  1. A bit bored this morning went onto google images and got inspired to make a pic after seeing a couple of Ansel Adams. Here it is: Took about 5min to render with 4passes at 1200x1800. The dirt is a Darktree The road is a off (Texture wise and Model wise). Used AM Hair for cactus spikes and tumble weeds. PLEASE CRITIQUE! I want to make it better if I can. Tips on the road would greatly help! Thanks -Photoman
  2. Just an idea ..thought I'd lighten the mood smile.mov smile.zip another 1.98 project ...found out I will be working new shift next week so I should have more AM time
  3. hi @ all, here are some screenshots, renderings and a short qt-movie from the actual project i´m working on. please tell me what you think about the characters, lightning, etc, i´m sure you can find some critical points i haven´t thought of yet. i have a few questions: 1. the forces setting: i want to have a slow breeze flowing through the grass and the tree... the movie is my very first attempt with forces, i know it´s much much too fast etc... but i was wondering if anyone of you could give ma advice about the settings on the force and the hair-materials. sure, i could figure it out by try and error, but maybe some of you guys figured some good settings out for the effect i want to achieve and i can save some hours of my precious time ... 2. rigging: i want to rig the characters with the squetchrig (would be my 2nd try, the first one didn´t really work out ) the question is if you guys who have experience with the squetchrig see any problems with the splineage of my characters, maybe there´s a splinering too much or too less to get good results... 3. the terrain: at the moment the terrain is´n very big (it seems bigger than it really is in the rendering), but i need to get it bigger. problem is that the grass population slows down my rendertimes enormous, the picture you see here took about 17 minutes (big render, 1024x768 with 16pass... think that´s ok, but if the terrain get´s much bigger it will be much slower too...) does anyone have some tips and tricks to improve the render times on big grass-populated landscapes? 4. dust on the ground: i tried to add some dust to the ground, that it looks more like a real savanna, i tried volumetrics (experimented with dust and mist, but couldn´t get them look good), i also tried out sprite-emitters, but i couldn´t get them slow enough in the movement... how would you do that? i can´t get no sleep anymore because of all this questions in my head, night by night im sitting on my couch with my macbook thinking: "let´s quickly try this one out before you go to sleep", and then i look at the time and it´s 4.30 am.... dammit! so pleeeease help me! thanks ahead to all... windtest.mov
  4. Comments welcome. One question I have is how do u change the ground to somethingg like grass or a parking lot ? I tried to layer, drop and drag to the project workspace, and even rotoscope nothing works..When I render it ,i get the default ground. I can change the color as u can see...Any advice is welcome.... Thanks, Real Newbie here
  5. I haven't posted in a long while, ever since I returned to college to get my Masters (done) and Doctorate in Music Composition. Also I haven't animated in a couple years, but this summer I got the A:M subscription and decided to make a five-movement work for animation and electronic music. I thought I would post the YouTube links here so you all could check it out. I learned a lot I didn't know about A:M in the process, and actually had to rerender an entire movement after finding a better way to do something. Anyway, without further adieu, here they are: I "Purple": II "Industry": III "Red": IV "Interlude": V "Blue":
  6. The whole premise is that of a midsummers day shot of the hills. I got the idea from the hills next to my house. Here are some sketches. The Windmill that is going to be in the semi foreground area. The overall layout of the shot. I am going need some help though on configuring AM hair to get that grass look. (Gold with white tips) More stuff soon. -Photoman

