  1. I really like the lighting and the attributes you have for the metal skin.
  2. Is it just me? I can't make heads or tails out of this?
  3. Towards the end, the light source seems to be going through the back wall and illuminating the scene from the outside, casting shadows and all. It gives me the impression of a translucent wall. Impression vs render times = fantastic! Now you've gone and done it, I'm gonna have to pick up that book.
  4. Please share the lighting details and maybe a screencap of the chor setup. Notice I did not ask for a video tutorial
  5. You are very skilled. It was a pleasure to watch your tutorials. Please post more often. Eric
  6. Hey, that looks great. Looks like you put quite a bit of work into that. So you actually have Thom on your bookshelf, eh
  7. No need to model all the stars, just use a dome with a star projection. Better yet, if you are stationary, just use a star map as a rotoscope on the camera. If you give us more details on what your scene needs to look like and whether or not you need to pan the camera across a star field, then we can help more.
  8. Sounds like you need to flip the normals on the patch that has the hair growing inward. Hair grows in the direction of the normals. Point normals out and the hair grows out. To see the normals, hold "shift" and hit the "1" KEY. To flip normals, select the patch that needs flipping and hit the "f" key.
  9. Not bad for a vampire. I don't think I'll ever have the patience to tinker with radiosity though. One test, two hours, oh darn, that didn't come out as expected...Second test, two + hours, hmmm, still not quite what I was thinking...After 24 hours, hmmm, not being very productive. Did you go through Yves radiosity tuts to get you started?
  10. You've done a great job with that. Wish you would post more.
  11. There is no average patch count for models. Everyone has their own style and detail level of modeling. The more detail, the higher the patch count. Take a look at the models in your Library file to get an idea. Also, the better you get at modeling, the lower the patch count will get.
  12. Sounds like you already have the Hardware bug. Long ago when I first joined here, there were many discussions about hardware and AM speed. I seem to recall that a more expensive graphics card did not improve AM's performance over an average card. A faster system, sure, but not just a super dooper graphics card. It may be different now, but I don't think so. My card is a GeForce 7950 GT. I use it mainly to drive both of my 1920x1200 monitors. But again, I think your problem lies elsewhere. Did you check the main problem areas we outlined for you above? If so, why don't you put your model in a zip file and post it here to see if anyone else can duplicate the issue and come up with a solution? Eric
  13. Two other things besides what Rob mentioned come to mind. First, if you have mirror mode enabled, that will slow things down - happy face with blue vertical hash button. Second, disable "show decals" when you are modeling - it's the red button with the white star on it, or simply press control "d".
  14. We must stop Luuk, this is the beginning of the end, where flying mechanical beast fill the sky and take over the world. Must stop Luuk, must stop Luuk, must sto...
  15. I change stuff in my system all the time, drives, video cards, etc. Running into the same problem of "this serial number..." whenever I made changes got old, so I contacted support. They were able to bind the Hash subscription to my machine, no matter how much I changed the components. I don't remember the walkthrough, but contact support and they will help you.
  16. I would guess it might have something to do with the refraction value of the glass - that is if you set a value for it.
  17. Great minds think alike - I do exactly the same thing - copy the part I'm focusing on, mess with it until I either break it or like it enough to replace the original with it. Nice work, Al.
  18. Glad you decided to work on this again. I really like it. Ok, no one asked yet: AM TerraForm Utility?
  19. Wait till you try and model them into the sphere
  20. I already knew you were a Master Modeler, but the speed at which you turn out these pieces is what sets you apart from the crowd. My hat off to you Al. Eric
  21. Roger: I looked for my three toed tutorial and found it, but it's long and boring since it's one of my first tutorials ever from a long time ago. I'll remake it and post it on Youtube soon. It will help you not only with the foot, but with overall modeling and smooth skin. I had a recent hard drive crash on me, so I have to reinstall my screen cap software among other things. It looks like you've been pretty patient about finishing this model anyway Eric
