  1. Thanks! I'm amazed you haven't seen them before. The kind of places I go (book stores, comic book shops, conventions, etc.) have them in droves. There are over 1,000 of the figures now. They seem to have gotten every major license out there. Funko originally started making bobbleheads and then expanded into vinyl figures. They all have this distorted head shape with the wide circular eyes. They sell blank male and female versions in white that you can customize and paint yourself. That's what I based this model off of. I've been tempted by them many times. Especially the Doctor Who figures.
  2. Hadn't modeled anything in awhile, so I thought I'd use the holidays to play. I had never owned one of these Funko Pop! figures, but for Christmas I was given a set of five of them (Animaniacs Yakko, Wakko, Dot plus Pinky and the Brain.) I've seen them everywhere, though. Just for my own amusement, I decided to make one of me. It looked like a simple model to do and it gave me an excuse to try out the v19 alpha on a modeling project. I'll have to check into trying to reproduce some of the issues I ran into. I had several times where I had to hit the "f" key multiple times to get the normals to flip and the delete key sometimes had the same problem. I actually crashed once while attempting an undo, which hasn't happened in awhile. Anyway, I'm attaching a "blank" version of the model in case anyone wants to make their own. It's a *very* simple model. pop_figure_custom.mdl.zip
  3. I'll tag along, too! Generally I have Friday-Sunday sort of free. I'm expecting a big job to come through near the first of the year, but I can work around it.
  4. I saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it. Lots of fun. There's an end-credits sequence that's a fun reference to another Disney animated movie ...and the last graphic on the credits scroll is an image of Wreck-It Ralph, I guess saying that the sequel is their next production.
  5. I agree with Rodney that I think that ongoing contests can keep the community moving forward. Participation is voluntary, so there's no pressure to rush to get one done. I kind of like the idea of not having a theme, though. A theme does give you a starting point, but it also ties your image to a single image contest and if you are unable to complete it by the deadline, there's little incentive to finish it. If we did have regularly scheduled image contests, why not make the theme part optional?
  6. Jason, I'm willing to give it a try. I just updated my Mac to Sierra.
  7. I hadn't heard this, but I was given a choice after the install whether or not I wanted to use the synching and I chose not to. I had a client pay for Dropbox Pro for me and it works great for me. On my desktop, it's just like another folder and I can access the files from anywhere on the web. It even works with some of the iOS apps I use. I could see where it would be great if you had multiple computers around the house and wanted to be able to sit down to the same desktop at any of them, though.
  8. Just upgraded to Sierra. A:M opens fine and seems to work as expected. I think it's worth pointing out that A:M was installed already, so that's not quite the same as installing A:M on Sierra first, but so far, I don't see any new problems.
  9. Pings have worked fine for me. I've been using the Mac version pretty steadily since 2007 and I can definitely say that A:M has improved. The hiccup with the Finder was a pain (the workaround has become a muscle memory now.) The JPEG thing is annoying, but the improvement in performance has been noticeable over the years. It is a port, though, so you can't really compare it to a native app.
  10. You need to quit A:M after you set up everything. It loses that information when you Force Quit or A:M crashes.
  11. Mac version of A:M won't import Jpegs. Change the file format to another option (I use png files).
  12. That was great, Chris! Very clever and a very entertaining way to get the message across. Kudos!
  13. Paul, I guess their claims have to do with the fact that the viewer is pre-cut (rather than you having to cut it out yourself) and their app. Like Matt, I have the iPhone 6 Plus and they say how you can perfectly align the pyramid with their software. I'm not going to knock it, but in the long run, there's no real difference to just angling a piece of clear plastic over your phone. The reflection is just a reflection.
  14. Well, color me not-so-impressed. First, the envelope arrived wide open. I looked around the mailbox in a panic, thinking it must've fallen out in transit. Looking inside, I found a small cardboard container and realized that the pyramid isn't quite what it appeared to be. It's basically a flat piece of semi-opaque plastic (about as transparent as a milk container) with the instructions to "Carefully bend into a perfect pyramid shape." After carefully bending it into what I can't call a perfect pyramid shape, I happily loaded the app and placed it in the center of my phone. Since you're basically looking at a reflection that is angled down, you need the side of your phone to be at eye-level. This means holding your phone up, while the "perfect" pyramid slides all around and fails to sit level. The fruit of all of this is a decidedly fuzzy reflection that I suppose you could call a hologram. I thought perhaps that I had folded it in the wrong direction and tried to fold it so the other side faced out, but that only made it worse. I feel like I just got something I ordered off the back of a 1960s comic book. :-) Despite the packaging's promise of eye-popping crystal clear images that will be the hit of your next dinner party or family function, I cannot recommend getting this. [EDIT] Okay, despite their being nothing in the instructions about this, I discovered that there was a thin film stuck to both sides of the pyramid. Peeling them off, leaves you with a clear plastic pyramid and although it is still flimsy and cheap, the image is at least now clear. Still a disappointment since I expected something better constructed.
  15. This is cool! Found a website that sells the pyramids (one for phone size, one for tablet size): https://hologrampyramid.net/ I ordered the small one just to play with it.
  16. Very thrilled to announce that Stalled Trek: Prelude to Ax'd-We-Are has been accepted by the Dragon Con International Short Film Festival!
  17. Ken, as far as I've seen no other app I've used has a problem with jpegs. I first noticed it while working on my last film and posted about it here: https://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=47656&p=408557
  18. Very pleased to pass on that Stalled Trek: Prelude to Ax'd-We-Are won Best Short at the GeekFest Film Fest at the Dallas Fan Expo!
  19. I've been really swamped lately, but my solution was just to not use jpegs anymore. :-) It seems clear that if it couldn't load the jpegs that it used to be able to then it's not a matter of how new jpegs are being saved. To be honest, I rarely use jpegs for A:M anyway. I mostly use png files since they have an alpha channel. That's probably why I hadn't noticed when it stopped working.
  20. Don't know, Robert. Jpegs used to work, but when I started working on this last project I noticed that when I tried to access old materials and models that had jpegs associated with them, the jpegs didn't show up in the PWS.
  21. Here's what I get if I try to import a JPEG into the Mac version of A:M 18.0p SSE 4.2: A project isn't necessary. It just doesn't import JPEGs anymore.
  22. There's something going on with the Mac version that doesn't let you import jpeg files. I tend to stick to png files.
  23. Those are pretty cool, Matt!
