  1. learning at a disasterous rate. smoke coming from ears. *begins lathing a shape to make fire extinguisher*
  2. aiming for "engaging". and humorous. context does matter, both ways, and if there's any doubt why don't we put it to a public vote whether a longer piece will fit in the context of all other contributions or should be presented on its own? seems only fair.
  3. yay thanks! two things come to mind; i force-key the whole model on the first frame the first thing i do whenever i start a project. should i stop? second, this Magnificence Nullified appeared on the third or fourth session and day working on this project.. can't stop thinking about the shift+middle mouse button drag since it often happens i press wrong keys on keyboard. (here's a reason for the lack of capitol letters in these posts. takes for-freaking-ever to get them right) if anyone knows that there's a shortcut for scaling a null i'm very interested. having a hip a null slightly larger than the body is helpful, all the time actually. much smaller than the one i've got, but larger than the default.
  4. i'm aiming high as usual, if it's a short i want the final to have music on it, and be able to apply for festivals and events and so on. in which case i would need your set! the bus is no longer a problem, sorted that out last night: it's presence can be done with sound only to great advantage for the story. how did you change the title below your username? i feel mine is mocking me! the master of what?
  5. something amazing just happened. reading this and starting to frase a reply i have just had the first ever simple film idea in my life. this site is unbelievable, good things happen here. it's a two second absurd gag, nothing to it. except i have to model. do materials. ay. i'll try and do both ideas only, almost nothing happens! it's a very, very slow thing, you'll see. i see. i'll check if a:m post has a possibility to use custom shape color filters. i understand other programs on this project is a no-no.
  6. here's a short version with a long null nullscale.prj
  7. i'll make the capture later, but doubtless that will end in embarrasement; the behaviour of the view was nothing new, with absolute certainty i've worked on a bug-free program that did the same thing. vague memories would hint at it possibly depending on something robcat already talked about; where you do the moving, where the mouse pointer is in relation to the ground plane. if there's a bug, this is most likely not it, it's probably the bug that lives in the mirror. robcat! how 'bout a film for a film? got a group of n00bs here wishing to convey a sentiment for all you helpful people here (EDIT: removed a large film, smaller in post to follow) was that too big? it's 2 seconds right out of a:m default rendering; QT, VGA, 640x480.
  8. even 40 seconds would almost certainly be too long for a project like this. Quick vignettes is more the order of the day. well that's that, then, this brain only knows how to do stories. how have the previous community projects been displayed, is there a chance to have a shortie on the side? as in "this time the assignment also inspired one short film, here." it seems so connected to the big project anyway. oh mtpeak2 was not the one who made the bus! that's trouble. hmm.
  9. intermission information: beginning to feel confident with thom, i think we have something. feels like the oct 6 sounds plausible for my abilities and pride . the next generation of problems looks a little different: first, it's quite possible that i'm in the process of making a minute-and-a-half long short film on the subject. yup. currently testing how fast i can show something that should feel slow; if the magical 1'40" would translate into kooky 40". no need to respond just yet, this is just putting it out there. but mtpeak2 might want to consider this and the consequences, just in case, and let me know. second. while i naturally and completely understand the rule about the lighting, my project would look very different if there were some way to get an approval for a second lighting. yes. i realize it is the sun. it's about going from the set lights through fade to another set, then a quick fade back to normal. it's not absolutely necessary, but as you can imagine given that it is the sun, the impact would be big enough to make an exception meaningfull - IF i'm able to make/fake a lighting that would be acceptable. any thoughts?
  10. yes i have the latest version. the "n" tool looks normal enough, but the "r" tool grew during this thread and now covers entire thom. there's a roll handle protruding from the square "n" tool, pointing straight up the y and looking quite remarkable.
  11. thank you! what a fun day this has been. the null is acting in character and just looking weird so i'll press on. there are no changes in this thom, but there might be so i saved a project-thom in the beginning just in case - he can be replaced with a yellow thom with slim hips.
  12. have to specify, in the first image of the null the white tangled mass is not some bone, but entire thom. check out the ruler running the length of the image! the null really is huge.
  13. a-ha! now i can safely get rid of it and know where to find it when and if. my thoms come with hip nulls slightly smaller than their feet nulls. hmm. and yellow. bus thom is not yellow but grey. it's probably the render mode.
  14. oh blasted, the whole window, that's not the whole window. but there's not much missing, info-wise that is. pixel-wise yes. is that a sufficient view? edit, you beat me to it.
  15. aah, yyyeaah, eh - is next month too soon? yes? october? good! i know where the tutorial for that is. i've zero inclination to begin learning that, even if saying so has the aroma of "famous last words" all over it.. choosing to direct energy to fun problems or real problems or irritating though not debilitating distractions (the null in next post) i'm on a very confined energy-budget right now. would it be okay to Sherlock this Holmes at a later date? since the non-perspective view is working?
  16. have to say -watching thom run with a null-spear through his belly- this kind of exaggerated null could be helpful in fine-tuning a motion.
  17. there are two properties windows already open, one of them has a headline that says Properties, the other has a pin on the upper left corner and no headline. both say scale values are a uniform 100%.
  18. Something is very wrong if it's going in the opposite direction. in perspective mode, only in perspective? but oh, yes, going in opposite directions in perspective mode! it's wild, weird and ludicrous. and not unique, i remember that though not sure of the program in question. in the ordinary (?) non-perspective mode everything is exactly like in your film. forgive my manners - when i'm in the zone i've this tunnel vision not conductive of social interaction. bit of a machine the mystery of saved/ not saved views is gone, the 7-view is what confused me because it is the only one that saves even the t-key views. only, when animating i wasn't alert to the patterns. (i was going to say that otherwise it would have been easy to spot but that's not true. when everything is new it's difficult to separate relevant things from irrelevant no matter how simple they are!) i now fully grasp the saving of the m-key moves and not saving of the t-key moves thanks to you. i just rushed on with new questions and neglected to say so. i'm not afraid to look stupid, or ask the same question 50 times till i understand it, this is too important for me, have to learn this, make it mine in one way or other. thank you for the film. now.. how about my new post
  19. no point in starting a WIP just yet, i'll just keep spamming the newbieland; i've just played with the toggling of perspective/non-perspective views (using the keys involved) and seem to have blown thom's hip null out of view. first i didn't even notice it, then it was easy to ignore and now it's all i think about. everything is fully functional, the n and r tools appear with normal sized visual tools, but the null star is like four times the height of thom (but centered where it should). it's possible this could have happened while testing the mouse earlier; shift-dragging w middle button down. i might accidentally have nudged a wrong button and given a shortkey-command. anybody know what's going on? i've only been in chor window and bones mode all day.
  20. a-HA! i tried moving in a perspective view and drowned in moldy memories, Bryce i believe, of never being anywhere useful seeing what i needed to see. the total unintuitiveness of this mode! it's fantastic! move the mouse down the view goes up. move mouse left view goes right. and am seasick now. when is this useful?
  21. I see this ending in tragedy! We'll do it in front of a phony bluescreen background so it just looks fast! volunteering to AE the slo-mo reruns after each highlight
  22. concisely: no comprendre. does non-perspective mean not bird's eye? toggle what and what - non-perspective to bird's eye? i tried but no? it is big and 16:9, the screen size is also an issue and yes, after the double monitor-discussion i had a millionth consult with my Techie and and i'm cleared for a 2nd screen. don't remember the specs 'cause i'm still not ready to move on that either, my problems are so-hoooo basic. no point in investing if i'm not able to be happy doing this and you know i'll be grinding teeth for some time to come.
