Looks like they want to hook you into a subscription down the road. Torque engine is still free, has many of the same features and probably more.

designing a cello stool with A:M
pixelplucker replied to robcat2075's topic in Work In Progress / Sweatbox
instead of the saw tooth catch what about a heavy dowel that can swing into place? Leave a little sticking out on the ends and you can lower it easily. -
Welcome Back. Hawaii is part of the USA? Thought for the previous 8 years it was part of Kenya or something. I joined the AM bandwagon just as you departed on your journeys. I remember seeing Hash in 3d magazines back in the mid 90's and at that time I was interested and a friend who taught 3d Studio and worked for Autodesk always had high marks for your software but at that time it wasn't applicable to the work i was doing. Mostly large converted poly files and industrial animation with EIAS and some in first version of Max. I had done limited character work and always wanted to make a few flicks. Hopefully I can get back into AM and get some my ideas out. I always enjoyed working in AM far more than just about any program out there 2d or 3d. Your software truly inspires people. I know it has for me.

Wanted to update that the OGL error I was getting trying to run AM via Remote Desktop seems to be a Remote Desktop caused error because RD doesn't support OGL higher than 3.1. I have no @#$%^ clue why that would even be a limit when it should be using the local machines hardware or the host machines hardware and not determined by RD. So bottom line, AM should be able to run in all it's glory on my Intel based video laptop.

I wish AM was portable and not bound to a machine but rather the person using it. Since the sub version came out I have used AM far less since many times I'm on a laptop and not grinding away on my desktop. Curious if the decal issue is in v19?

New AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6850 upgrade && crash . . .
pixelplucker replied to a.quaihoi's topic in Open Forum
Before my sub ran out I tried to run AM via remote desktop on my laptop and got an ogl error with version 3. I think there is a bug with ogl 3 in AM. Granted the video is a built in intel 520 but I have other programs that handle the same version of ogl and higher versions of ogl and they run flawlessly on the intel video, just a little chunky but no render errors at all. Maybe the version implemented into AM had a bad distribution? -
I wish AM had a cap or close tool that would automatically close selected loops. Then the SVG importer would really shine. Just too tedius to hand click each cp to close a surface.

Your quadro should run AM fine but you may have to fiddle with which OGL in the AM settings depending on the card. If your shopping for a new card and none of your programs use double precision then save your money and get a descent desktop card. After extensive shopping around and Roger being happy with his AMD RX 480, I snagged one myself. It is really a rock solid card and good bang for the buck. It is basically the same chip and memory set as AMD's new workstation series WX7100 with a different bios and higher voltage requirements than it's workstation counterpart. For brands just stay away from the low end versions like Saphire and XFX or any that only offer a 2 year warranty. Major branks like MSI, Gigabyte or any that offer the 3 year warranty is the way to go and usually the same price. I picked up the gaming series with 8gb from Gigabyte. No matter what brand you pick, make sure the bios is upto date on it, Newegg and others might have good sales on slightly older models with older bios on them. Also use the driver from that supplier rather than directly from AMD and you should be good to go. As far as AMD go i have an all AMD system, it does play games really well but certainly not a number cruncher like a Xeon or high end i7 (6 or 8 core). Unfortunately I haven't renewed my AM sub in a while, been too busy with work stuff and no time to play, will when 19 is out.

Souvenir mock-up of the stadium for the 2018 FIFA World Cup

Looks great! You printing it with a castable resin or wax or doing laser sintering in metal? -
What if you just animate normally, make a copy of the project for backup then scale all keys back to 1/4 the total time or 1/3 then rescale the time back up in video post. Should give you the same extended frames right? Maybe less destructive that way too.
-
How is the point density on it? Some programs that export svg's tend to put a vertex per pixel ie 300 dpi is 300 points per inch. Generic eps is usually good too and most programs handle that. AI is an ok format but because there is so much garbage stuffed into the newer versions >5 they are not that usable for 3d modeling work or engraving.

A render style that would do a hold with no blends between frames would be cool. Take some the tedious out of the animation process. I did something similar doing a hold basically copying all frames and tucking one next to the next. Is it possible to just render at few frames then post scale them to the times making it choppy? Would that give the same effect?

