Can't get rid of volumetric banding
heyvern replied to luckbat's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
Don't know what you think of this idea... If you like what you have with the volumetric light but want a harder shadow behind the pipes you could use another light that only casts shadows and put it in the light list for the urinals. Constrain this light to the volumetric light and you can "fake" the shadows on the pipes... not really sure this would work actually... would the light from the volumetric blow out the shadows from the second light? You might be able to make the shadows darker on the second light to compensate. Just an idea.... ...dagnabbit... now I have to pee.... Vernon "!" Zehr -
Modeling smooth curved metal with holes
heyvern replied to Eric2575's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
Sorry Mr. Bigboote, AI wizard only does flat shapes. He needs one that is curved on both the y and x axes. On that same note, Eric2575, you may want to try using the distortion thingy after using the AI wizard to bend the shape. Or use distortion on a flat shape you created. You will need extra splinage in there, "cross wise" if you follow. I find the distortion thingy does a pretty good job at keeping the shape of stuff. I haven't used it for something this subtle before. Keep us informed! Vernon "!" Zehr -
Modeling smooth curved metal with holes
heyvern replied to Eric2575's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
Depending on how the completed model will look you may want to try using a boolean cutter for the hole. Create a shape for the hole, assign it to a bone and set the bone to be a boolean cutter. You may need to parent that bone to another bone or something like that to prevent other pieces of the model getting "cut". Can't remember the exact steps, I haven't used booleans in a while. This would allow you to make a smooth shape with a perfectly cut hole. Vernon "Hot air boolean" Zehr -
Sorry dude! I completely missed this thread! I tuned in very early a while back when you posted the wizard image but missed the Z-man stuff! I have to say the versions that look frightening like me are the first one and the fourth one... in the order you posted. Any one of them though still works.... uh.... where the hell are you getting your reference from? Is my avatar really that good? I am truly honored and flattered to be presented in this way... I will have to shave more often of course to maintain the likeness... I tend to shave every 3-4 months... when I start to lose bits of food and CDs in my beard I decide to shave it off. I do make jokes about my hair but just so I don't mislead... I have hair on my head... on the sides and back... I am only reletively completely bald when I use the clippers... usually around the same time I shave my face. I am thrilled that someone thinks I offer some usable advice inbetween my silly comments. Oh man! I must be a very well adjusted person to be able to look at this stuff and feel good that it looks like me! I love this stuff! Thanks Paul! You have no idea how much I appreciate it. I almost don't feel worthy. p.s. There was few oddball friends in college who called me "The Z Man!". It never caught on. Vernon "Z-Man" Zehr

Those dates sound good to me... Don? Rich is correct. You should be afraid, you should be VERY afraid. Vernon "!" Zehr

I will be around! I can show my Happy Bear stuff. I may actually have some audio lip synched by then, who knows. p.s. I have been using v11 more now on the PC. Hopefully I can use the new v11.1 on the Mac, I just have to get my courage up. Vernon "One Vote, 10 beers" Zehr

What audio codec are you using? I am on a mac with QT 6 and I couldn't hear the sound due to a missing component. Vernon Zehr

This may be more work than a plug in but it worked for me. Not as easy to apply to a texture of sorts but with some tweaking it could. A simple tutorial based on a project I had to do with text on a sphere: http://www.lowrestv.com/lowres/tutorials/t....asp?tut_id=t11 Vernon "I'm becoming spherical" Zehr

Hee hee... I love Miss D. I think she is the Bomb! (pun intended). I find her exagerated "proportions" are so over the top they leave the area of offensiveness and come around the other side to.. uh.. unoffensiveness... like that.... sort of...you know like a circle... goes off the scale to the other side of the scale kind of thing... And Crime Bomb is a perfect male exagerated counter part.... I mean that poor guy must have titanium knee replacements! Be careful about modeling the "P" word. We don't want a replay of the hippo incident.. p.s. The Osmands want to talk to you about Miss D's teeth though. Something about "copyright infringement" and "intellectual property rights". Marie didn't have a nose job after all. The gravitational pull of her teeth caused it too shrink into her face like light in a black hole. Vernon "A little bit country" Zehr

After watching this several times I started to get a little concerned.... Did you know that most insurance companies don't have any type of coverage at all for this type of thing? I can understand that an occurrence of this kind would be very unlikely but hanging up on someone in midsentence is very rude... Vernon "Won't sleep tonight!" Zehr

Personally I think you are just completely obsessed with those huge "air bags" and you take any oppurtunity to watch them jiggle... back and forth... back and forth... You can pause it and make them jiggle in slow motion.... ...back and forth... up and down.... Vernon "Not obsessed with dynamic constraints" Zehr

