KenH Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 At least I hope it is. I was in the mood for doing a human-like character and he was just....there. I might even finish him too. Quote
ZachBG Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 Nice! I don't know if you're trying to make Mr. Incredible himself, or just someone like him, but if you're after Mr. I you should note that his brow is much stronger--almost a straight horizontal shelf above his nose. Quote
KenH Posted November 8, 2004 Author Posted November 8, 2004 Thanks. There's not alot of images on the net of him and none are side profiles, but now I can improve his eyebrows at least! Quote
starwarsguy Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I think it's a little longer, too. Maybe it's just his baldness, but I did see the movie 5 times so far... Keep it up! Quote
Admin Rodney Posted November 9, 2004 Admin Posted November 9, 2004 Ken, I must say... you have a knack for capturing PIXAR character likenesses. From Gerry to Mr. Incredible... you seem to catch the basic likenesses easily. Yeah... maybe it needs refinement... but I doubt many who have seen the trailers wouldn't have known who he was. 'Incredibly" fine splining! Quote
cfree68f Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Very sweet! I like the modeling approach as well. just what the head needs nothing more. How's it render? I agree about the brow. Mr. Inc has a very neandertol type brow. I'd also suggest making the back of the head more full. More muscles attaching to the skull to make it less concave and more convex. Imagine Football players.. They have those little fat roles on the base of the skull. and a stump of a neck that runs into it. It is a well done head though. I do hope you decide to finish him. hypnomike Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Great work as always Ken. I like the way you get such good results with so few splines. Quote
KenH Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 Thanks guys. Here's a quick update. Not exactly like him, but without decent reference(or seeing the movie!) it's the best I can hope for. Maybe hair will make a bigger difference. Colin I'll be using your hair tut for that . And thanks again for his eyes. Quote
cfree68f Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Your Welcome Ken, glad to be of service. I like the update. C Quote
mediaho Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Looking good! The only thing I noticed was his nose. It looks a lot rounder than the Pixar model. There's a closeup pic here of his face. Quote
starwarsguy Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 that's looking great! make the violet model and i'll pay you! Quote
Biotron2000 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Ken, Nice work! Here are some reference pics I found: Quote
KenH Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 Wow. Great stuff. I'm way off on alot of him. Cheers. Some of his features are very "chiseled" looking. For example his brow furrows. I'm not sure how that could be done with a small amount of splines. Maybe displacement/bump maps would be the answer there. Quote
KenH Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 I'm having abit of trouble adding the hair. I thought I would be able to just add images(with alpha) to his head and then there would be a way to have the hair constrain to only inside the images. That way you can have hair on only abit of a patch if you only need it. Also that the hair would take on the colour of the image it passes through. But I can't see a way to do this. Would anyone have any advice? Quote
Paul Forwood Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Hi, Ken. I love the stuff that you have been turning out recently! Regarding the hair, have you tried using a greyscale image for hair length where you set length to '0' where you are trying to use your alpha channel? I think Black=no hair Quote
lazz Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Obvious, what's obvious? I don't get it. What supposed to be so obvious about tha- oooooooh. Yup. That's pretty obvious. Incredibly obvious one might say. hehe, yup. I'm a little slow today soo... anyways, Have you checked out colin freeman's tutrorial with hair. It's worked wonders for him and his Robin model. Hope that helps! Quote
KenH Posted November 11, 2004 Author Posted November 11, 2004 Thanks Paul. Good idea and I just tried it but no luck. Either I'm missing something or it's just not possible. Don't know which. Xade: I know about Colins great tutorial (first and last one I ever needed!) but I was hoping to stay away from skull caps. It's a fine way, but it just seems "incomplete" to me. Also, I'm not sure it would work for this guy as his hairline is all over the place. Quote
jamagica Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 Ken H, this isn't regarding hair but it regards about the face you've modeled of Mr. Incredible...he doesn't have the "look" and it's because the bottom of his chin is a bit bigger and pushed outward away from his face a bit more (look at images that were posted) Quote
KenH Posted November 11, 2004 Author Posted November 11, 2004 I think that one pretty much nailed it. Well spotted. Just the hair left. Quote
Biotron2000 Posted November 11, 2004 Posted November 11, 2004 Lookin' good, Ken...now let's see him move! Quote
starwarsguy Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 That's an amazing model! How do all you experts model characters so fast? I want to model one int eh style of Violet but with blonde hair, but I can't model characters for beans! Quote
KenH Posted November 12, 2004 Author Posted November 12, 2004 I'll let you into a secret and it can only be really done with AM(that I know). Firstly the model is only half made(50% of the work).....but mainly, some of the parts....specifically the hands have been copied and pasted from an earlier model I made. So, the more models you make, the faster you can get at making them because there are parts you can use canablolise! Try doing that with polys! Quote
starwarsguy Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Thnx! I'm starting it, but I hope it doesn't look like something I pulled out of the dumpster when I'm done. Quote
