Admin Rodney Posted January 24, 2014 Admin Share Posted January 24, 2014 Today's random doodle is of a sunny disposition. I stopped here because I started breaking things... His eye sockets and mouth are cut out via boolean cutters. P.S. The cold always bothers me by the way.

JackDrama
Can I download your model? Please. Olaf is my favourite character from ''Frozen''. Edited January 24, 2014 by JackDrama
Admin Rodney Posted January 24, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted January 24, 2014 Can I download your model? sad.gif Please. sad.gif Olaf is my favourite character from ''Frozen''. yay.gif I don't think you'd want this model as it isn't ready for prime time yet. Having said that I'm willing to upload it as it might provide a starting place for a proper modeling of the character (or one like him) to begin. You have been warned. My doodles are merely proof of concepts and not even wanna be 'models' yet. If you replace everything in the model with new splineage... I believe you'll have a proper Olaf. JackDrama
Great idea, Rodney. After someone remake the splineage of Olaf (a talented modeler for instance), maybe he can upload the finished version here: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?act=SF&s=&f=193 Edited January 24, 2014 by JackDrama
Admin Rodney Posted January 24, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted January 24, 2014 I figure in a couple hundred years we'll have every character ever created in the A:M Exchange readily available for downloading. (By then the world will have moved on to a different copyrighting/intellectual property system)

Admin Rodney Posted January 24, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted January 24, 2014 Nice to see you modeling Rodney !! Be careful, I'm considering doing more of it! Most of my doodles have a few goals behind them. In this case I believe they were: - Olaf is a cool character. It'd be fun to model him. - He looks easy to model. - It shouldn't take much time to model him. - Dan is doing that Disney eye thing over there. How would I approach the cartoon Disney eye look on Olaf? That's about all the motivation I needed in this case. Results: - Olaf is still a very cool character and I'm pleased I was able to capture his likeness. - He's not as easy to model as he seems. - It would take a good day to model him correctly in my estimation. (This likely wouldn't include texturing and rigging... allot at least one day more for each) - Dan is moving in closer to capturing that Disney look! - Olaf's cheek area is the primary area of interest that would take the most time for me to accurately model. That might have to be tweaked considerably due to the exaggerated expressions he makes. - Boolean cutters for eye sockets and mouth work well for a POC but there really is no substitute for modeling those features in. - Some other observations I'm forgetting. Jack, If you are interested in modeling Olaf further I'm not opposed to continuing the WIP here as long as there is sustained interest. He got to the point where I had satisfied my curiosity and I have no other plans for him beyond that. These WIPs are a great place to compare notes, improve models, etc. Perhaps we can try his big ugly snowbrother next.
JackDrama
I created a head for your model, but unfortunately it's not exacly the same with the original. Hope I helped, and I think you'll like it. And I also have a ''SHADED/WIREFRAME'' screen capture. WARNING: PLEASE, MODYFY IT IF IT DOESN'T LOOK GOOD Next, I'll start making his arms. olaf_head.mdl Edited January 24, 2014 by JackDrama
JackDrama
Now I also created an arm for your model, and I wanted to make it look a little bit more cartoony than in the movie. Next, I'll start finding more textures to put to your figure. olaf_arm.mdl Edited January 24, 2014 by JackDrama