Oh my that is creepy... like looking in a mirror...uh... from the neck up anyway... I think there should be a "V" on the suit rather than a "Z". Although, the Z is similar to an "S" which fits the original idea. Personally if I became a superhero, I would never wear tight fitting clothes. I would lean towards very dark baggy clothes with lots of utility belts... size 42 utility belts... long capes are good. ------------- Light lists are fun and easy to use! The first time I used them as a serious tool was for my comic entry in the AM image contest a few months back: http://www.hash.com/imagecontest/Apr04/10.jpg I had bunches o' lights that were assigned to, the table, the clock, the wall. I had different colors for each light, for each panel and was trying for a bold comic book style. Each panel is a render right out of AM. I only put the text in with photoshop and made minor histogram adjustments. So of course the blue light against the wall would have made the gold metalic clock look green (the wall model was white). I don't think I had one light in there that wasn't assigned to a light list in the choreography. Thanks for the tribute Paul... I think.... Vernon "Z" Zehr

Hey it does kind of look like me.... even the hat! I still wear the hat I got in Mexico when I went to Sigraph '03... Of course you need to add about 50 lbs or so... I have a gut... ------------------- I think what you need to do with the light is to use a light list. The light to highlight his face should be added to the models light list and not light all models. Then it shouldn't blow out the shadow on the ground... I am guessing since I am not sure about toon renders. p.s. Why don't Mennonite woman shave their legs? To hold their stockings up. Vernon "Amish-low-carb" Zehr

On a more serious note.... Is this car now Hash patches? Or was it imported as a prop? If it is converted to Hash patches, without sacrificing goats in a pentagram, would love to hear some background on that process if it isn't too complicated to explain (goats are expensive... and they smell). ...okay... not a completely serious note... Vernon "Smelly goat sacrificer" Zehr

So, uh... I guess that car won't need... uh... airbags then huh? Hey come on! Someone had to say it eventually! I mean really! Those are really big...uh... I mean those are huge... airbags! p.s. You really should "turn them off" when children are present. Vernon "Nice airbags" Zehr

One teeny tiny itty bitty critique... no not that you 12 year olds.... In that position, and I may be wrong, it seems that his stomach/chest transition area is too..smooth. That spot jumps out at me as "unrealistic". Bent over like that I feel his stomach/fat/muscles whatever should be "pushed" out somewhat. Minor crit. Like I said I could be mistaken... you should see MY reference in a full length mirror... no you shouldn't... the nightmares.... Vernon "NOW I'm wearing pants" Zehr

One question remains..... In this barren landscape, without clothes or... pockets.... Where did he find the tools to get that cool haircut? "I am naked in the dessert... man I need a hair cut really bad!" Is this the backlot of a minimall somewhere out west? Did he get drunk and lose a bet? He got the hair cut and didn't have money to pay for it so the hair dresser took his clothes and... All kidding aside beautiful image. Breathtaking. I love the starkness of it. Makes it look "bigger". It forces your mind beyond the edges of the image. p.s. If you look very closely you can see the two by fours holding up the mountain backdrop set. Vernon "Hair envy" Zehr (can't see anything else to be envious of)

Some suggestions: On the web site remove everything except the content, which by the way, I have not been able to see as of yet. You have java applets? Or something? There seems to be "blocks" of content somewhere but they never show up. When doing a web page for something like this the first thought should be towards getting to the good stuff as easily as possible. Is the site a "look at all the cool HTML stuff I can do" or is it a site about the film project you are working on? All of those other things just get in the way. If you must have those things in the site then have a splash page that indicates it is for PC only, or there is a lot of java (not javascript, JAVA APPLETS!). Or have an alternate page. Java NOT JAVASCRIPT, even when done usefully and correct, is iffy at best. There is no need for it here, in my opinion. Also since you are using FrontPage, try not to get carried away with all the wizbang gizmos and what not. You are just looking for trouble, trust me. Front page is not... uh... the best tool in the toolbox. The "bubbles" animation is useless and annoying. Try doing a page that is plain old HTML without anything fancy. You want fancy? Make some cool images, use animated gifs...THAT DON'T REPEAT, standard stuff that won't cause a browser (mine) to crash or become unresponsive. Hope to see the actual content someday. Remember KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid - I am not calling you stupid. It's just a figure of speach. Vernon "!" Zehr -
Holy cow, you did that on purpose? I thought it was an acident... Still funny though. p.s. No, getting contact lenses with little black dots will not prevent red eye. Vernon "Ouch! Use the marker on the photo!" Zehr

Yes this would be the "Waterbomb" base in origami, japanese paperfolding. I would have hoped there was a more elegant name for this particular base but I couldn't seem to find one. By the way, I also roat my paper when I spin it on a tack. I like to see it roating around, it is very peaceful. Be careful with the tacks when you do this. You don't want to sit on one and roat by mistake... I am done now with that line of thought... and I apologize for it. Nice animation. Not totally useless. It made me think of origami after all. Hmm... Not positive but could I have seen something almost as good as this in a movie recently? There was this tall guy with a big stick who really needed one of those extreme makeovers... Vernon "!" Zehr
