurrances of "v17" to "v16". Save it. 5. Double-click on the "AMCommunity.reg" file. It will warn you that you could be destroying the universe. Tell it to go ahead. 6. Open up A:M v16, and hopefully the community will work. This is what I've done to go from v14 to v15 and from v15 to v16, because I have forgotten my community password. I have not tried it yet with v17. -
I agree with Robcat here about the chin. I speak zero Thai, so this might not be of much help, but here's one more tweak ... each time he opens his mouth, his bottom lip goes down, but his upper lip never goes up; it normally goes up a little bit for most mouth poses. Other than that, it seems to be a great song and a pretty good character design. I can't wait to see a full render.

A very neat effect!

Conserning The Motion Of Bones With Dynamic Constraints
mouseman replied to markw's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
My guess here is that A:M is using: [clock-time of rendering of the current frame] - [clock-time of rendering of the previous frame] for the time difference when scrubbing, instead of [animation time of the current frame] - [animation time of the previous frame] (e.g. 36:00 - 35:23, or 1/24th of a second). The problem is very noticeable when using the vehicle rig that mtpeak posted a while back. -
With all the promptness one would regularly attribute to Canada Post, my copy arrived today! I watched it twice and enjoyed it immensely! I was slightly surprised the Paunk! Show lead-in was not on it. I liked the extras, especially seeing the DVD version of the trailer for The Wannabe Pirates comic, and going through the Stalled Trek history was neat, too.

Things on our end are looking good and progressing, although we're a bit behind. We were slowed down by learning curves on rigging and cloth (thanks to Mark and everyone else for their help!), but those issues are pretty well settled now. I think we're probably going to need a couple of weeks on top of the deadline. Can we still fit into the assembly process timeline?
