  1. I think it's more that you are an excellent observer, rather than copycat - This is both exhibited in this piece as well as in the pieces you've done with water effects. The originality comes in your awareness & insight in animating a real situation - not everyone realizes that life experiences, and real people behavior is very interesting - people can relate to it - comics know this intimately and so do film makers & novelists.
  2. That is really good - amazing for a first piece because it has a lot of depth, complexity - yes a little crude in terms of a finished piece - but your story, acting, camera work are very interesting - and you handled so much detail - Do you come from a film background?
  3. Charming, charming sound track - perfect - beautiful coloring & design - looks like a winner for sure.
  4. Looks terrific Mr. Will
  5. Absolutely fabulous - I am stunned by the excellent animation - truly gripping & believable acting with insightful gestures - combined with terrific wonderful humor - perfect camera work & angles - everything! - Amazing Amazing Amazing. Double Wow!
  6. Yes - solar flares like that - a static image would be striking - c'mon you can fake the locations - who would know? Of course, animated would be even better. Could even have the lighting change based on the flare ups (watch those poor little planets on the ground plane sizzle, burn a hole in the ground plane, fall thru , etc ). & you could composite the animated results so that you could have reasonable render times AND I have some lava flow & forest fire wav files that I would love to contribute. EDIT: Johnl3d where are you ? - 1 solar flare effect needed pronto - oh wait - he might use it to barbeque some pork chops, never mind)
  7. I'm intrigued by your images - terrific - How about some solar flares?
  8. Very strong image - nicely done.
  9. You may also find that it might be easier to rotate Snaggy-boy with the root bone first so that he's upside down, but keep the ik legs on, as well as ik arms on - ie make him walk in the air - I haven't really played with this but by exploring the options, I'm sure you'll figure out what works best for you.
  10. You need to switch ON the IK arms setup. Assuming you have the Pose sliders in view - It's found under the Rig tab, expand the Setup "folder" and change IK Arms setup to ON. And depending on what you want to do - you may need to turn off (set to 0) the Balance, Balance Rigid, Steady poses -and not sure also - but may need to turn off IK legs
  11. Oh he looks like thuch a nice luvely fellow - all thpotty like that - nice job, Will. (love the lithp idea too, Greg)
  12. I did kinda suspect that you might be going for a sweaty look - so it wasn't too far off - Maybe beads of sweat -painted with bump or displacement ? - could even animate them dripping. I think varying the facial tone will also help communicate the flushed look as well. (also see Schiltzy for good variation in face coloring)
  13. It is excellent - characters are so appealing! Love the environment. As for the last still - if it's supposed to be a publicity shot - I would change the way Boris's nose is in front of Jimbo - it's a bit confusing to read the silhouettes of both characters - however if it's just a frame in the animation - then it doesn't matter. Really a wonderful story/concept idea as well.
  14. Really neat model. Looks like a happy, friendly barbarian. A good drinking buddy? I like how you've got such a nice rugged pore/bump texture on the skin - I think the specularity is a bit high (perhaps reduce size? intensity?), as he looks a bit metallic. Maybe some variation in color on the skin might be interesting, as he appears monotone. - ie could add areas of patchy color for cheeks, nose, tops of knuckles, a scar or two. Might have to tone down the intensity of red color of the overall skin tho, to add more localized patchy color. Dusan Kastelic's Perk is an excellent example of patchy areas of coloring. Yep - Definitely a high class Pillager!
  15. I'm wondering if one of your face poses for the box is causing the problem - it looks like there are 2 slightly different expressions on the box. Perhaps you are manipulating some cp's that you didn't think you were.
  16. It has a great look, great sound quality, very nice animation, overall very well done. Love the simplicity of the characters & their readability. BUT pace is pretty painful for an old person. It felt to me like there was way too much time spent on set up of the characters - but I'm guessing that was done to draw the kids in without them realizing what they were getting into. I like very much using the door to introduce characters (things start to pick up in interest there) I am definitely not the right person to critique how this would be received by 3rd & 4th graders - hopefully the teachers in this community can give better feedback with respect to that. Very impressive effort.
  17. Excellent - I've always loved your style - so much so that I bit the bullet and finally installed qt 7 just so I could see it (and motivated me to I figure out how to have both qt6 pro work as well) You have excellent gestures on the cowboy - very believable, natural - the kid is good too - but cowboy is better.
  18. Ohhhh! How could I have forgotten the most important plagarism of them all! From the GREAT JOHNL3D website: http://johnl.inform.net/pages/10material11.htm Yes! I used John's Misty Exploding Sprites from the Hash CD project almost verbatim for the blowing up of John's head in the beginning titles. Appropriate, doncha think? (I know, I know - Enough with the confession crap already - Feeling a little queasy, are we?)
  19. The sound does not seem low to me at all - might even be too loud - but it would be real hard to evaluate this (and ridiculous as I am sorta losing my hearing). Who knows how differently I've got my speakers turned up, or my settings on volume control compared to your system. I like the rendering - very lovely - but I also am not getting a sense of new fallen snow - could use some irregularity and light fluffy texture on those smooth city sidewalks - and to make the scene a little more interesting (but it's plenty interesting enough) - perhaps the dog can leave some tiny footprints in the snow
  20. That is very definitely interesting - wow, terrific stuff!
  21. and even more stealing that I just remembered - the teeth are from "HER" off the Hash 2004? CD. And the eyeballs are modified (simplified) from someone's generic model - which I can't remember - maybe Colin's? uber eye? It's really tricky to change when stealing has become such a rewarding way of life. John no one has any photos of me. Maybe because I don't have any friends? That's always been a mystery to me.
  22. ooops - I knew I couldn't be trusted.
  23. With respect to the hat - perhaps you could have him grab it as it flies from his head - ie like catching it - rather than have it go out of scene. and with respect to the lighting outside the window - I saw the blue render first and thought beautiful - but then when I went back to scene 5 - I saw the brownish (which is also nice) - probably the bluish (ao)communicates winter better - but the brown is moodier & more grungy. Also it would be nice if perhaps the dog could have long shadows to make it more dramatic. glad to see you resurrecting this.
  24. I remember this - I'm glad to see you're getting back to it - it's definitely worth picking up again.
  25. AND the absolutely worstest of sins is that I stole the music from the web of a sample of the Wiggles tune "I'm a Cow". http://www.familyonboard.com/TT_WigglesThe.html and the Jerry Lewis voice clip at the end is from daily wave web site. http://www.dailywav.com/ If it's any consolation, my just desserts for these sins will be that I would never be able to distribute this work. Heh heh. I had my fun.
