pixelplucker Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 I started back working on one of my people models and wondered if others want to contribute to this pretty massive project. I think many of the users here can benefit having access to good human models with all kinds of accessories, clothing etc. (something along the lines like poser has but better). So far I redid this character and plan on using the tsm2 unless someone has a better idea. If I can keep the base figures cp count down low and bare minimum, I think users can modify the character somewhat easily to make new characters. Tips, suggestions, comments etc would be really really helpful. Quote
jakerupert Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Good idea, for tips please post some wireframes from diferent views and closeup of head... Quote
pixelplucker Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 I'm redoing the head so there are far fewer patches to make it easier to make new faces from this without re-rigging. This is the old head. Quote
nino banano Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 I think is a good idea, I hope to have the time to contribute, go ahead whit it Quote
pixelplucker Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 The more helping the better. I'm reworking much of the base model as well as parts. I think I can make a gender independant model so we can rig once and somewhat easily use universal actions. This should be pretty easy to customize so long as people use the base geometry + clothes and accessories. I'm working on the ear and lips next. Quote
HomeSlice Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 You will probably need at least one more vertical spline on the upper and lower eyelid. Some people would recommend two additional splines, but I think you could probably get away with one, depending on the spline layout of the rest of the face. Quote
pixelplucker Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 Ya, your probably right. I still have to stitch them all together. Another thought... I wonder if the TSM2 if the skeleton is built the same for each of the character bases (woman, child, Man) if the actions can be used amongst them or if the actions have to be redone? Quote
HomeSlice Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Even though the rig is the same, short/tall/skinny/fat people move differently. An action that looks good on a tall skinny person won't look all that great on a short fat person. Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted October 29, 2009 Hash Fellow Posted October 29, 2009 I wonder if the TSM2 if the skeleton is built the same for each of the character bases (woman, child, Man) if the actions can be used amongst them or if the actions have to be redone? You can use it but it won't look right. A lot of character is about how someone moves and if they all move the same, they have no character. Even a walk cycle is a problem after a few steps. Quote
pixelplucker Posted October 30, 2009 Author Posted October 30, 2009 Thanks Rob, I'll just keep the models individual then. Quote
pixelplucker Posted October 30, 2009 Author Posted October 30, 2009 Revised ear, now I just need to start putting the face together. If anyone wants the body parts to start making charcaters, let me know and I'll post them. Quote
pixelplucker Posted October 30, 2009 Author Posted October 30, 2009 Update on the head parts: Zip has the eye, lips, nose and ear as well as a base head I am currently working on. If anyone wants to jump in and have suggestions or comments please let me know or post a refined model back here. The parts seem to stitch together pretty well but I'm always up for an easier way headparts.zip Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 1, 2009 Author Posted November 1, 2009 Here is the new head, I refined it more than the last and put the splines in tangent where an actual skeleton would so when rigged it should move better. newhead.zip Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted November 1, 2009 Hash Fellow Posted November 1, 2009 Anatomically correct ears are a major splining challenge. Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 1, 2009 Author Posted November 1, 2009 I think I have the ear right. Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 Updated Model with head attached and did some detail work for the elbow, knee and lots of tiny unnoticeable tweaks. I still have to pretty up the face and work on the chest some more. Please if you have some suggestions let me know Thanks Woman1.zip Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 Any suggestions on what you see so far? Quote
mtpeak2 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I would add 1 or 2 more spline rings to the forearm for twisting purposes. Quote
mtpeak2 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Yes, if you add 2 spline rings between the existing spline rings at the wrist and elbow. Divide the long patches in the forearm into thirds. Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 4, 2009 Author Posted November 4, 2009 Latest version and added the splines on the forearm. Also fixed the lips. My next step is to fca and finish the tweaking. Hard to tell the proportions with just one side. I will definately need help rigging this to make it articulate accurately and I am a fan bone noob. Woman1.zip Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 4, 2009 Author Posted November 4, 2009 Updated images of the character so far with fca. Quote
Darkwing Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 will this be for the community use, because i was going to ask if there were some people start models like this that i might use in earth link zero Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 These will be royalty free for the community. I hope people add to these with actions, clothes, textures, hair styles, accessories etc. (The character is far from finished since I need to refine the splines especially around the face and head) I am reconsidering what rig to use, If AM comes out with a 64 bit version then the TSM2 may not work since it isn't supported so should I use the 2008 rig? Quote