  8. hello there, i've been thinking of a project i have wanted to do for weeks, but i have my hands full, and i would like some help. there really isn't any "script" for this, but i do need models, at least models that have bones, color and textures (if possible). the project is about a studio that would have a little bit of everything in it, for example, there would be a floor for Animation Master, there would be a floor for Anime, there would be a floor for Bands, exe. and i thought, what if some of these characters from these different floors meet each other? would they understand each other? (Japanese: Anime vs. English) ? would they fight? would they make friends? exe. anyways, i thought it would be funny and entertaining to do, you know. i'm thinking of making two characters, that would keep the studio in place. one is a positive character who would help the place, help/ get to know the characters in the studio, and is known for saying quotes from other people (just some random funny thing). and the other character would be usually negative, make fun of the other character, and sometimes try to offend the other characters in the studio, but gets lessons for that, why he would be employed is to clean the place, to fix anything that has been broken, to oder things from the outside world, and keep it tidy, probably why he fusses a lot. sorry for the bunched up paragraph, couldn't stop typing. anyways, to limit the amount of models in the studio, i thought that only the main characters from each book/ show are allowed to go around the studio (yes, each book/show would have their own area, or room, to fit their story, for example, for Warriors (book), Thunderclan would have their forest, Shadowclan would have their swamp, exe.) an example of this would be that only Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi would be able to go out and explore the studio. if you don't want that, you can make the extra characters of these stories. the only problem is that i can't make anime, or poeple, and my hands are full, and i was wondering if you guys would like to help. right now i'm working on the Aliens, and the Predators. if you do want to help, here's a quick list of the characters i'm thinking of at the moment: Naruto: Sasuke: Sakura: Kakashi: Al: Ed: The Terminator: (sorry, no images for these ones) Fireheart, Graystripe, Sandstorm, pretty much all of Thunderclan. Thank you
  9. Hi - I just finished modeling the gorilla for another modeling practice project - concentrating on more detailed modeling - still having a problem at getting my models exact, but it is starting to flow a little better - still a ways to go before I gets as skilled as a lot of you guys. For example the watch on the gorilla's wrist - if you look close some of the pieces are no super smooth, but hey practice practice practice makes perfect right? Need to work on the gorilla's lips and nose a little more, I may have accidentally moved some of the pixels - I noticed when I rendered the pics. Anyway, here goes - any suggestions on anything would be appreciated. Thanks - Eric
  10. Last Monday I was contacted to transform a 2d architeture sketch in a 3D model... Is missing lot of details... pool area / backyards / people ... Next Monday is my deadline Special thanks to Mark for these greeeeaaat trees !!!!
  11. I am making a commercial for my literature class and it was pretty much an open project. We just had to advertise a product and you could make it up. Well i made Piano Hero... dont worry i wont make this real it will just be for a little while so i aint going to get in trouble... but i wanted yall to see what i have come up with. 1***1 2***2 3***3 4***4
  12. I am getting more confident in my modeling ability, so I thought I would challenge myself and TRY to model a motorcycle. Below is a couple of pics of the actual bike and the front wheel that I started on. I think one of my problems is too many CPs, but as you can see from the CPs pic there is a lot of detail around the wheel rim and the indented black area - that I have a lot of CPs in, which I think I need, but not sure if there is a simpler and better way to do it - I would love any advice on that and anything else. Also, the tire I just put a torus on there as a filler - I'll do the tires last and try to get suggestions on the best way to do it. Thanks for any help, Eric
  13. Hi - wanted to post the first pic of my new modeling practice project. I need practice modeling, decalling, materials, and hair ... so pretty much everything. So I went with a gorilla - I thought I might make a "guerilla gorilla" - with a gatlin gun, knife... full military setup for detailed modeling practice. Anyway, I'll post as I go along, and any suggestions that would help make it better are very welcome. I need to play around with the hair a little more - It is a little long - although it is kinda different - any thoughts?
