  1. Price wise I think the Sony Flip pc's might be better, they also have dedicated higher end video cards, bigger screen (up to 15"). As with all touch screens that are Wacom enabled they have a reduced pressure sensitivity (I believe around 256) compared to a bamboo which is 1024, Intuos Pro and Cintiq are 2048. Big drawback (stupid pun) for me with the multi touch and pen combo on the same screen is one doesn't turn off the other when in use. They don't toggle between modes which is probably an OS issue. Try Painter and you will have virtual smudges along with your sketch. Even with that if I could actually try out one of the Sony's first hand I would probably get one, bigger screen and dedicated video for roughly the same price sounds better. Trouble is around here there is no stores that have them to try and I refuse to dish out big bucks for something like that without actually seeing it first hand. Almost like buying a car on Ebay...
  2. I was wondering if anyone has been able to export a Hash model to 3d pdf? I was thinking I could use an obj format to keep textures but not sure what converters are there out there that might be free? Basically I want to be able to show mock ups of items to my customers with their imprints on them so they can easily show their customers. I have been rendering stills but that can be tedious when they want different views and only tell me after the images are rendered. I did stumble across Meshlabs, when I first tried it the program was a clunker. Seems they have really fixed it. Perfect for those who want to close openings and fix meshes for 3d printing. Free of course. http://meshlab.sourceforge.net Nice to see they have all platforms covered, Mac, PC, Linux
  3. Is it true? Baked surface is power of 2 now? Think I'll start a mod for one of the games I play. This is sweet
  4. I noticed that too but blamed another program for pooping my system out and making me ultimately reboot. I ended up using my cad software because of the large number of text models which are kind of a pain in AM and other programs. Probably would have posted something about the crash but didn't pay too much attention, was too busy to investigate.
  5. Successfully circled the sun once again. Thanks Guys!
  6. Nice! Some of the people are using Scupltress or 3d Coat to rough out a model and using AM to retopo it. Scupltress is free, other is under $300 and has built in paint which can be handy.
  7. Would be nice if we had symetrical selection using the mirror mode. I could see that as being a handy way of selecting parts on a charcter and hiding the rest of the geometry for assigning cp's to bones. IE select left middle finger tip, hit the hide button jump to bones mode and assign left and right left middle finger tips. Wonder if that is possible to do? I still only name what I need to as I work and find it more confusing as the list gets longer. For me I jump from project to project so less I have to look back over the easier it is for me to remember what I was doing or where I left off.
  8. I had 16 until I wen't to the sub and got 18, never had 17. 18 is really nice, much speedier and far more stable. I think you will really like it. Nancy might be onto something. I deleted the untitled groups, seems they weren't needed and noticed that you have included sets of patches in various groups, wondering if things are just getting confusing. Not sure how others work but I tend to make groups if I need to texture them so I can drag and drop a material to them. So everything brown would be one group of patches, black another and so on. I don't name groups of patches necessarily just to try to be orderly. This might be redundant this when you decal a group of patches you can call those patches back up as a selection. I learned way way back when I had shared cp's and had trouble with shaders showing up, had to muddle my way through a job. Robert helped me out on that and been good to go since. One of the big reasons I only name by texture group is if by chance I need to export the model out as an obj I can then have that file readable in other programs ie 3d Coat or UU3d. The only flipped patch I could see was on the foot, you can see them easy enough because they tend to be black towards the corners. Suggestion, delete all the groups you don't need and just go by material. Be much simpler and should work fine. Not sure why you would need to rotate any patches, you can do that as you decal because you can rotate the view as you stamp. Very intuitive and easy to control.
  9. I have had normals change on patches after save in version 16. I think the cause happens if you have adjacent 5 point patches. I could be wrong on that. Anyone else experience that?
  10. Texture looks like the tv lost it's station, is that the hair plugin? Maybe just use a plain shader, try the teddybear base material without adding the shag. Will render really fast. You can tweak the size of the bump on it. I don't think you need much detail for a surface if it's rendered small like that or if your using a toon shader. Toon shading you don't need any real texture at all, just a flat color.
  11. Do they give a $20 Dunkin Donuts gift card with sign up too? I'm always about the bargain and perks.
  12. The one to thank is Johnl3d he mentioned how to access the Shag plug-in by holding down Shift key when choosing the hair plug. Post is here in this thread: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=45797 Hope it works out for you.
  13. Thanks even though my name isn't Lloyd LOL
  14. Been a while since I posted anything, try this texture out, you can change the thickness and scale to match your model size. If you change the color you will want to use the same values for both textures. One is the shag and other is the base. You should use both. TeddyBearTexture.zip
  15. Can you just model the shapes, animate them on a spiral path and use an extreme motion blur?
  16. I hate those tiny PayPal alternate pay options, PayPal really likes virtual cash over the digital hose that sucks the cash out of your bank account. The subscription renewal process should be much easier than it is. Maybe they could have it just toss up a warning and when it runs out bring you to the page to pay and have the all the update happen behind the scenes. Maybe even toss in a short grace period for payment clearance. Think that is possible? I had a worse experience upgrading one of my other programs where it failed to import my databases (a 3 hour+ process to build) then they had to patch it to remove the nag screen at launch only to have to rebuild the databases again. Then I added another processor to my machine only to rebuild the stinking databases!!!!
  17. Hope you get well! Getting a little boring around here without ya.
  18. It would definately have to be a plug-in or added since it isn't there now.
  19. But that is a "polish" detail whereas fae alba's request is for some sort of blocking/camera placement automation which would not encompass such a detail. One limiting factor in this scripting ... where in A:M do you paste the text for it to work on? Instead of pasting text or trying to write a script, set tags and call them up in a drop down list. Similar to how the extrude tool sees named groups. The script would be essentially calling up a pose and/or action right? Would something like that be feasable?
  20. I think the script idea could be implemented. You have the core components in AM already such as newton. There would have to be some sort of classification in movement types such as run, walk cycles control movement from point to point, facial expressions in another. For it to work the program would have to go through a simulation pass much like the cloth sim does. Tricky part comes in when you have obstacles such as stairs. Does the user need to put in another goal and another set of target? In a game the ai has a fixed set of animations it calls back, big reason why you often see feet sticking through walls or feet sliding when one move translates to another. I still like the idea because you could feasably use newton and cloth to simulate the reactions of a character such as running through the woods where branches could knock the arms and shoulders back and the character would correct itself after passing. Putting this all together would definately be a daunting task but really amazing imo.
  21. I don't bother with Targas anymore since Windows doesn't natively preview them in icon view. I have converted all my textures to png if they need an alpha. This is the most compatible format with alpha support. I do wish AM supported PSD files with layers. Be so nice to be able to have a single file and call a particular layer for a channel, ie: layer 1 difuse, layer 2 bump map etc.
