Gerry Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Here's a preliminary test of one segment of the Christmas animation I'll be doing for the company where I work. This bit will come at the very end but I wanted to get it done early to make sure it would work. This is the material that's being interfered with by the model surface settings that I mentioned in the A:M v15 forum. the colors as they show here aren't the way they're supposed to look. I expect to get that fixed eventually. gifttransformtest_h264.mov Quote
Gerry Posted October 10, 2008 Author Posted October 10, 2008 This is continued from my thread over at http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=33547. I've rendered just the animated material action and it works fine, so there's something else messing with it that I need to look into. Here's what it's supposed to look like: giftwrap_test04_h264.mov Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 10, 2008 Hash Fellow Posted October 10, 2008 I looked at the before and after... I'm not sure what part is the bad part for you, unless it's the sudden color pop at one point. Quote
Gerry Posted October 10, 2008 Author Posted October 10, 2008 The colors look washed out in the first one. It may just be the lighting, but the color combos that I used don't seem to be syncing up. I'm gonna fiddle with the keyframes before I post another test. Quote
Fuchur Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 The colors look washed out in the first one. It may just be the lighting, but the color combos that I used don't seem to be syncing up. I'm gonna fiddle with the keyframes before I post another test. The surface-properties you showed us in the other thread are the once of a whole model and they are usually set to the values you showed us. It is quite unlikely that they are causing problems. It maybe a keyframe thing... *Fuchur* Quote
Gerry Posted October 10, 2008 Author Posted October 10, 2008 Here's a slightly better animated material test. I'm holding on the various color combinations for a few frames instead of just mushing through them. giftwraptest05_h264.mov Quote
Gerry Posted October 17, 2008 Author Posted October 17, 2008 Here's a series of scenes. I think some of it goes by a little fast, but it's just a first draft to check lighting and timing. Scenes02to04_h264.mov Quote
largento Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Coolness, Gerry! I like the effectiveness of the silhouettes in the "bursting through" shot. Quote
bighop Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Very cool. I don't think it is too fast. I like the speed. Quote
Gerry Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 Here's a first render of one more scene. I used Benslens for the fisheye effect and it works great! It's so easy to set up I can't believe it! Thanks guys! Scene07_test01_h264.mov Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 22, 2008 Hash Fellow Posted October 22, 2008 those look good! Quote
Gerry Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 This is a rough version of several of the scenes strung together. I'm still working on the timing and a lot of other tweaks and it's coming out just fine, but I wanted to post something before too much more time went by. Also a little bigger file than I like to post, but you'll get an idea of the story. The shooting star and stardust in the opening were created in After Effects. Scene01to07_v2_h264.mov Quote
Darkwing Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 very good, is that the snail from last year that i see on one of the poles? Quote
Darkwing Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 yay! I am really looking forward to this. i always kind of wanted to make a christmas cartoon, but i just never had the time to do all the work! that's why i always like to see these, i love christmas! Quote
Gerry Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 Thanks Darkwing, I am rendering out final scenes as we speak! this is my favorite project here. My boss likes to do offbeat and quirky for our holiday greeting and that suits me to a tee. FYI, in using the benlens, which I really like: the readme file says it doesn't play well with volumetric lights and fog. I should also mention that it appears to cancel any glows as well. Just thought I'd add this to its short list of quirks. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted November 6, 2008 Admin Posted November 6, 2008 Very nice Gerry. I was looking forward to hearing the music! Quote
John Bigboote Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 WOW! Great stuff! That looks like you put a LOT of time into it! Can't wait to see the finished product! Quote
Gerry Posted November 6, 2008 Author Posted November 6, 2008 thank you gentlemen. John, as you can see I'm making good use of your snowflakes! Quote
largento Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Bravo, Gerry! I got a laugh seeing the Christmas Snail from last year! :-) Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted November 6, 2008 Hash Fellow Posted November 6, 2008 All hail the Christmas Snail! That looks wonderful! Quote
Gerry Posted November 14, 2008 Author Posted November 14, 2008 Stick a fork in this baby, it's DONE! http://www.visualexllc.com/vlexholiday2008/2008Holiday.html Gerry Quote
Jeetman Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Looks Great Jerry!! I love the star effect in the beginning, the things coming out of the ground are in good time to the music and the present morphing is very smooth!! Excellent job! George Quote
largento Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Great job as always, Gerry! You're making me think that I should do another animated x-mas card this year. Last year I waited until the last minute and nearly killed myself trying to get it done in time. At least this year, I could put it up on the Wannabe Pirates website... Quote
TheSpleen Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Impressive to say the least. A job well done. Quote
Darkwing Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 yay! that's terrific! great job! you get better each year! Quote
Gerry Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Thanks everyone! I am making one tweak, my boss thought the snail was a little too in-your-face and wants me to tone it down a bit. I'm going to, but I've also added links so folks can view the animations from 2007 and 2006. So if you stop back you can view the earlier ones, but they're in .wmv format so I don't think Mac users can view them. Just yesterday I downloaded and installed a .wmv Mac plugin, but I'm still not able to view them at home. Anyone know anything about this? Quote
MasterFunk Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I think your talking about 'Flip for Mac.' It is very usefull for viewing .wmv files. Just search for that and it should work. Quote
Gerry Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 I just noticed a few minutes ago that if I click on the page with the .wmv it will launch in a Mac version of Windows Media Player in a separate window. Not what I was expecting but it plays. It's not Flip4Mac though. I do have that installed somewhere I think. But isn't that for playing .wmv's in QT? Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted November 16, 2008 Hash Fellow Posted November 16, 2008 I watched all three, those are wonderful spots. Too bad about the snail, bosses are lame. Quote
Gerry Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 Don't feel bad for the snail, he'll still have his cameo. I'm just cutting away a second sooner. We're launching a new business venture in Washington (DC) so there will be a lot of new law firms getting a holiday greeting from us for the first time and my boss is a little leery of emphasizing the snail too too much; ya know, first impressions etc. But she's 100% in favor of having the snail in there. And she really liked the idea of linking to the two past animations. So it's win-win. She lets me have a lot of fun with these so I can't complain. And even though I've got 3DS Max on my machine, she lets me work in A:M. Quote
apprentice Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I think the camera cuts and storyboard are really good. Thanks for sharing, Gerry Quote
