This leapin' lobster pup demonstrates TSM2's great tail lag feature in the tail and antenae secondary movement. Manual animation of these was minimal. The body is controlled by one bone, and each leg was animated with only the foot control. Rigging took one evening, and has held up well to all types of movement. For the body I used one body segment with four leg pairs and a 6-segment tail. Then I added an arm pair and two extra tails (antenae) with "parts builder". There are a couple of render glitches, causing a bit of skipping (one 10 frame section toward the end wouldn't render). And, I had hoped to clean it up and add more claw animation toward the en…

We're looking for new topics for upcoming Anzovin training CDs, and we'd like to hear what you all would like to see. Please suggest topics that you think would be valuable, but that do not directly compete with Hash's Siggraph tutes. For example, we might consider doing a CD on hair and fur, but only if the content was very different from that of the Siggraph tute on the same subject. And if you feel you are competent to author an expert-level video tutorial of 2 to 4 hours, please get in touch with me at steve@anzovin.com. Steve Anzovin Studio

I am evaluating the usefulness of purchasing TSM2: I'm excited about the new multi-segment features... For a centipede type creature, I understand you can set up the body with segments and multiple legs per segment. However, can you explain what kind of constraints are set up for the segments? I need to have the body follow a path, with each segment bending appropriately (similar to the tank tread issue on the forum). Does the constraint system automatically build this in? If so, great! If not, can I add this constraint after TSM runs?

Hi all, I decided to re-rig my character and use WM this time--before using TSM2, of course . I've gone through the docs and understand how it works, for the most part, but have a couple things I hope someone can answer: -After setting up the bones and CP assignments for the low-res model, does it need to be tested for motion before running WM? -Joints: In the low-res model, do I need 3 rings per joint? or is that not necessary? -Tail: For a tail, my hi-res model only has one ring per bone. Should I keep that amount or simplify it further for the low-res? As you can see there is a theme here. I understand the process, but am not quite sure about the …

I've been having this problem a while now (v11t/11.1 alpha/11.1 betas) and written to all concerned but to no avail yet. I don't know where the fault is(AM or TSM2). Here it is: Open the attached project. Select either foot bone and move them. Problem: The foot jumps to another position relative to your pointer. OR Select the hand bone and rotate it (works for all bones) Problem: The bone will rotate out of control...not keeping pace with your pointer. The thing is this doesn't happen if I put start a new chor. I'm hoping I won't need to export the actions into a new chor as there are all sorts of constraints set up with other objects already(…

I LOVE the tail lag feature in TSM2! It's works amazingly well for the critter I'm working on. Now I'm curious about the "tail isolate rotation" feature. Couldn't find any mention of it in the manual, so can you give me a brief overview of what it does? Thanks for a great product!

As some of you noticed (my thanks to Ian, Fabrice Favé and Mark Strohbehn for the timely bug reports), there were a couple problems with the version of 2.02 release I put up last night. If you already installed it, my apologies. Please download and install this patch. If you're just downloading it now, the link to the full update follows. IMPORTANT: You need to close A:M before running this installer. Sounds obvious, I know, but just five minutes ago I was thinking "gee, I should mention that you need to close A:M before running the installer," and then proceeded to test the installer... without closing A:M first. So, do as I say, not as I do. TSM 2.02 availab…

hey I just got TSM2 and it's amazing!! I'm only having 2 minor problems.. the first is, the forarm in my character is bending with the elbow, but the legs work perfect second, the IK works perfect on the arms, but then when I shut down A:M and start it back up it doesnt work at all. If I pull the hand down, the wrist bends and it pulls the forearm down but the upper arm stays where it is. Does anyone know how to solve this? or is it just me...

I have a character with no backbone, so to speak. He's a marshmallow, so his body and head are one and the same. He has no spine to speak of. Any suggestions? I have just invested in TSM2, which as I understand it, allows you to install parts of the basic control rig. TSM1 required a minimum of three spine bones as I understand it. Are there similar limitations with TSM2 or can I dispense with the spine altogether or perhaps subsitute a simpler structure for it. I suppose if a three bone spine is required, there is perhaps a way to "fuse" the spine to behave as one bone? Thanks! Bill Gaylord

I'm in the middle of rigging a character using TSM2 and the manual mentions intermediates, cogs and fans. I have added intermediates, as mentioned in the quickstart cd, but don't know anything about the others (or if I even need them). I searched and found threads that mention cogs, but don't explain them. Is the process easily explained? At this point, I'm using mostly smartskin to assist the rig and it seems to be working, but it these techniques work better, I'd be interested. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, -Mitch

