  1. (HomeSlice, search +light +tutorial by ypoissant. cornell box had the project in there, i was only reading so don't know if the link worked. it's not step by step, lack of images is a problem but the text is helpful.)
  2. sounds like a perfect place to start! - tomorrow.
  3. ~intermission~ ok been reading about cornell boxes, radiosity, and inverse square law - i feel like i'm being spanked with roses. enough! caustics is now out, visible impact on environment by light is out. the light behavior i'm looking for is that of a jewel sparkling in an ordinary way, the facets giving off reflections. going back to AO to torture test one "diamond"=b&w jewel with basic lights. for that to make sense, it seems i have to study rendering. Nancy, that one chapter is so full of information, i don't know how to thank you. even the images of options had some (unintended by you) surprises for the newb. the reason i mention blobbies is the difference between light playing on a faceted surface and on a bubble in motion. while it's a gem we see, the softer change in reflected light direction (as off of an underwater bubble) has a dreaminess to it. that would work very nicely here. robcat, the animation by group is another one of your smart workarounds but not doable here; i've 11 stone encrusted crowns, first i thought 8 of them would have jewels sparkling on them but i feel a burst of creativity descending upon that detail in the manuscript. it would be nice if i could get away with... oh drat.. five...? thanks for that Griffin project! gonna go sit on an icepack and digest.
  4. worked all day yesterday and today and that's not what i got! decided not to post tests but must admit i'm almost tempted now.. for laughs.. well it wasn't that clear cut in all honesty - i'm using AO almost exclusively (fantasy landscape without sun) and the stones should sparkle as if being the source of the light. the mass of photon destruction surrounding your jewel looks really, really promising, just what i'm hoping for! unfortunately, the chapter beginning "The first one uses the matcap shader" is beyond me, all concepts are new. initiating study mode. thank you so much for the project! found a gem here, cross referencing: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...p;hl=portuguese
  5. caustic sounds wonderful, had to google to see 3D relevance. search gave corrosion and Apex Twin. choosing that. the film is a Caustic Danse Macabre. basically it's a mirror ball thing, as with a diamond turning in sharp light; but i got caught up in the film HomeSlice has on the blobbies tutorial. there's a softness (a bendyness) in the light from those underwater bubbles that supports other ideas in the scene with the crowns. the effect is in essence the difference between a blinking light and a jewel reflecting light: the jewel reflects a light show. i don't know how to say it in words. a shrunken, rotating mirror ball off focus?
  6. miniscule blobbies? with mirror material reflecting a lamp that only affects them? that would be ~20 emitters..
  7. planning stage: what's a smart way to have jewels reflect light? i'll be making crowns, they have different kinds of stones in/on them. the light won't be that of the sun or lamp, cheats are sort of built in. i'll be compositing excessively, no problem to add a layer or three. but how to think/plan/execute?
  8. yours is just the best project, animated tap dancing. when finished, it'll be unique. where are the clickety-clicks and the shhhhhhs? Lothario is very convincing, good hefty motion, body is very good. will he have a prop of sorts on his paws, for the clicks? toes almost there, a slanting angle someplace left to do (hers) but you already knew that. was mostly thinking about arms this time. the way hands start the gathering of energy for a hop. i think it's about speed. and shoulders not moving. i think patterned floor helps. music was anti-motion somehow. ref. your comment about Fred; 3D: only way to make something other than Fred hover like that.
  9. while patty duke draws a tickling inkling followed by a blank, your animation did that particular job knowing about Duke would have. you tap dancing is the explanation for speed+quality of the clip. it's amazing. joining your hubby in appreciating your generosity - the photo is
  10. it's unbelievable how much how well how fast you've done, just unbelievable, and i've seen before that you can animate AND you've chosen Fred&Gin! you said this was about the hair for now - looking good! given their hair-dos you could exaggerate more when they nod fast, but that's also about the overall style. do you tap dance? it's really helpful if you try doing some of what they're doing. since you've chosen tap, regardless of what you want from the scene, what you really need is the sound. this is less about dancing and more about making music with the floor. so this goes for every test render. find first key poses through shoulder-hip lineation (back-front-straight up, left-right). find second key poses through the hand positioning (balance&drama). (that will sort of "give" you the legs) a general attitude is keeping weight going upupup since the dance is about being able to drum the floor. keep a general torso-striving-upward motion constant. hips have the same but in lesser degree. (this would be a nice scene for the squetching you mentioned! kick-series start from shoulders - return; large arm moves start from hips - return) keep the "footboll-kick" principle in mind while doing fast taps where you'll gain by not keying the actual tap-touch. position toes during first blocking. then decide why they're dancing. fun, drama, skilled dance or romance? are they a team working together or is this when they "finally meet"?
  11. sounds like a best buy! luckily, there won't be much flying. unluckily, there will be feathers moving in the wind..
  12. markw, thanks - my download seems to be an extras CD. now i want what you've got, and i found it in the store. MJL, thank you, but i'm afraid the real problem was more of a starling. or a cuckoo. sizewise. in proportion and beakshape. i first thought i'd have to modify the eagle! having gotten to the root of this problem the answer is, surprisingly, 30 dollars. thanks again for helping me along!
  13. thanks for getting back, jakerupert, searched TWO and SO forums for both pidgeon and dove, no results.. markw, you sure?! for subscriptions, the extras can be a bit of a challenge, downloaded mine separately 6 months later from a link posted specifically for someone looking for a model that was found in the extras CD. libraries increased substantially, so considered i got it all. took a good look again after reading you, found 4 geese but no pidgeon. (the right wing of the eagle is not rigged properly, maybe this would be something for one person to tweak once, instead of for every subscriber to tweak?)
  14. hi! where did you find the a:m compatible, animatable pidgeon for your fun contribution to the bus stop? my libraries contain 3 birds no pidgeon.
  15. that's good spelling, that is. very happy with that!
  16. it's the "Libby N. gotta feed" demo (krazy explosive mix)? (had to literally good vibes.
  17. that was intense! good chopper sound too. how long will it be? there is so much going on! have you tested a darker lighting? i'm thinking even more loom&doom, but above all, focus. more focus to the letters - that the drama would be about the letters. for example; at first there's very, very little light on the letters except for the red-blue pulse - till the chopper comes along and a white spotlight slowly sweeps over them so they can be read.
  18. monumental. the helicopter does it. perfect contrast. it's sort of inspiring, my head put king kong there almost instantly. waiting for the animated lights! (in case you've the inclination, maybe see if "kerning" could help?)
  19. that- - was that robcat? in the film? made me think of his avatar. great job! the phone number will appear in digits, i presume? nice fluid dragon as well, where is that button btw?
  20. a message from my central nervous system: eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! yes, another compliment. now, please make it stop!
