With the right settings, FakeAO can look just about like real AO soft lighting. You might give that a try.

You can often retrieve abandoned web material via the WayBack Machine at www.Archive.org In this case... it works: http://web.archive.org/web/20050313212731/...etut/Flame1.htm

If you could get that to flutter more... That reminds me of a play I saw somewhere. The onstage "fire" was really strips of paper or cloth being wafted up by a stream of air. To avoid burning the theater down, I suppose.

Say......what???? Where may I get a copy????? I got mine early for being a Kickstarter supporter. I'm sure Mark will create some way for general sales after eh gets done with the convention circuit.

Installing 32-bit A:M if you already have 64-bit A:M
robcat2075 replied to robcat2075's topic in New Users
Yes I am running the 64 bit, I can't get into the 32bit version it is asking for a code. Remember, you need to copy the master0.lic file from your 64-bit version to your 32-bit version. Then it will run. and save that master0.lic file somewhere safe, too, to back it up. -

Can you still run the A:M you were using before? The 64-bit A:M -

How do I get to that because it does not come up when I right click on it. That address up there is not where you save the 32-bit installer to. You can save the installer (the file you download from the Hash FTP site) to any convenient place on your hard drive. When you RUN that installer file it will show several typical installer screens you click thru until you get to this one If it doesn't have that "Destination Folder" address, make it that address before you click "Install" -
I emailed Jason about vintageFilms.hash.com being down, but it doesn't look like he's been able to fix it yet.

Nightwalk should be on the vintagefilms.hash.com site but that's down right now.

You don't need a code to download the installer. Go to that ftp link I put up. Right-click on AM_32BIT.EXE, do "Save Link As" -
You have put your finger on the true struggle of character animation. I wish there were a short answer. To me it's, it's all about mass. Not just the weight of the character when he steps on the scale but the weight and mass of every body part and how the body moves all those connected parts around. The best starting point is bouncing ball. It is the simplest weight and mass to learn to move around and to learn how to use the the timeline to get it right. Remember when Holmes was doing bouncing balls? Watch my notes on that and then do that first bouncing ball and lets see what you get. No squash and stretch, just bouncing ball.

Did you get the rendering process working? You definitely want rendering. -
Holmes just made a nice list of various people's How-To tuts... http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=368642 But after you've done all the TAoA:M modeling tuts, and watched some of those others that you find interesting, think of a simple model that you want to make, start a WIP thread for it and when you get stuck ask a question. That's the best way to start making the stuff stick.

Simple mistakes are the best kind.

If you could make a small test PRJ by copying examples of both windows into a new chor side by side, that would make a good AMReport.

In the tutorials link in my signature is a piece about using a distortion box to bend text.

The important part of what you're saying (if I understand correctly) is that the stride length is exactly 1/2 of the full cycle length. In A:M parlance, yes. It is the distance from, say, a left footprint to a right footprint, which is half of a walk cycle. (A full cycle would be left to right to left) It may be that is an ambiguous term. In looking up definitions of the noun "stride" I find that it may be intended as one step (in humans) or as the complete cycle of motion (in horses).

I like the title design on that, too! -

Wow, that's got to be one of your most elaborate tinkers ever! And that must be some pre-Newton dynamics simulation at work there too. -
You are right that I only touched on it briefly and I do intend to make a bigger mention about it in the actual walk tut. However, that's all there is to it really. Set it to measure the distance from heel-to-heel at the contact pose and that will be the most accurate way to use it. It measures one "stride" and that's something that is clearest in contact pose, the moment when the heel hits the ground, when both feet are on the ground.

I recall, at Nortel, once spending half an hour with a woman from another department getting just the right shade of purple background for something i was doing for her. Then the next day she drags her manager by and starts shrieking about how I put the wrong color on her project.

I attached a camera to the top of one of my metal cloth crashing cars so you can take the plunge... CrashCamH1200.mov You can see more falling cars in my "Crunch!" thread.
