Jason Simonds Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 If there is any file types you would like to be able to upload as attachments to the A:M forums please post them here. I will look over the list and see what can be added. Quote

Darkwing Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Don't forget TGA seeing most of us use TGAs quite frequently Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted December 5, 2010 Hash Fellow Posted December 5, 2010 I'd prefer to see the images that will display in the page more or less limited to the ones that compress like JPG and PNG. Maybe huge things like TGAs could be uploadable but appear as a download link. Quote

Maybe huge things like TGAs could be uploadable but appear as a download link. I'm with Robcat. Anything but jpg, gif and png should only be a downloadable link. They should not appear as images (or the page load times would be huge). Still though, you can upload zip files. What's wrong with zipping up whatever you want to upload? That makes the file sizes smaller for anyone who wants to download them too. Quote
John Bigboote Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Png is not really a compressed format at all, is it? BTW-Anyone messed with the animated png format yet? Quote
HomeSlice Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Png is not really a compressed format at all, is it? PNG is a compressed format employing a type of lossless compression. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Netw...phics#Animation Quote
Jason Simonds Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 Lets keep this going Lets see what people think. you should be able to upload mp4 anyways i changed it a while ago. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted December 6, 2010 Admin Posted December 6, 2010 Thanks Jason! Here is a list of the extension/files we can currently post: .act text/plain .aiff audio/x-aiff .bmp image/x-MS-bmp .cho text/plain .css text/css .doc application/msword .exe application/octet-stream .gif image/gif .gz application/x-gzip .hqx application/mac-binhex40 .htm application/octet-stream .html application/octet-stream .ico image/ico .jpeg image/jpeg .jpg image/jpeg .mat text/plain .mdl text/plain .mov video/quicktime .mp3 audio/x-mpeg .mp4 video/quicktime .mpg video/mpeg .pdf application/pdf (can view via html in A:M) .php application/octet-stream .png image/png .ppt application/powerpoint .prj text/plain .ps application/postscript .psd application/octet-stream .ram audio/x-pn-realaudio .rtf text/richtext .swf application/x-shockwave-flash (can view via html in A:M) .tar application/x-tar .tiff image/tiff .txt text/plain .viv video/vivo .wav audio/x-wav .wma audio/x-ms-wma .wmv video/x-msvideo .xml text/xml Note: Files that will open in A:M directly/indirectly are indicated in bold. Additional File Extensions for consideration: I am tempted to suggest adding the .PXD image format used with the online paint program PIXLR Image Editor. I mention it here only for those interested in checking it out. It can export to JPG and BMP as well as PNG (with transparency). A program such as this might be useful as a standard image editing program capable for newbies capable of creating shareable layered images for use in A:M as decals etc. That it is cross platform and accessible online is a plus. I'm sure there are other programs just as worthy but this may be the best/most accessible I've seen to date. No A:M Users are using this format (yet) so right now it's probably too early to add this extension. Here's a little bit more information about the PXD image format. There are some A:M file formats that aren't currently postable (some are text files): .cam A:M Camera file .cmp A:M Composite file .lib A:M Library file .lit A:M Light file .pre A:M Rendersetting Preset Files (enhanced file format as of v16 that saves render settings) .prjb (useful only if a reliable HA:MR viewer is still available) .pst A:M Post Effect etc. I haven't listed image files that can't be displayed in a browser but others have identified most of them. I haven't listed importable/exportable model formats as most of these should likely be compressed into a zip file prior to uploading. Quote
jakerupert Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 all AM files should be postable. I always found it quite strange, that you couldn`t post tga files. Compressed or not, only the filesize matters. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted December 6, 2010 Admin Posted December 6, 2010 I seem to recall trying to get .TGA images to load before but couldn't get the right MIME type assigned to allow it. Here is a general list of MIME types that are processed by IPBoards: http://www.utoronto.ca/webdocs/HTMLdocs/Bo...b/mimetype.html A quick Google search turned up a more current listing: http://www.w3schools.com/media/media_mimeref.asp I didn't see Targa on this list either. I think EXR falls into the same category of files generally not accessed by web browsers. Perhaps the MIME type might be acceptable as something like: application/tga Edit: TGA works! Thanks Jason. all AM files should be postable. It's hard to argue with good logic. AM.tga Quote
mouseman Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 A couple others: xls - excel odt - open office text odc - open office calc Quote
Jason Simonds Posted December 23, 2010 Author Posted December 23, 2010 Here is an updated list of file types: I also added the yellow A:M guy to A:M file types .act text/plain .aiff audio/x-aiff .bmp image/x-MS-bmp .cam text/plain .cho text/plain .cmp text/plain .css text/css .doc application/msword .eps application/postscript .exe application/octet-stream .gif image/gif .gz application/x-gzip .hqx application/mac-binhex40 .htm application/octet-stream .html application/octet-stream .ico image/ico .jpeg image/jpeg .jpg image/jpeg .lib text/plain .lit text/plain .mat text/plain .mdl text/plain .mov video/quicktime .mp3 audio/x-mpeg .mp4 video/quicktime .mpg video/mpeg .pdf application/pdf .php application/octet-stream .png image/png .ppt application/powerpoint .pre text/plain .prj text/plain .prjb text/plain .ps application/postscript .psd application/octet-stream .pst text/plain .ram audio/x-pn-realaudio .rtf text/richtext .swf application/x-shockwave-flash .tar application/x-tar .tga image/tga .tiff image/tiff .txt text/plain .viv video/vivo .wav audio/x-wav .wma audio/x-ms-wma .wmv video/x-msvideo .xml text/xml .zip application/zip Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted December 23, 2010 Hash Fellow Posted December 23, 2010 Is it possible to define some more smiley-type images, that are not actual smileys but are A:M interface buttons? So when someone is lost on what the "Patch Select" button is we can just insert the image without having to screen cap anything. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted December 23, 2010 Admin Posted December 23, 2010 Is it possible to define some more smiley-type images, that are not actual smileys but are A:M interface buttons? They could be added but do we really want all of the A:M interface buttons in the listing of Emoticons? (There are quite a few of them) I know you would use them so that alone makes it worth investigating. Here is an updated list of file types: I also added the yellow A:M guy to A:M file types Thanks Jason! Quote