Hi, I'm new to A:M but I think I've modelled a fine replica of my standard poodle - they're built like a greyhound, deep chested, long limbed, & lean. He is a realistic model & I need him to be able to move both in a dog & human fashion. I'm in the process of rigging & weighting him using Anzovin products & hope that someone will have the patience to answer my questions - 1. In your opinion, should I use the quad rig with 4 quad legs, quad rig with biped front legs, or fully biped? (He has highly detailed toes on each foot for animation) 2. If biped front legs, can I add shoulder bones? seems to need them... 3. Could you try t…

For a scorpion-like critter with 4 leg pairs (bug legs), 1 main "arm" pair with pinchers, a tail and two antenae, how should the model be laid out? Should the 4 leg pairs be modelled in the bent, natural bug leg position (like the way TSM2 adds the bones) or straight out to the sides? What should I use for the antenae ("tail" from parts builder perhaps)? My tail has 6 segments. TSM2 adds 3 bones per segment. Is this the way it's supposed to work? Do I use "arms" from parts builder for the main arm pair with pinchers? Should they be modelled straight out or or bent? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

We've put up the free TSM2 manual at: http://www.anzovin.com/TSM2manual/ There is new material in it, so TSM2 owners should definitely take a look. Gives a much better idea of what TSM is capable of. However, this is still a work in progress. We'll have more content to add to the manual as we go. Note to copyeditors and grammarcheckers: yep, there are a few typos in there, plus the layout is inconsistent and the figure numbering is screwy. We'll be addressing all that. Steve Anzovin Studio

Hey- I just posted a quicktime of a galloping centaur in the 'Showcase' forum. Have a look! Is there a problem/issue with fingers in TSM2? In this animation I did not even touch the finger controls (I installed 2 fingers on each hand, 1 for the pointer finger, and 1 rig for the rest.) and they seem to be doing all kinds of crazy things... Also- I forget- is there an option to make more than 1 tail? In this instance I would like to put the same 'tail rig' in as the poneytail parented to the head. All in all, the rigging process was quick and painless, about 2 hours of trial and error, and then this test animation. I cant wait to try an octopus! I have said i…

Hey Anzovin fans. I have a thought that I'd like to run by you all related to another possible use of WeightMover. I am looking at creating clothing libraries for a couple of my models. The models are naked to begin with. Could I take a copy of the naked model, apply the clothes, remove any unnecessary splinage and then run the weightmover using the original model as the lowres proxy? I'm thinking that I could get decent movement of the clothed model without having to rebuild/re-rig with each change of clothes. What do you think? Am I out in left field? Bill

For some reason, The setup Machine 2 won't load properly, under my copy of v.11 - it generates the following error message, on startup. I have verified that the file it says is missing, is actually there. But it doesn't appear to be able to find it, and consequently, TSM2 doesn't work. I'm a bit stuck. -c*

Dear Anzovins, Thank- You! You JUST made me a better animator. I FINALLY got a chance to throw one of my characters thru TSM2 and make a few test actions, and I LIKE everything I see. It shows-up in the animation when a better rig is used... For example, the new way of controlling the knees...the old way was fine...the new way is WAY BETTER! The spine, arm and leg stretch I imagine will come in very handy, a GREAT new feature! I watched Raf's movie and did everything he did, once done I realized I needed fan bones so I added them in AFTER TSM2 with no problems, I simply made a new ON/OFF pose called 'MY FAN BONES' and click it on as I turn on TSM's rig. …

No more importing and exporting models, no more working in an external app. --TSM Builder helps you quickly create skeletons for any body plan. A tabbed panel provides options …

Hello all. I'm working my way through the rigging a face tutorial and am up to the point where you rig the eyes. I really like the way the system works but I have to admit I'm having a heck of a time getting the eyeline to line up. Smartskinning the individual eyelids is no problem but when I try to get it so the eyeline stays even, its a wreck. Is there a trick to accomplishing this? Is it necessary to tweak at each individual rotation point? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

Available here: http://www.rafhashvideotapes.com/lib/rafha...s/TSM2W-101.zip (use your TSM2 serial number to run the installer) Sorry for the delay, folks. This update should fix the twisting in the biped legs, the thumbs bending at the wrong angle, and the mis-attribution of the octopus and ogre example characters in the documentation. I've also taken the proxy geometry out of those two characters, and included separate proxy models. Remaining known issues: Flipper will sometimes create bones that appear to be scaled incorrectly. The fix is as follows: 1) In the model view, move the improperly scaled bone. 2) Undo. The bug legs "jitter" when mo…