After tons of shopping around I ended up with the RX 480 as Roger has. Great Suggestion Roger, Thanks! It is basically the same card as the WX7100 workstation card with higher wattage and only single precision. I am able to work around the dp issue with graphic settings within MOI and found out that MOI would not take advantage of dp at this time. I had to change camera type to parallel so there is no clipping plane and change the break angle for rendering shading so it better conforms to the iso lines. Nice not having the stutter that the GTX 950 started to give me nor the screen artifacts which seem to be driver related. Makes me suspect that maybe Nividia is deliberately forcing older cards to perform poorly in hopes people upgrade. That's my conspiracy theory and I'm stickin to it

Is the web gl on it easy to implement? I was thinking obj would be the way to go too.

Wondering if anyone has tried Marmoset Toolbag 3? Was thinking it could be a good real time render and viewer since they seem to have a player for ios, android and win. www.marmoset.co/toolbag/ I do quite a bit of t-shirt art for my customers, have some stock models I made in AM way back but it is a pain to render them out and email. In some cases sending pdf mockups isn't always practical especially if the pdf is large. Having a good webgl viewer might be a good secure answer. Also be cool if possible to have articulated models the clients can move around on their phones!

I thought that Netrender was included, No? I do agree that the rendering in AM is a little slow but in comparison to many packages in it's price class (not quality of application) it is far faster and better. With that being said I do most of my work not as animations but more for conceptual mockups for customers and typically use 4x4 aa which can be a killer when the clock is ticking. It would be nice to be able to port out to other programs for rendering but would the expense for development be realized with the current users? More customers = more revenue and faster, better development. AM shows it's age where cpu's and machines in general have become blazingly fast to the point that poly bloated sub-d modelers have gained traction. Splines aren't for everyone and can be a tough sell to prospective new users and even tougher to convert those that have used Sub-D surfaces. Where AM is strong is it's simplicity in rigging, texturing and animation. It is most vulnerable when it comes to spline modeling and rendering speed. I have suggested to Hash to do a Steam distribution which would certainly gain an audience. Maybe toss a trial version out there? Not sure what kinds of terms Steam has but the audience is massive and the price is good in that marketplace especially with all the Indy developers and the ability to port much of the content to Unity and others.

I appologize if I offend people, Adobe wasn't always bad but their products have become near malware if it wasn't for the eula no one reads. I can't in good concience watch people get roped in and have thier data exploited. Hopefully the new class action suites from the the state of CA will put them in check. I often see many bock at Autodesk here but though I am not a fan of their software licensing schemes and often cringe when the gobble up competition they don't build in backdoors or exploit their customers for profit.

Sorry to say if it's Adobe it's Garbage. Garbage company and never in my life did I have to block spam, telemarketers and replace my business debit card because a company can't keep their F@#$ data secure. Nuff said

Could have been the sound card with a bad driver. The sound card uses system memory and might have had a conflict. Usually you have a program crash and not a blue screen. Maybe the sound card is failing? Anyways glad you got it all working again.

Less than 30 days you can do a roll back to win 7. I stuck with 7 on my work system more because I questioned the stability of the drivers for 10 on a desktop with various hardware (home built machine). So far it runs as expected and extremely stable for a desktop though not a workstation. Win 10 in general isn't all that bad. I use it on my laptop and it runs pretty much the same programs just the same. Win 10 is a little snappier on loading some stuff and start up is quicker but not a whole lot of difference other than the pos interface they have that makes my laptop look like a giant phone. Like I said blue screens are hardware errors. It might be possible that the video driver isn't Win 10 compatible but that is unlikely unless you have a really old card. In my experience with blue screens they were always memory related. Usually when you have a bank of paired dims and one starts to fail under stress or has a flaw in one of the read/writes. Sometimes heat can be the trigger for memory failure on a failing stick. This is the one I use: memtest86.com Burn the iso to a dvd or cd, set your machine to boot from the cd/dvd first in the bios and let it run over night.
-
Blue screen is typical of a memory error and not a software issue. I would do a memory test and see if you have a failing dimm. Good chance that is the problem. Though not an advocate for Win 10 it wouldn't cause a blue screen. I haven't renewed my sub again yet, waiting for a job that will justify it. Just haven't had the time to get back to splining here. Love to migrate it to my laptop where I would use it more where I could relax and work vrs my work machine. Thinking of going for the non expiring version when 19 comes out but I don't have a dvd drive on the laptop. Not sure how that would work. Hope your feeling better!

Nice work. How long until you finish the other 998?

Shaded and wire frame is not looking the way it did
pixelplucker replied to Pitcher's topic in Open Forum
You might be able to change it under display settings. Look for something for Performance rather than energy saving. I think by default they try for longer battery life (lesser video card).