  14. I just completed the "Giraffe" chapter of the book, accidentally got rid of the project (Model) window -- and now I can't find it! Yes, this project was saved -- I've restarted -- I even went back to 'reset controls', but to no luck. I can open up any other project and I get its corresponding window (in this case, the "Model" window), but just not the one I spend the last five hours working on. Another interesting thing...when I choose to open another project A:M asks if I want to save my job, "Giraffe" -- so I know it's there, just no window. So what stupid, silly thing am I not doing? I swear I've pushed every button more than once now trying to get my cool giraffe back on the window so impress my three year old daughter (my one year old wouldn't be that impressed). Thanks
  15. Hey all, I still haven't talked to Martin about this issue, but I figure that I'd switch around some obvious things, if for nothing else than to have a little fun! Here's the corny story I came up with: Cameron Keene, part-time marine, was enlisted by the shadowy group Nightrun Inc. to be the soldier inside their latest covert program, Project Brimstone. Reluctantly, Keene agreed and found himself in the laboratory of Dr. Walter A. Buchanon (later to be his the Keene's evil nemesis Dr. Canon ) being hooked to a rugged suit of armor loaded with every kind of fire arm possible. Wires extruded from his body, sensors monitored his vital organs and soon he became a living weopon! ...How's that, aside from waaaay campy? Here's the WIP: Here's the final minus tint/bloom post effects, DOF and hair What do you think? Lee
  16. OK here's my Project that frustrated me into putting A:M down for awhile. I was coming up with a new idea for the Exercise 6 The doors stuck. I had everything working great but had 2 problems First I will tell you whats supposed to happen: --Keekat butters his corn, he goes to take a bite and the doorbell rings (you'll kinda figure that out ). Then The bell rings again while he's thinking about how this always happens. This is where the problem occurs and my work stopped, I want to go to a side camera angle (simple) then Have Keekat push out from the table and jump out of the chair to go answer the door. Problems 1. I could never get a 2nd Kinematic constraint to work, A:M just ignored it. I could try anything I wanted to attach his hands to the table, the right arm stuck but the left arm did whatever it wanted-even when I turned the other constraints off on it. Can you not have 2 Kinematics on the same chor? 2. I couldn't get Keekat's feet to stop pointing at some random target even when I deleted the target. His feet would just drift pointing toward the target if I moved him. This Chor starts at the point of push-off but includes everything else I mentioned. Kitty_Corneography.zip Cornvid.zip
  17. i will have some stuff tomorow afternoon showing pics but i would like to know if any one would like to narrarate my project.. im making a scare statistics commercial (statistics that will make you want to do it) and i need a voice that if i give the words tomorow that they could have them done tomorow... this person has to be online from around 4:15 to about 7:45 or so Eastern Time so i can talk to them... i would prefer them to have a nice sound recording booth thing that will have decent narrator voiceing or something. please p.m me or email me if you can do this.. anyone is accepted... except 9 year olds to 16 year olders. thank you.
  18. Hi everybody, I don't know if I have a glitch or what, but I have had this A:M software for a while and I am finally getting around to using it. I went through the first tutorial (still image of Keekat) and hit the "render to file" button, saving it as a targa file on the desktop as in the online tutorial and the final scene just renders black, no KeeKat. What did I miss? Thanks! Bob
  19. Hi - after a few character models, I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of this program.... sort of I only have his beak done, but I thought I would post my progress as I go along, so I could get any suggestions from anyone to improve it. Pelican Image 0001 Thank Eric
  20. Just finished rendering the short anim for the gorilla model and stuck it up on my site w/ the 360 and some final images. Thanks again for answering all my forum posts while working on it. It's the 3rd model over on the top. =www.3dcharacteranimation.biz -Eric
  21. I just wanted to drop a "this kicks ass" here about your website, animation project and planned tutorials, Mack. Stay motivated!

