The deadline for completing your Rear Window segment has been extended (to Sept 30.) If you need more time to render, you got it! If you need more time to animate, you got it! If you didn't even get started and still want to do a bit for the project, you got it!

Since we have forum projects fresh on our mind maybe we could brainstorm here on what form the next one might take. What's been suggested so far... 1) Next Room. A character walks in to a room, does something and then either he or some other character exits to the other side. Then the camera shifts to pick up what happens in the next room. (I'm not real keen on this one anymore) 2) Rear Window. Peering into rooms in a hi-rise office or apartment complex. Things we've done before: 1) Ani-Jam. We had some limited success with where you pick up exactly with whatever the last animator did, but many people found this difficult. 2) Pass th…

When this community project was started I volunteered to do the production work. That was a while ago. Too long ago, and for that I apologize. When I originally got the submissions (from five of you) I was struck with, in my opinion, a problem. While the submissions were great in their own right, they didn't come together to tell a story. I had the sense that, if put out there in the wilds for all to see, if tagged with Rear Window, by Alfred Hitchcock, there would be some flak received over the fact that, other than the set, it really didn't have a plot coming close to the movie. So I set about devising some animation of my own that I could stitch into the submission…

I need to apologize to Paul Harris and everyone who has contributed to this forum project as I have not fulfilled my commitments to it. I'm afraid my ability to focus on and follow-thru on complicated endeavors like this has declined greatly over the past year. If Paul would like to recruit someone else who could put this together sooner than I would I think that would be a fine idea. The project can be completed as intended. The task is fairly straight forward: -Collect all the contributor segments. Aside from the uploaded ones, Dhar Jabouri has a nearly finished segment. I've inquired with him again and he may be able to retrieve it from his computer whi…

I'm rendering someone's Rear Window segment. I seem to recall that there should be a texture where I've marked the red Xs. What is missing there and how do I get it back?

Don't worry, "Rear Window" has not disappeared! Paul has become quite busy lately and so have I so I don't anticipate this beginning to be edited until at least January. But it will get done, just like "BUS STOP" took a while, but got done none-the-less. So if you got a segment submitted, be patient and keep it under your hat. If you started something but didn't finish, now's your chance to finish! If you were curious but never quite got started... get started! Even a brief segment of a few seconds will be welcome. Have no clue what "Rear Window" is even about? Well, get clued in here!

OK, so I have set up an ftp account on the a business site of mine. in order to control what is going onto the account I want to have each person submitting projects to do the following: email me (pharris430 at gmail dot com) I'll send you the url, and logon info. Zip your projects up, name them with your name. It would also be helpful to include a text file with titles, credits etc.

Steve posted a teaser render in the main thread. Here's a WIP shaded render of what we have so far for animation. No bells and whistles (i.e. no hair), and a lot of the walking at the beginning will be edited out, but this sets us up for the rest of the animation. 2 weeks to go! And a lot of animation to go! I'm glad Steve picked up a bunch of render nodes! Blocking1_Shaded7.mov

Where do the files need to be sent to? I missed that somehow.. Also ...I have a very short entry and it's over 2 gb zipped.....!! I know you mentioned leaving time 2 sec. for transitional animation but that will not be possible for me. Mike C

That's right folks, we are now, officially getting this old boat underway. You will need to do a few things to get started. First and foremost, you most watch the intro video that robcat put together (many thanks Robert). This video will bring you up to speed on the set, how to use it, and how to render, submit etc. Very well done. View it Then you need to get your very own copy of the project. Here it is: RearWindow_Assets_B.zip So with much anticipation and ballyhoo, I declare this project off to the races. [Edit] Uploaded the project to the forum, instead of ftp...

Was wandering around here last night and saw this section. Then just now tonight I read an article that includes a video that composites just about every shot of the courtyard in the Hitchcock film. Might be useful in getting ideas for some animations. http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2012/0...sic_video_.html Within the article is another link to the editor's website, which includes a few frame blowups. Apologies if you've already seen this.

Over in this response, I discussed the possibility of people collaborating in pairs on the Rear Window project. Reply here if you have any ideas about what it would take to be able to successfully collaborate with someone, and if you would be interested in collaborating with another A:M user on a Rear Window short. (That would not prevent you from doing one separately if you so desired.) Remember that there are some collaboration tools like Skype for video chat and desktop sharing, SVN and GIT and Mercurial for sharing revisions. You could also share a WIP forum post to coordinate. Are there any other tools that would help?
