Admin Rodney Posted February 3, 2008 Author Admin Posted February 3, 2008 Matthew, Its great to have you with us. I thought it would be funny if KeeKat was looking up at a wheelbarrow falling just in front of him, but I couldn't get the motion blur to work (at all!) That might be something that is best shown in an animation. You'd probably have to add some other things to carry the whole idea over in a still image. Keekat's pose might have to be more one of apprehension than anything. Quote
opifex Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Dear Rodney: Thank you, glad to be here! I appreciate your looking over my image and the kind suggestions! Actually the image is a still from a three-and-a-half second animation (I included the project file for your perusal,) as I thought that perhaps the scene had to be animated to get the motion blur to work, however whatever percentage I set it for had no effect. I did fool around with KeeKat's pose sliders but couldn't find any facial mouth/eye combinations that gave the expression I was looking for. I could have gone in and altered the geometry directly but thought that was a bit too far ahead of this particular tutorial. -Matthew Quote

NitsBits Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Name: Alex Maday Exercise Completed: Exercise 1 Date Completed: 4/1/2008 (I really did complete it; not kidding) Instructor: Rodney and community Remarks/Suggestions for Improvement: Great exercise, A:M is different than Lightwave, in the regard that, posing with sliders (modifying the model), needs no explicit 'Make Keyframe' command. It seems that A:M creates keys automatically. Also, renders don't need to be created from a camera viewpoint - I did mine from the 'Birds Eye View.' And, lastly, I scaled KeeKat up, instead of dollying the camera closer. Now that I'm looking at the image, I'm not certain that the up-scale was rendered? I'll play with the scale tool and try another render. Quote

Caroline Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Great start, Brad. We're looking forward to seeing more! File size note - when rendering, if you change your .mov compression settings to Sorenson Video 3, then the size should be a lot smaller. Quote

Someone had mentioned that before and I never found it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Quote
Caroline Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 1. Click the render to file button as normal 2. If you have the basic settings (ie with pictures), tick the Advanced box. 3. Change Format to Quicktime Movie 4. Open the Format property triangle and click Set 5. In the Compression type dropdown find Sorenson Video 3. Some people on Vista have said they don't have that option, so try Mpeg-4 Video or H.264. (I believe only Quicktime 7 plays H.264, and there are a few people here that still use QT 6.) 6. Change the quality to Medium Quote

Schlofin Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 It is not available on either my Vista or XP Pro Machines. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted June 25, 2008 Hash Fellow Posted June 25, 2008 It is not available on either my Vista or XP Pro Machines. I think encoding to Sorenson was dropped in QT 7 (although it will still play it), so it isn't so much Vista vs. XP, it's QT6 vs. QT7 MPG4 is somewhat faster to encode than H.264 Quote

Congrats on getting started on TaoA:M. Let us know of any problems you have along the way. One thing though... Before you get done with all 20 exercises you've got to do one of the following: 1.