So when someone is lost on what the "Patch Select" button is we can just insert the image without having to screen cap anything. Like .cho file look like the red chair and cone and so on? I can look into that i just have to make gif images for all of them. I changed all A:M files on the list from the smiley and there is no smiley images anymore. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted December 23, 2010 Admin Posted December 23, 2010 I can look into that i just have to make gif images for all of them. Thanks Jason. I know you are a busy guy so put us to work on them. If we collect them all individually in a .zip file would that work best for you? Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted December 23, 2010 Hash Fellow Posted December 23, 2010 o we really want all of the A:M interface buttons in the listing of Emoticons? Perhaps they could reside in the extended set that you see with "show all" Quote
Admin Rodney Posted December 23, 2010 Admin Posted December 23, 2010 Perhaps they could reside in the extended set that you see with "show all" Got that part. Definitely wouldn't put them in the main dropdown. I was looking to see if there was any extensibility to allow a tertiary set or restrict emoticons to specific forum areas. I'm not sure what the limit to an emoticon set is. (25? 50?) Also: If I understand this correctly the text will insert the equivalent text in place of the icon where it cannot appear. Example:  instead of the emoticon in the text. So forum text with extensive emoticons will be laced with :amicons: of various types. To add a link click on . To Make your text bold select your text and click . Hmmm... maybe that extensibility could be added via the html/css? Quote
Jason Simonds Posted December 23, 2010 Author Posted December 23, 2010 Yeah a zip of the images you would like would be great. But you can not pick the images shows comes a file attachment type that is hard set, Just like the mime type. Next to the sub/super set drop down is a list of smiles you can use. I think I can update that too. So if you guys have some you like post them. Quote
Admin Rodney Posted December 23, 2010 Admin Posted December 23, 2010 Adding this for discussion's sake... Hash Inc has a pretty good collection of Menu Navigation Gifs from the old HTML help files. Here is a collection of them from '98: Later versions have a considerably more extensive set. Note: The original images are already separate. Quote