  22. A friend of mine and I have been wanting to re-create the battle of Wolf 359 in 3D format for quite some time now. It has been a year since I first purchaced A:M and I am still loving to work with this product. I feel I can start working on something that could take years to get done. But it will be done right. The Battle of Wolf 359 has been a major battle that has been torn apart, analyzed and theorized about for years, but no one has ever tried making a rendition of it other then a version made using Bridge Commander. My friend, Mark Nguyen and I wish to create one possible version of Wolf 359. A possible "chronicle" of events. I have created a teaser which can be seen at the following webpage: http://nekosei.com/stw359/wolf359.html Please do check it out. But that's not all. I would love some help with this project, so I am bringing this to your attention. We will need ships built and/or donated. I wish to ask for you to build one of 20 ships that we need. I've been hunting for the best schematics I could find and will offer them for your use in building. I am also attempting to find a set of decals that we can all share, and a font for the starship names and registries. "But there were 40 ships at wolf 359." Yes, there was. This is where a kind of reward comes in. As thanks for building a ship for us, we would allow you to build a second starship, either using your first model and modifying it, or from scratch if you prefer. So long as it's a design that could be from that era or slightly earlier. Obviously there were no Soveriegn or Defiant class ships then. Likewise it is doubtable an NX class ship would have been there. This offer isn't official yet, as we're not 100% sure of the exact types of ships we *need* yet. It could turn out that we need 25 specific kinds, and 15 randoms. But I do know this: We will need ships for a "decommissioned fleet yard", so just about anything from the past can show up in that scene. All help will be appreciated, full credits will be given on both the website and in the final animation. If anyone is willing to help, please let me know in this thread. All comments are appreciated reguardless.
  23. Hello A:M community, my salutations as a new member and hopefully a new customer. I will continue my search readin thewebsite and related websites, but before or during this time I want to ask and hopefully get some answeres from experianced or begginer notices on the product and if I really should get it. I would love to start by Introducing myself, I am sirius, it is not my real name but itis rather a catchyname, I hope I shallbe spending much time here, and may I also add some of the movies or demo trailers of developement of movies I have seen here are great Now right to the point, I am working on a project for a movie/trailer introduction for a game in developement. My apologies but I am not allowed to release the name. But my placement was in control of the animation and movie section within my team. I have read stories, and seen many videos on the product and am very impressed. Knowingly I am a newbie to animation with outside tools, I have used maya and am learning still many documents in mayas' animation toolset. But I wish to save myselffrom many days of reviewing and reading over document over document of alias maya files and want to cut to a short almost "easy way out" In the animation industry I am nothing but what is called a newb and I am loking to further advance my skills by learning bones and althe joly good stuff. My goal is to start low but reference as much I can to become skilled from the communities influence, but I want to know about a quote I will state! Anyone can use it My only question is what about people such as me that have little or no talent at all in animation, that are looking for programs that can be used to teach us basics about animation and complicated parts so that we can use these skills to benefit us in further projects. I am a modeler and have that placed as a down frame so I am ready and willing on the modeling section using maya and a setof many other tools All I wish to do is get going and practice with animation before my project gets going. Complicated animations in a way is what I am trying to express here, such as sword, gun fights that can be compared to an almost animation capture such as tools likedevilmay cry have used for animating in game scenes, my real question here is, can anyone even someone with no talent in animation be able to use and learn from this tool ? That is my main concern, because maya costed close to 7 grand I want to make sure my investment into thisprogram will benefit me as well as thecompany I am purchasing from? Much appriciation in advance yours truly, Sirius
  24. This is my first attempt on something that I've done. I have gotten really addicted to Bioshock and love the Big Daddy's. Included i have a picture of a big daddy Front and side view of the original, and the front and side view of the one I'm doing. Please tear me away on your opinions and bashings. I haven't finished it yet, but what I have been doing *what you can see* has taken me around 7 hours more or less. Now as you can see, the base of the body isn't what it will actually be, it is just there to give me a general idea of where things will go. If you have any opinions that you would like private, or would like to help me, by making a 'little sister, or a splicer' then send me an email (Dragonboy1221@hotmail.com) Make the subject line "hash" so i know.
  25. Hello, I've made a few sets for an animation project, and since this is my first time doing this kind of thing, I would like to get feedback (suggestions, stuff you like, stuff you hate). Anything will help. Thank you very much. p.s. the two city areas are supposed to be lit like it would be sunset...if they don't look that way, please inform me of my error. Also, the other images are from inside the mech.
