  1. I've never used Google Chat and will try to attend. If I don't get in it will be because of technical issues and not because of lack of interest. I am on a satellite internet as I live in a rural area and it sometimes is a slow connection. Tom
  2. Hello Hashers- I am trying to simulate a time lapse building being constructed and it occurred to me that it might be useful to have a pose slider controlling the vertical axis transparency of the object so that the building appears to grow from the ground up...according to the sliders position. The only trouble is I can't figure out how to set a slider to do that. Does anyone have suggestions? Many thanks, Tom
  3. The author of the book I posted (Gerard O'Neill) felt that migration into space would really only start to happen when the private companies got involved. He felt governments are subject to so many bureaucratic and political forces that they cannot operate as efficiently as a private company. Here is a tantalizing picture of what may be coming: https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/space-hotel-designs-von-braun-station-scn/index.html
  4. very cool....
  5. funny stuff... keep em' coming!
  6. thanks!
  7. Many thanks for posting the project and bitmaps... Most generous! Definitely will play around with them. For any space buffs looking forward to the possible rocket launch today of the two astronauts (using a private company) here is a great book pointing to a possible future scenario. Tom
  8. Terrific job Rob!
  9. Thanks!
  10. Rob- I only just now (may 25) saw your post on May 2 showing your rocket plume animation. Very Good! I was also looking at your "green fart gas " example (from a few weeks ago) which had some similarities with the rocket plume attempt. Do you know if/when that "opacity over time" issue will be addressed? That would probably add to the animation. Thanks for the example. Tom
  11. I had received the tainted email and my gut told me not to open the zip file. I wrote back to Jason to find out the circumstances and after reading his post, I am glad it is all sorted out. You can't be too careful with all the viruses floating around ( both biological and digital). Hang in there Jason! Tom C.
  12. Hahahahahahahaha.... Silent but deadly Tom
  13. I tried manipulating the existing model to try and get a curved arc to the effect but with not luck yet. I'll keep trying... Tom
  14. Robert- Have studied the project and am amazed at the cleverness of how you assembled the pieces! Well done! The material and animation is presently applied to a flat model. Do you think that if the model were designed differently (like a circular shape) the clouds could be made to unfold as they do in the attached time lapse clip? Tom timelapse.mp4
  15. Many thanks! I will study the written description and try and increase my AM IQ! Tom
  16. I am going through the project that you posted but it seems very advanced so it is going to take me a while to digest it. I'm still trying to figure out how you added a material when there were no "groups" in the model. I know it shows my ignorance but could you explain the steps of that project in a few sentences ? Many thanks, Tom
  17. looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing the prj!
  18. Robert- The cloud using the "material Effect" really looks like an evolving cloud. Would you be able to post a project to show how it was done? Tom
  19. That's terrific...! Thanks Robert!
  20. Looks cool! I really need to investigate the Onion Skin tool more. Has anyone done a tutorial on that feature?
  21. very nice... How would it look if it was animated? like rolling clouds... Tom
  22. cool......
  23. So..is that entire modeling being achieved with a displacement map? If so, very impressive... Tom
  24. hahaha...nice! Tom
  25. Wow....many thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated!! Tom