Darkwing Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 well, if they come pre-rigged too, then you will be my best friend of the day This will be a massive amount of help! Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 Yup these will be fully rigged. Here is latest version of the female. I really need feedback for overall look, useablility and any splines I may need to redo for rigging and posing. Extra sets of eyes are always helpful on this stuff. My main intention is to have a community contributed set of people where the content grows as people use and develop for them. This will make simple work down the road and expand the community to more talent. Most people will loose interest if they want to pop out a movie or short and have to go through all the modeling, rigging etc by themselves. You could call these the Open Source family fem11_5.zip Quote
Darkwing Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 well, once i've designed the uniforms for Earth Link, I'll dress her up and post it Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 Awesome. Any comments on her so far? Quote
Darkwing Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 well, 10 times better then anything organic i've ever modeled Quote
TheSpleen Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 awesome work and very useful! Thank you! Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 Thanks. I just need to finish the inside of the mouth so if anyone has some teeth they want to donate I would love to add them. She is under 2k patches which is pretty high but I think we really needed some of the extra splines for fan bones to simulate muscles and bones. When I set the decals up I am going to try to fit them on one 2048x2048 texture tile and keep it logical so the image can be changed easily along with one base shader for color. finbasemesh.zip Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 Quick update on the character. I have the mouth done as well as most of the textures. Still have the hair and eye lashes to do and the rigging. The face still needs more work, looks kind of crude (almost scary) Quote
mtpeak2 Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 You should do the texturing after rigging, just incase you need to make adjustments to the spline layout. Quote
Darkwing Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 yeah, that's probably a wise thing to do Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 99% of the textures are shader based, there are only a couple of decals that are easy enough to re-stamp Quote
Darkwing Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 that's good, that'll make customizing the models easier Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 Ya, I thought about that after I unwrapped the entire model and thought if someone doesn't have AM Paint they will be stuck. I'll most likely need to do some bump maps but can do those last. Dark take a look at this mdl and let me know what you think. Not sure on the face still, might be ok by the time we put hair on her head. The Sinead look aint cutting it. Woman.zip Quote
Darkwing Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 out of curiosity, what version of AM are you using to model these? because I tried opening the mdl, and it succesfully crashed AM. it came up with a bunch of loading and spline errors first, so it got me to thinking about version and format compatibility Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Interesting, I am using 15g. Maybe I should bundle it up and send to tech support? Quote
Darkwing Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 ah, i'm using v13, i think i've had this issue before with newer formats Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Try this file, there is the prj as well. This is the latest version. I'm wondering now if the rigs i'll be using will cause some problems as well. Woman1.zip Quote
Darkwing Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 i'll try this new one shortly. the last one seemed to be the tongue i think that was giving it probelms because it popped up and error 004 or something stating about the splinage in the tongue group or something Quote
Darkwing Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 again no go, even tried a different PC. i think its probably my version of AM. can anyone else here load it fine? Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 I'll toss this to tech support and if they got the time maybe they can tell me what I need to do for compatibility. Quote
Darkwing Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 good news, i can load the model now thanks to the V13 upgrade Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 13, 2009 Author Posted November 13, 2009 Here is the newest version, I'm dating them now as we go so dump all your previous versions. Please let me know if there are any errors or things that need to be fixed. There are a ton of old groups but I'll clean those up before I rig. Woman11_12_09.zip Quote
Darkwing Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 everything loaded fine for me with this new one. Model looks pretty smooth too. Of course, I don't really know much about splinage for char modeling or anything, so i guess rigging will be the ultimate test Quote
pixelplucker Posted November 13, 2009 Author Posted November 13, 2009 Ahh good. I just have to read through the 2008 install guide and start rigging. Are you any good at hair? If I do the hair she will look like a poodle hehe Quote