johnl3d
Saw the movie this afternoon the character would be a lot of fun and have the different parts able to let go would work with some on/off poses ..
largento
This isn't quite on model, but it could probably be tweaked into it, so it could be used as a pretty good starting place. olaf.mdl
JackDrama
Thanks, Largento. You've created a very good looking head. But I'd like to keep Rodney's Olaf's body, buttons and feet. The head, eyes(everything including the iris and the white), eyelids, eyebrows, nose, teeth will be by Largento. The arms will be my models. But who will create his hair? Finaly, I decided to model the hair/logs/branches stuck at the top of his head. After, someone will rig him by using the LiteRig : http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=34228 Then his face will be rigged using LiteFace : http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=34474 Anyway I re-created my cartoony arm. Use the new version of my cartoony arm Rodney, please. I like how Largento created the snow material. But I also found and other texures, including ''carrot'',''arm'' and ''buttons''. please download the ''.bmp'' files for higher texure quality. Also his hair will be textured with the ''arm'' texture. arm.bmp carrot.bmp button1.bmp olaf_arm_new.mdl branches_new.mdl Edited January 28, 2014 by JackDrama
JackDrama
I found a teaser trailer of the film ''Frozen'' and I thought we could get more ideas for his facial expresions and animations with that way (such as walkcycles, ect.) : ALSO, WE CAN DEVELOP THE MODEL BY BEING INSPIRED OF THIS ANIMATION (like johnl3d said: The character would be a lot of fun and have the different parts able to let go would work with some on/off poses). Admin Rodney Posted January 25, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted January 25, 2014 Okay Jack. You've officially used your quota of emoticons for the week. But who will create his hair? Silly human. JackDrama
Sorry. When I said hair, I meant the logs that were stuck at the top of his head. Edited January 25, 2014 by JackDrama

Admin Rodney Posted January 25, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted January 25, 2014 I just returned from work so am about to get some sleep. If he's not got himself pulled together by later this afternoon I might have time to put him together. Weekends are rough on my splining time these days. JackDrama
Perfect! I realy can't wait to see his latest version!!! And how long will it take you to complete him? Please Rodney, do you have any information for the combinination his parts and a screenshot? It is realy important! Right now, I started working on Marshmallow (Olaf's big ugly brother ). He's finished! He has morph targets, he can be downloaded, but he's not rigged. He can also hide his spikes from his body. After, someone will rig him using the LiteRig : http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=34228 As I warned you previously : I uploaded the hair/logs/branches, the latest version of the arm and textures at Post #15, because you did not downloaded some the files. Download them, please I didn't do any uploading mistake, I'm 100% sure about that. marshmallow.mdl

Admin Rodney Posted February 2, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted February 2, 2014 But It doesn't matter me to show a screenshot of what you did, please. Once I do something I'll post it here. A screenshot of what I've done thus far would look like this: one very murky inside the brain shot of Rodney contemplating downloading Mark's Olaf head, Jack's Olaf arm, etc. It's hard to take a screenshot of what goes on inside my head. I've been trying to get that imagery captured for almost 50 years. Pencil on paper tends to be the best way to capture it but unfortunately I haven't had time to pick up a pencil these days. Which reminds me... I should be carrying around a sketchbook... always.

JackDrama
Thanks, Robert and Rodney. It would be perfect if someone was modeling Anna. I like her too. Please, model her.
Admin Rodney Posted February 3, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted February 3, 2014 Please, model her. With your talent you would have her modeled in no time. Heck, in another topic I think you already had her almost modeled (it was actually another girl model but... hey... it'd be easier for you to modify to look like Anna) Just start a new topic in the WIP section and off you go! We'll be here to cheer you on.
JackDrama
Actualy, Alain Desrochers modeled her (Sirene). I just modifided and used the hair from his other model (Nafta) wich I modifided too. Only the ponnytail was mine, because I wanted to save time from modeling and help Rodger with his art: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=45631 but it looks like he's busy with other things. I don't know if im good enough to modify her , but maybe someone would have better skils than me. Anyway, I can give you Sirene's base. And please, change the rig and use the LiteRig! Admin Rodney Posted February 4, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted February 4, 2014 I don't know if im good enough to modify her Well, if you aren't now you soon will be. There's nothing like diving in and creating your own things. That's the purpose of my doodling with splines here, to test out thoughts and theories. Just pace yourself so you don't burn out or get overwhelmed. Keep it fun and before long you'll be able to model anything. I don't know how long you've been modeling with A:M but you very clearly have the talent for it.
