Admin Rodney Posted July 29, 2006 Admin Posted July 29, 2006 I like it. Very nice. Are you creating this for any particular reason (other than the enjoyment of it)? Working on a project/animation for instance? Each post brings a new level of detail and quality and I'm curious how far you plan to push it. Quote
Zaryin Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 It looks great to me. Everytime I see a mechanical model like this I wish my skills were better in mechanical . Great job so far. Quote
ddustin Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Everytime I see a mechanical model like this I wish my skills were better in mechanical And all of us mechanicals, wish we were better at organic........ update with a few more tweaks and a total of 6,005patches [attachmentid=18922] It looks really good. Can you post a wire-frame? David Quote
Eric2575 Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 It has finally happened, the two warring factions have been uncovered through a simple slip on an innocent graphics art forum - Mechs vs. Organics!!!!!!!!! Run for your splines!!!! Ahem...Nice work on the Apache. Now for the obligatory wireframe. Where'd you hide all them patches? Quote

Run for your splines!!!! Ahem...Nice work on the Apache. Now for the obligatory wireframe. Where'd you hide all them patches? It could be the: Mechs vs. Orgs Mechanicals vs. Organicals Mechans vs. Organs The Apache doesn't look large enough to have 6,000 patches. Quote
case Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 well you can not say that by looking at a picture i mean think about it Quote
ddustin Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 well you can not say that by looking at a picture i mean think about it Case, I have thought about it, in fact I think about it every day. Patch count is a concern as you get into larger projects. Let's just say that you can get a feel for the number of patches by the size and detail of the model. There a number of short-cuts one can employ to create surface details instead of modeling them. Look at some of the vehicles Jin Kazama creates... with very few patches. The model looks very good, it just seems like it should not have taken 6k patches. That doesn't mean it is in any way deficient or less of a work. If he posts a wire frame, there may be suggestions as to where he can be more frugal. This WIP forum is intended for critiques, so it is expected that other A:M users will help each other out. I do it with models and animations all the time. The users of this forum have a very keen eye and can point out anomalies we might otherwise miss. "." "," ";" are keys too.... Quote

case Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 i mean in one spot of the copter there could be 2000 splines just in the glass if seprate on the glass like the alien on alien song how they made the alien it was made seprate and the put on the whole model Quote
