Great looking creature! possible theories on the walk cycle: - as I frame through it, there is almost no change between frame 25 (end of loop) to frame 1, just the foot and a finger move a little. At the same part of the opposite side of the walk cycle (12-13-14) the whole body is in motion at least a little bit. The apparent freeze from 25-1 is awkward. I tried clipping out frame 25 and the result was detectably smoother. - the right hand (claw?) doesn't seem to be easing into and out of it's extremes. The left side has a more natural motion to it(although I can only see one extreme in this view). -the shoulders seem to be synched with the arms rather than leading them. - a slower gate overall with less arm swing might help the impression of weight, but I don't know how big he is. He may very well be a Happy Troll! Again, a very impressive character.
  2. No, your characters look quite promising! However... collaborative projects (especially large ones) are exceedingly difficult to recruit for, hold together, and bring to completion unless the leader has an established record of accomplishment in such projects. Since forever. I've been part of several collaborative projects; only one* has yielded a finished piece. I imagine other people on this list have been thru the same? So, do a good job on your project here, and next time around you may attract more interest. *plug: see Duck Sauce on AM Films
  3. I know you're looking for "animation" comments, but I'm lazy, and I look at things in terms of "what's the least I can do to make this better?" One really easy mod would be to pick a different camera angle: 3/4 or side view, rather than head on. This would show off the change in pose better. Yes, we can tell he's slouching, but a side view would make it more obvious. Obvious is good in most cases. It's almost always better to have your motion happening across the plane of the screen rather than into it or out of it. This goes to the Frank & Ollie concept of "Staging": "presenting an idea so it is instantly and unmistakeably clear." A side view would give us a better "silhouette". And then, once the pose is presented clearly it gets easier to troubleshoot everything else like timing or arcs, or things we aren't catching right now because we can't quite see them. that's my amateur .01 Good start! Don't stop!
  4. Wow! I can practically hear her peeling out! One little thing... the effortless opening of the door seems out of place compared the weight you've established for everything else in this shot. I suppose you could claim it's an automatic door. But it could be more cartoony if she raised her hand on the approach, paused slightly, then slapped it open. Just a thought. And great models too.
  5. cool stuff guys! Really. "Match Move Artist" used to be a very complicated job in effects houses. I remember going to a panel on special effects for some movie and they showed shots they had to give up on because no one could get the match move right. This looks like it obsoletes a big chapter in Doug Kelly's "Compositing in Depth." Does Cinepaint do things that After Effects doesn't?

  7. That's a good shot. Maybe a few cracks on the walls or something to roughen it up? The a-shirt is a great touch. "Remember me as I was". I wonder what sort of creature she's reverting back to? And does he still have his wallet? But there's one little detail that bothered me when I first saw this. That's the way the bed doesn't seem grounded to the floor.Most of the floor around the bed would be "lit" only by light bouncing off the ceiling, and the area right next to the bed would be exposed to less of the ceiling than parts farther away. I don't know how you'd get that effect without some radiosity technique... negative lights around the bed perhaps? I tried to touch it up in PS to show the general effect, it's not real accurate, but it's the basic idea.
  8. That looks good! - how about some random variation in the "amplitude"? not all rain drops are the same size or make the same splash. - when two wave peaks coincide do they get added or do they just pass through each other?
  9. Cute piggy! I went and looked at some of the other entries. Geez, that's alot of pigs! Am I bad for thinking that some of them were not done in the incredibly brief time they're claiming? Or is polygon modeling really so fast? I guess they never have to worry about manually closing their 5-point patches, do they? (Ok, I'm bad.)
  10. The aerial perspective in L.A. sure looked brown to me. I presumed this was a hitchhiker trying to get to the White Party in Palm Springs. I recall films a few years back where they shot with a half filter over the lens to un-blue the sky and horizon. For mood. "Night of the Comet" comes to mind.
  11. Adorable robot! He doesn't look like the Crush, Kill and Destroy type. (I don't believe I've ever seen anyone put a whole movie trailer in a gif before. )
  12. Nice Run! I finally broke down and got Richard William's book. I shoulda done that a year ago. Tons of great stuff in there. Much better than trying to furiously scribble notes at his $1000 master class. So amazing that there are people who can actually draw all that and get it right. And we imagine CG is hard In addition to what Dalemation said, to make the jump more "credible" I think there's room for more squash in the takeoff and landing. Right now he doesn't seem to go much below the "down" position of the run. I realize he's got rather short legs. Maybe the takeoff point shouldn't be so close to the wall for a more natural arc, too? But that's a great first clip.
  13. That's a cute scene! Like "Jot" in 3D Two itty-bitty things I notice: - when hopping forward, the small ball appears to jump straight up with no energy directed towards the forward motion, yet he moves forward anyway. You do have a good pose of him leaning forward when he's examining something. Could you mix some of that into the beginning of the hop? -I think he sticks to the wall too long when he's bouncing off of it. Maybe cutting out even one frame would be enough.
  14. That's one crazy, weird, far-out looking chick! The only detail that bothers me are the very blocky ribs (?) below the breasts. They suggest a state of emaciation that isn't apparent in any other part of the body. But the overall proportions make for a very interesting fantasy film creature, perhaps in the same neighborhood as the ones Harryhausen used to do. Someone on this forum noted that whenever you deviate from "normal" proportions you'll have to take extra care on the animation of those features to make them credible. As long as you know that, accept that, and are up to it, I suppose you can pretty much do any odd thing you want, right? Looking forward to seeing it animated!
  15. Only two Animation Showdowns got off the ground in August but here are my four-hour efforts: Queezy: Our character had to be so sick he had trouble standing. I never really got the counter action of the arm working right. Mirror: Actually the topic was "You lookin' at me?" but it was defined as a character reacting to a mirror. So that's what you get.   16. Great shots! You'll start a fad with this! Fencing at least, if not 2D. Actually, I can't detect a turned edge on him except for the skin parts. Maybe it's too subtle to survive the compression?

  19. That's a nice scene and cute character. And I like the lighting too. You should get him over to the Animation Showdown How about a fish jumping out of the water and following him around? Did you use fog to tone the background down? That really helps give this shot depth. The relative scale of the various elements is a bit ambiguous, but I won't ponder that too much. I'm surprised that even though he's constantly turning there's no apparent sideways slipping of either wheel. That's a good detail.
  20. Hey, that looks really snazzy! two thoughts... the light yellow title against the white clouds is hard to read... and the falling text seems to be falling too slowly. But those are probably the two items from the trailer that won't carry over to the finished show, so... never mind.
  21. Clever idea! Lots of work goes into something like that. I was quite impressed by the quadruped walk at the end. I always have trouble with the "subtext" of these things: she draws her fantasy... and then it walks away? hmmm... Instead how about if the horse and rider jumped off the page into her room, sweeps her off her feet and yada yada yada. Also, while they were swinging each other around I thought, "field of daisies... somebody cue the field of daisies, please!" Good job!
  22. The flatness doesn't bother me at all. I like flat, graphic things. I suppose part of the problem will be not losing that flat quality in animation? (meaning: keeping the flatness would be a good thing.) I have trouble reading the forshortened poses, like #2 and #3. I think it's because of the all dark-brown costume not being defined by outlining. Eager to see more!
  23. That looks really good. It needs a Tex Avery cartoon to drive around in. Is this one of the models that had a brake light the size of a postage stamp on the trunk lid?
