Very cool, Colin... I too would like to animate at least part of my desktop... But Until I do... I may steal yours... Very nice.

Animation bootcamps are in the Student's Subforum of the Learning Animation Master section of the forums. If you haven't yet done the tutorials in TAO A:M (the booklet that came with A:M) you might want to start there for the basics... Bootcamps focus on ANIMATION...

Fireplace - how do you block light from going through?
oakchas replied to Eric2575's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
That's moonlight, reflecting off the walls of the chimney and flue. Sheesh! A:M is testing the new smart render feature. It extrapolates as follows: one light in scene, otherwise dark, fieplace =Must be evening, moon outside. This is all for the "make me a blockbuster" button that will be added in V15. -
glad you got something to work! Now "Git 'er done!"

Yes, You can do that with A:M (either a Conrad Chow or put a dino in your home movie... chasing your nephew)... there are many walkthroughs and tutorials for almost anything you want to do with animation and FX from within A:M. And A:M can do much more than many may anticipate... Having confirmed that you CAN do those things in A:M does not mean that you can take your home movie, import it into AM... and press a button to make a magic monster chase your sister through the footage.... A:M is very user friendly, if you apply yourself, you will be able to do what you want... But there is no instant gratification... Your A:M will come with a book of tutorials that will give you the basics, tutorials that are also available in online videos... And from there, in the forums, and elsewhere, you will find many other tutorials that involve compositing live action with CG. So, hop aboard... there are many here to help you if you are willing to make a sincere effort.

Try a clean reinstall... use add remove programs in Windows first... then run regedit.... full instructions are in the FAQ (in leaning A:M on the forums about the 5th post down. You'll have to load AM all over again... but that should get you going... make certain your project and models are saved OUTSIDE of the Hash Inc directory and sub-directories.... Here's the link to the FAQ:Clean reinstall link

here's a tute on spline continuity.. The important part is about halfway through....Maybe that'll help [attachmentid=15264] Requires shockwave flash. basicmodeling.zip

HMMM. Was Bat freak pushed out of a window by the green tentacle? Or is he poncing on it? can't tell... there's no feeling of motion... It almost looks like Bat brain borrowed some stick-ability from Some guy named Spidey... and he's kinda stuck on the building.... Just initial impressions. Disregard as you choose... I really like the buildings and the Bat Dude... but don't know where you're going... -
not sure I understand your question... but let's assume you have a spline to which you have added a cp midway between two other cps on the spline (by pressing the Y key). Then create an intersecting spline (or one that will intersect) by pressing the A key, Left clicking the mouse and dragging the second control point on the new spline to the previously created midpoint spline and RIGHT clicking the mouse. I can only guess that's what you are trying to do by your description. HTH

Hey, Batman! Wake up! there's a thing... a tentacle thing... right there... in front of you.... have you been drinking again?.. No wait, that was Superman... HEY BAT BREATH>>> WAKE UPPPPP! I dunno where you're going with it either but I like it.... -
Dang it! the newbies will wanna know why not... And then we'll have to tell 'em all about the little book that came with their software, and they'll have to learn to do it all by themselves. Shucks! Maybe V14? and V15 will have the make me a blockbuster movie button... I hope!

Stian, Another great model/render!!! Personally, I think a little less DOF would be better... Keep the foreground player all in sharp focus... maybe move one of the earbuds so that it is in sharp focus, too. That, IMHO, would make it a "print ad" standard photo, as you would see in a magazine, or on a brochure cover. I think the embossed logo between the speaker and the display should be readable. I'm looking at it as though you were trying to advertise it for sale, rather than the "esthetic" quality of the render. So you may not want to change it at all.

I'm working on a typewriter... And I had a great handle on it... but then the model got corrupted on a switch to v12... I am Rebuilding now... "We can make him better" But it's coming along... It'll be NEW when first modeled... then I'm gonna age it... Sure are alot of parts... and I would like to rig it so that it gives the appearance of working.... (though I will NOT do all the internal components!) Your Chevelle is looking quite real... maybe it'll be ready when they re-start the image contest (we all think/hope it's gonna be mechanical again...)

Scott, check the radiosity forum for links to spiral light setups... also search mufoof (that's a word) in the tutorials forum (xtaz was the author on that one). The Bradbury brothers were doing some great stuff with radiosity... and a program called neat image to reduce noise... That;s all the help I can give you on lights. As to what yo are doing with this chevelle.... Sigh! I hope I can do as well.... The rear side window needs tweaked... but you are really doing fantastic! And, were it me, i would start seriously considering posting this in the wip section at cgtalk... without ever indicating what software you are using.... so many of the folks over there consider A:M to be a "nice little program for beginners." This Chevelle is starting to show them up... one caveat if you do that... they will "tear it up" but you may get even more ideas to perfect it.

Ohhh man, back to the seventies... with some "purple haze"... and, well--- that could be a baaaaad trip, Man! Love it... fun doodle!

Is this guy AKC registered? I'm thinking he'd eat the competition at the Wesminister dog show, and win by default. I think I want to start breeding these guys in a puppy mill... But I'll have to act fast before municipalities add his breed to the list of undesireables (and they thought pit bulls were bad!). Please fax me his pedigree ASAP, I need to find a breeding pair. BTW, I was so enchanted by watching him go after the little guy, I didn't even notice the problems with the floor... he probably has a lot of mass anyway, so I would think it natural for him to go through at least a bit... Note to self: Reinforce barn floor with 3" more concrete before setting up the kennels in the barn.
-
looking much better! Rodney was right about the composition... the angle really helps.. Also, I think you need some way to show either the natural pooling of blood in the floor, which would follow the grout.... Or the blood, from a dragged object might be somewhat more linear and sporadic. Like a nearly dry paintbrush? Or, from an arterial flow standpoint... maybe some splatter on the walls. just things to consider. It is looking much creepier.

Thanks, Ken... I need to use the advanced search more often... At least now, I understand

I've noticed that for many things... The suggestion is made to click "show more than drivers". I can't find info on it anywhere. How do I "show more than drivers"? What does it do? Point me to a part of the tech ref, or a tutorial.. I can't find it.. I prolly don't need it (yet), but my inquiring mind wants to know... and I see Drivers with a green check mark in it in my models, so I'm wondering. Thanks,

Great Start! good job! Keep it up!
-
I think you're a long way towards that... Pulling it off, I mean! Keep going... A:M is up to it if you are!
-
that looks good! Well, except for the flicker... musta been a jet that passed over the sun... These are the types of clouds that fade away to nothing or at least little pieces of them disappear. That shouldn't be too hard to do. otherwise, very nice!
-
Roger, That is very, very nice. I would like to see it populated with people and a pigeon or two. But if you did that, I'd really think it was a cheat!
-
See there Scott... and you thought I was tough! Still, looking good!
