I've been taking another run at bump maps. I made a bump stencil and put blur on it in Corel. I put it on as a bump map on the model and did a render lock on the model and it looked fine, but when I did a render to file it barely showed as a shadow trace on the surface. Is it because I have a material on the Vase? Why would it render one way in render lock and another in render to file?

Thank You Rob, it's easy for me to get bogged down in that manual, I should read it more.

Nice work. Somebody must have given you a picture of me to use as a rotoscope.

I have been trying to learn how make materials from scratch. Shooting for a material that would look like a slab of Marble Stone. I will be continuing to do that, but in the meantime I took a break and played with the Darksim plugin. 15 minute render for 1 frame, but there are 12 different materials in the image.

The one with two swords looks like he might be a Ninja monkey!

Rob, I missed your earlier response to my request for information. I'll stick to learning the tricks within A:M, when I get that under control I'll look outside. Thanks again

Great beginning! Gene likes it, and he's an expert on rats.

Rob, could you give more info on the Enhance A:M pack you mentioned? or maybe a website?

It was probably a glitch. It had nothing to do with any of the rendering possibilities. When I closed A:M and restarted, it was gone. A while back I had inadvertently turned off Show decals and found out that there was a keyboard shortcut that I didn't know but had accidentally used. I was hoping that this was the same kind of thing, because it looked cool, but I'm pretty sure now that it was just a glitch. Thanks you for your help, though. Happy Splining, Myron

DJBREIT, that's something like it, but The splines had the same color as the shaded part only a little darker and no cp's

That's just the setting colors that I have for my windows desktop. Right click on your desktop, select properties, and click on the advanced buttons in lower right corner. Then play.

I had closed A:M and when I opened it again things were back to normal. Too bad, I wish I had taken a screen capture of a view that had part of the patches shaded W/wireframe and the rest of the model just wireframe and no CP's. I was a very cool look Oh well. Thanks Luuk.

I was modeling a jacket and in the fever of splination I inadvertantly hit a key or combination of keys that turned my view from shaded to shaded wireframe with no CP"s. The wireframe is the same color as the model. To repeat in a redundant fashion: What did I do? How can I undo it? How can I do it again? Thanks.

Thanks for this, Largento. It looks really great. Is the 'piping' connected or stitched to the 'apron' or just placed there?

Jason, Did I somehow miss that new posting of the ogre file?

I don't know if anybody would like to make use of this alphabet, but here it is if anyone wants it. Today's alphabet model is brought to you by the letter "T". . . . . with Mucky Brass Material applied in this jpg. EDIT: Moved the Zip file toHere

I love A:M and this forum. I check it for new posts more often than I check my email, and I check my email several times a day. I've been slowly making images for my website upgrade and learning about materials a bit. Because I plan on using the "Christie" font throughout my website, and want to have the lettering look a little more "3d" I modeled the Alphabet which has taken me some time. But it has helped me gain a higher "spline consciousness". I'm very much looking forward to the time when I get caught up enough with my "day job" projects to actually try my hand at animating something. Here are a couple of the images I've come up with for the site. There is the main "enter" page, and a close up of the navigation button. Also an image work in progress.

Robcat also posted this response to a request for a face tutorial , this is the famous "Cooper" tutorial that many consider to be the quintessential.
