  1. Hey Everybody! Thanks for all of your comments Jay, Riste, Paul, Robert, Ken, Mark, Mike, Caleb, Dan, David, Jeff *gasps for air*, T-Dogg, John, Darkwing, Joakim, Mack and Will! This was quite a bit more feedback than I was expecting. Well, if I'm going to finish this model I better do it in the next couple of weeks....thanks for the inspiration Any suggestions for backgrounds? Or where I'm going to find the time to do this? Thanks again, next time I need an ego-boost I know where to go Lee
  2. Hey All, This was a project that I was going to enter into the Mechanical Image Contest (long gone) but was unable to complete on time. Well, I've now decided to drop the project because I don't have enough time to complete it. However, I thought that someone should see it, so here it is: I was going for tons of detail (as is, the model is at 40,000) patches. I wanted wires and panels everywhere, and I was hoping to get front page on CGTalk with it. The design was by Activision's Jamie Egerton and I was given permission by Egerton to model it (he was extremely supportive). Here's the AWESOME design And here's an AO rendering of the mesh where I stopped at: Here's an AO back of the leg detail: And here's a trashy render of the chest detail: Here's a more clear view of just the chest: An early Materials test: And here is what the final image was going to look like, lighting and materials-wise (this is a proxy model, and there are many missing 5-point patches): Well, hope you enjoy this much of him, he was fun to make, I wish I had time to finish! Lee
  3. Your modeling skills are increasing like crazy Mark! I'm way impressed with this model! Going from 2D to 3D is tough but you're doing all of the right things: those nice sharp folds where the lines are and the smooth surfaces everywhere else! You should do a tutorial sometime! Lee
  4. That looks awesome Gary! There's an interesting loop ring inbetween the eyes going towards the mouth...looks like you're making it work for you though! I love it! Lee
  5. Thanks Mark, that was it! There's no good excuse, except that I had used 2001 before and wanted to go through this quickly. Hey Mark, thanks...maybe I'll try it next time Here's the finished Fett--to be appearing on an ExtrasDVD near you! Lee
  6. Thanks Dhar! That's a start... Back in the days before the 2001 setup you'd rig a hand like this: But now, which bones do I assign to which joints? Do I assign the bones circled in red and then move the bone circled in blue? I'm just not sure which bones to assign. Auto assign wouldn't be a good idea because I have the rest of the model rigged so far: Thanks for the help! Lee
  7. Hey Hash-folk! Well, I know I should be using the Squetch rig, but I just wanted to get this done (rigging is by far my LEAST favorite part of the process). Okay, so I'm ready to rig the hands...but I'm not sure where to start! Okay, obviously I need to line the fingers up first...but then what? What bones to I assign where? And once I get them assigned how to I animate them? I've tried a few things but I'm stumped... Here are some pictures: Oh yes, and I'll be donating the model as soon as I'm done Lee
  8. Wow! That's looking awesome Mark! I love the level of detail that you're putting into this! Are you going to be using a matte painting in the background? I think that would add a lot. Maybe even just some stylized clouds... Keep it up, this is so cool! Lee
  9. I agree! Great work Gary! I almost think the new skin tone might be a little too red, maybe it could be something between the two. I love the hairstyle! The proportions look okay to me, but I'd say you're the expert at that Lee
  10. That looks great Steve! What superhero will he turn into? I wouldn't mind seeing a little more definition in the abs...but it looks really good so far! Lee
  11. My gosh Mark! That looks awesome! I'm shocked when I see stuff this cool come out of A:M. Personally, I like the "too perfect" look for this. The looks your coming up with are great. McGruff looks soooo good, if Deforest were around, I'm pretty sure that he'd think he was looking into a mirror (well, maybe a funhouse mirror ) Hey now, what kind of thanks is that?! lol...last time I help you Keep if up, and I might consider speaking to you again Lee
  12. That looks great Stian! It's an inspiration to all of us! Keep it up! Lee
  13. Thanks Ken! That sounds like a good plan to me Matt! Convincing Kevin sounds like another story. I do agree that if this is the hero of the story that he can't seem too inhuman. The other one still looks cooler to me, but it's not my model... So--here's a Visor at 75% transparency render: Lee
  14. Please Kevin, stop gushing about it, you're embarrassing me [sarcasm]. Nope, I didn't render the three-angle version, maybe that will happen later. I think it's really funny that you say this because as soon as I turned the transparency down (down, not off), I thought: "That's the first thing Kevin will say about this". Well, at least it wasn't the first thing . Oh, and to answer the question: because I liked it better that way. Lee
  15. Thanks Mark, if you liked the goggles, you'll love this! Ken, diddo--good bye Zombie eyes! Kevin just sent me this awesome helmet and so I textured it and rerendered it...also I added some new post stuff, I like this better. Lee
  16. Oh no! Will, you can't enter! The rest of us need a chance I was hoping that all of your threatenings to enter were just jokes to keep us on our toes! The character already looks great. Is this a resculpt of the old one? What kind of environment are planning on putting him in? I'm looking forward to watching your progress Lee
  17. These characters are really cool Caleb! It's a creative style! Maybe for the first try you could focus on just one bean and tell his story. I think animation for these guys would be hilarious, you could make them really goofy. Or, they could take themselves too seriously and that might be even better! Good luck! Lee
  18. Yes, that would be "safe than sorry". But you're excused if English isn't your first language. Carry on. lol...maybe that's what he meant. You're safe until you're caught and then you're sorry I'm excited to get started, I also just started a model that could benefit from this! Lee
  19. Thanks Daniel, I try Thanks also Darkwing! And Paul...that's the second word made up today! Man, I'm lucky! Lee
  20. Great work Jake! And congrats on your first model! I'm excited to see the knight that goes with it Lee
  21. That's a great start! I can see it already! You're bad luck is that I'm a Star Wars fan so I see some things that could be improved! The split in the middle could go further back, and there's some wrinkles around the area that possibly shouldn't be there Also...I'm interested to see how you model in the difference between the red center and white outer parts... Good job--keep it up! Lee
  22. Hmm...Colin are you trying to tell me something? Hey....you know....I think that could work.... EXCEPT DISQUALIFIED...dang However, here is the original Illustration that I lit for Kevin with the new textures and some postwork in PS: Lee
  23. Thanks Caleb, Geoff and Candice! I was a little surprised to see this thread come back! Hey, didn't Matt post something in page 2 with a picture? Weird... A new word? For liddo-ol-me?! Shewt...thanks Colin! Do I have your permission to use that word? Hopefully Kevin will model a helmet for this guy someday and we can come up with a nice illustration for him.... Lee
  24. This does sound like a great idea Mark! I'm sure you wouldn't mind if we used our own models to follow along with you right? Lee
  25. That looks awesome Candice! I hope one of those stills was a wireframe, there appears to be a good amount of detail in the first pic Is there a story behind this character? Great work! I'm impressed! Lee
