I'm thinking it is real geometry per frame. They show how they do it in the video... they Import a sequence of OBJ's the same way as if they were importing a sequence of jpegs or targas.

I was just watching a tutorial on Trapcode Form 2 for Adobe After Effects... it now lets you apply it's effect to an obj, and an obj sequence. Cool! Any ideas how I can get A:M an animated OBJ sequence out of A:M? Is this a possible feature request? Here's the tutorial: http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/videos/get...arted/item/258/

Render: The adidas logo jumps because I am only using half the frames... if I had used all 300 it would'nt jump- but the filesize would be twice as big. How do I get the gif to play in the body and not in a separate window?

Hey - I took a chance to do a job today with the new 'Snap To Surface' tool, and it saved the day! Don't know how I woulda done this without it. Shawn Rogers asked if I could model this 'NEWFANGLED' soccer ball(ref photo) for him... at first I though- NO WAY, but then figured the S2S tool may help in the process and it could be a good test for it. Plus I love the challenge, the ball looks SO simple, yet it is really QUITE a modeling dilemma. 1st- I lathed a really dense sphere and exported it as an OBJ. Then imported it into the chor as a prop... this was to be the surface for me to draw on, activating the S2S function. A couple false starts, a couple rounds of 'make it bigger-make it smaller' and I had a good workable base. The tool and the 'snap group to surface' option worked really well, a couple of times it would snap to the backside surface- but the undo got me back. Whats REALLY nice is when you have the tool ON, you can slide CPs around and they adhere perfectly to the surface. I will post a 360o render when it finishes. The Snap To Surface tool will be available in Version 17.

Welcome back to A:M and the A:M Forum! I remember seeing the ads for Will Vinton's Playmation... Will was of course very famous at that time for his 'California Raisins, Heard it thru the Grapevine' claymation TV spots which dominated the airwaves.... and I think they used one of the characters in the print ads I would see in Animation Magazine and all the trade mags of that day... mmm, good times... Martin has excused himself from participating from the forum, but there are plenty of us here to help you along! -
That is one serious mustacchio! and the body has a real 'yellow submarine' look to it... GREAT STUFF!

SHOULD old acquaintances be forgot, and never brought to mind? Nay! Looks like Dusan built himself a giant PERK-HEAD! Too cool! May 2012 see a better economy, fewer funerals, more splineing! For old lang-sein!

So the render only took 23 seconds, but it was too fast to make any sense? Can we see the image? 23 seconds is fabulous!

I hope this works for you, it would be AMAZING! However, I think I remember Martin talking about this, and how 3D image processing cannot be split-up that way. We'll see though! I look forward to your number(s)!

I'll let you know, I am doing it TWICE tomorrow. In the past, it has always been quite immediate. Snags can arise though... dangerous when you are in the middle of several jobs and people are waiting for your stuff. -
I read a lot of ideas for animated films and ask... can this film be made on regular video with real people and scenarios? A lot of the time, the answer is... SURE! Then I wonder... why even bother going to all the trouble of animating it? If it's just to control the visuals and make a cool looking film, then great- knock yourself out. I'd like to see people relying on animation as less of an 'alternative' and more of the 'vehicle' or instigous for even making a film at all... I think we've all adopted it as a crutch of sorts. I hate to take this position... but I look at the cartoons made in the 'heyday; of animation... the Tex Avery, Popeyes, Warner Brothers, and the Richard Williams 'Baby Herman' stuff from Roger Rabbit, and I think that the technology has leapt forward in unforeseen dimensions - but the art of animated cartooning has effectively 'stalemated'. SURE, there are the Family Guys and Simpsons- and I LOVE that stuff... but what if someone rose the bar another notch....?

Yeah, to reiterate Fuchur, the tool is simply called Snap-to-Surface- probably a wise move by our Yoda. WE are the ones who have monickered it as Retopology... we should probably thus start referring to it in it's proper context. OR, how about this... wait....... wait for it........... S2S !!!

The app has come a LONG way since 2000, when I bought it. That was V8, and I am currently helping to test V17. It is a real joy to work with this program, and I do it every day- competing with and amazing my Maya colleagues. The difference in RENDER time and quality just between V 15 and 17 is remarkable. Let us know if we can offer any more help.

Hey guys... revisiting this old thread with a Q.... I am running A:M V15 on a Mac here at the new gig (until my PC comes in.) It is not bad. Wondering, how do I open a 2nd instance of A:M on this OSX?
