  6. This little modeling project has been quite educational and the inevitability of learning to rig is becoming apparent. I have gained a deeper appreciation for CP weighting. The model is behaving as well as it can considering what I have put it through. Here is the first attempt at the first of about 6 figured in the "Set" of Army Men, and the reference photo I used for the pose.
  7. You have extruded an outline. The face now has to be enclosed with CP's and splines to make face patches. Have you gone through the ToaA:M tutorials, yet? There are a number of very good tutorials on basic splinemanship on the forum. Spline continuity is an issue as well for closing in your logo. Roberts suggestion is good if you are familiar with a vector art program. It will be a time saver because of the number of CP's you have in our outline will require alot of"sewing" up.   8. Thank you so very much, David. During the time I was waiting for a response, it dawned on me what I had done. Periodically I get glimpses of how A:M works and flashes of understanding come upon me bit by bit. While I was waiting, I got caught up in fixing my mistake. I opened Dex and did a save as "Dex2". I took the uniform from the bad Army Man model and "dressed" DEX2" with it. I then assigned the uniform's mesh to the rig corresponding to the colors from the Dex mesh. Then went back and deleted the original Dex mesh that was under the uniform. I just now finished up and logged back onto the forum and low and behold, you had fixed the problem the right way, but by then I had already done my workaround patch fix. I'm sure your way was faster, David, But my understanding of A:M is a little more thorough now by fixing my mistake. When I was first going through ToaA:M a year and a half ago I did the section on adding a rig to Thom. There was a small problem with an IK setting in one of the elbows of the 2001 rig and I couldn't get it to work right. The mystery of it all traumatized me so anything to do with rigging I approach with trepidation. (That squetch tongue rig you helped with had my head spinning for a week, and I still haven't quite figured it out.) I will be working up to tackling rigging as time goes on. I LOVE this program. Thanks again, David. Thanks Shelton, My confidence in modeling grows daily. ('cept for that rigging thing ) Gene and I are collaborating again and I'm helping out with some modeling. I'm in the preliminary stages of a small project on my own, but it's a back burner kind of thing. Did I mention that I LOVE this program?
  9. It seemed like a simple thing to do. I needed a set of army men for a small bit in an upcoming project. I decided to cobble together a primary model using a couple of existing models off of the Extra's CD, make copies in different poses for 6 different army men I took parts of the costume from "Russian Batman" and put them on Dex. In order to keep the patch count down I deleted the parts of Dex's mesh that was now under clothes, but kept his "Rig". So far so good I assigned the new mesh to the bones. I began to make a pose but when I moved the right foot target null, everything moved the way it was supposed to, but there were a couple of CP's that I had missed assigning and they stayed put when I moved the target null. I deleted the pose. and went back to the model window and assigned my errant CP's. When I started another pose the fool target null no longer moved the foot or controlled the leg. I tries several constraints but couldn't get them to work right. How do I get the Foot Target Null to control things again? I've attached the model. thanks, Myron Army_Man.mdl

  11. Thanks everybody for your help. I have send an email to Alain through his website. I evidently have a compulsion to track down the source of the glow. Thank you, Gerry for your offer, and I'll take you up on it for future use if your kindness extends that far. If not I understand. I think Gene is going to stick with the "Myron" Santa, just to mock me, now that we have the glow under control. (Thanks again, Mark) I think you will enjoy the upcoming video, it won't be the run of the mill Christmas video, but then you wouldn't expect anything less from Spleengene Animations.

  13. Thank You Paul, Ken, and Mark. Setting the Diffuse Falloff to 100% works, thanks Mark. But the question still pesters me, where does the glow come from in the first place? Is there some kind of embedded thing happening? I had just started the Anzovin Mastering materials tutorials a few days ago, but I had to stop in the middle of the Happy Face Vid and take two aspirin and lie down for a while. I'll start again in another few days after the swelling of my brain goes down. Thanks again, guys. {Pardon my interruption, Dr. Watson, but I need a word with Mr Holmes. . . . . . . }
  14. I've been working with Gene, the Spleenage, on his problem with putting the head of the "Myron" model on the body of the Santa Lion model from the Extra's DVD. File info says the model was made by Hash Inc, and Last Modified by Steve Sappington. Though I've seen his name about, and have admired his work, I don't recall having noticed his presence on the forum since I've been here (June 08). The Santa Lion Model has a glow about the whole model when rendered. Both in the model window with progressive render and in a final render to file. In the Materials folder in the PWS there is a rimlight listed as a material. I've gone through this model step by step deleting things, changing things to "not set" My question is this: Where is the glow coming from and from whence is it generated? I looked at the materials attributes, but I don't know enough about materials yet to be able to tell. It is most likely some elementary global setting somewhere, but I don't know where to look and it is a total mystery to me. I'm posting the model for anyone who will take a look at it. It's from the Extra's DVD, so if I'm violating any rules or proprietaries, I'll take it back down. Thank You for you help. Myron SantaLion.zip

  18. I made a model of a simple power switch. I created a pose slider for the switch that involved rotating the handle 90 degrees. I works just fine except that as the slider, and the handle that it controls, moves, the scale of the handle shrinks by about 50% at about 50% then scales back to normal at 100%. Th only thing I did when creating the pose slider was rotate the handle. I'm using 15G but I ran into this problem some months ago when working on the "Boogie Meter" for Gene's Two Trains video, so I don't think it has anything to do with the new release. Probably something stupid I'm doing or not doing, but here's a few picks and the model. thanks. Power_Switch.mdl
