Mac - Camtasia or Screencasting Studio?
higginsdj replied to higginsdj's topic in A:M Tutorials & Demos
V10 isn't a release version of QT - just what comes with Snow Leopard. -
Hey - they are great characters - very appealing. The only thing that seems 'odd' for me are the ears/horns of the first character. To me they don't feel the right shape - but I can't put my finger on it. Cheers
-
Woohooo.... Did the chook tail shuffle with a couple of actions. I even applied ease - after 10 years of using AM I finally 'got it'. I shifted the camera cuts - Yes I think they are much better - and delayed the sheeps first reaction to chook. Now to start work on those ears Cheers
-
Yes - that first cut worried me to - but I didn't know why. The ears are single bones and I didn't bother with them much other than to keep them out of the way of the face. I was also considering adding a step toward the chicken and a step back for the sheep rather than just keep the sheep on the spot. Talking tails, the Chicken tail has no bones but I just noticed that the sheep does. I think it might be too late to add this on the chicken - but I will give it a go and see if I have time. I might also give the sheeps tail the odd swish. (I wonder if I can find a fly model....) Still a little time to try to change and fix things (3 days plus change). Thanks all - All advice and critiques most welcome. Edit - well chicken does have bones in the tail - they are just not showing in the chor...... Any idea how to unhide them? They show in an action window (same thing happened to Brannigan in the SO files) Cheers

OK, I think this one is approaching as near to finished as I am capable of at the moment. I'm not fully satisfied but I am fast running out of time. The facial work (mainly the eyes I think) in the 3rd line of dialogue doesn't seem quite right but I can't 'see it'. Comments and critiques (good or bad) are most welcome. Final Cheers

His settings screen shot looks like a QTPro (for mac) window to me.... Cheers

Mac - Camtasia or Screencasting Studio?
higginsdj replied to higginsdj's topic in A:M Tutorials & Demos
Looking at this list, am I right is assuming that only Camtasia and Screenflow offer post editing? Cheers -
Anyone use these and have an opinion (note the Mac version of Camtasia is not the same as the Windows version and appears to only have a subset of features - perhaps why it is $200 cheaper than the Windows version) Cheers
-
You need to render it to a compressed form. There is no reason you can't compress a 12 second video (with Audio) at 640 x 480 to less than 4mb (H.264 will easily do this). How are you rendering it? QT option in AM's render window? If so then you can adjust the compression settings. Cheers

Not sure if this has been covered before or not, but Anzovin Studios produced a large number of CD and VHS based tutorials for AM but they no longer support or distribute them. I think I have them all (or at least nearly all). The TSM2 one has already been released on this forum so I contacted Anzovin Studios to find out the status of the others. Anzovin Studios has graciously allowed all their tutorials to be freely distributed (there are a couple where copyright rests with the presenter and can't be distributed yet so if anyone knows how to contact Justin Barrett and Simon Buntrock please let me know) These include: Non Linear Animation Creating Setups with Raf Anzovin Animating with the Setup Machine 2 Model a face with Bill Young Rigging a face with Raf Anzovin Mastering Materials Vol 1 and 2 The ones in question are: Animate a face with Justin Barrett Vol 1 and 2 A:M in live action Vol 1 and 2 Animate! with Cristin McKee Vol 1, 2 and 3 Now thats a few Gb of data and I can't host it. Thoughts? (I am not about to start copying them to CD/DVD for people) Cheers Admin note: until we can find a better hosting method and better video format I will put zips of the original CD contents here... Model a Face with Bill Young (requires a QuickTime compatible player) Part 01 - The Eye.zip Part 02 - The Mouth.zip Part 03 - Face Discussion.zip Part 04 - The Nose.zip Part 05 - The Cheek and Brow.zip Part 06 - The Skull.zip Part 07 - Tweaking and Forehead.zip Part 08 - The Ear.zip Part 09 - The Crow's Feet.zip Part 10 - The Neck.zip Part 11 - Final Face.zip Reference and Rotoscopes.zip Animate a Face with Justin Barret can be accessed via his site: https://justinsbarrett.com/animate-a-face/ Mastering Materials with Bill Young Vol 1&2 (requires a QuickTime and Sorenson 3 codec compatible player) 00_LightsAndMaterials.zip 01_Attributes.zip 02_CombinersAndLayering.zip 03_SmileyFace.zip 04_Star.zip 05_OldGlory.zip 06_Burlap.zip 07_SantaHat.zip 08_Watermelon.zip Node Cloner.zip note: Node Cloner will not work in current versions of A:M. Clode your Nones manually!

I see 'my' as the start of the 'Kin' beat but I'm probably initiating the movement too early. ie Kin might be the stressed word but it is 'my kin' that has the emotion attached to it. I haven't looked at any overlap or secondary action yet (I think wing flapping might help the 'stress' in the phase) No - the 11 Second Club switched to letter box in December 09 (560 x 316px) Cheers

Quick Update: Shot 1: Cropped the camera to get a closer view of the chook so the viewer gets a better read of the face. Put in some holds and took out some floaty bits so I think this shot works. I think the beaksynch is working too. (But I am never a good judge of my own work) Chook Update (2.67mb H.264 mov) Crits (good and bad) and Comments welcome. Cheers

As with many landscape involving a land/water transition, the transition looks harsh (too hard edged). Have you considered darkening the sand at the transition (and giving it a but of variation - perhaps with a displacement map). Cheers

Good point. I did this same thing with my first attempt with Mancandy (in the other app) with frame 0 at the extreme (very extreme) and that threw a few people off. I think animating with the restrictions offered by these characters will do me good as I have less to play with. Having too much control with other charatcers has lead me to very floaty animation and I need to make it snappy and to the point. I was contemplating Aardman style mouth and mouthshapes and animating on 2's to give it a stop motion feel. Thoughts? Cheers
-
OK - The delivery of the first line - no lip synch yet though I think with these characters I might be limited to simple jaw movements (if I am to meet the comp deadline). Critiques welcome. Update 1 (1.9mb h.264 mov) Cheers

I have a slight problem..... I took the models off the Extra CD that I installed on my HD then enabled embedding and saved to project on my PC. If I remove the CD from the PC, AM reports an error when I try to open the models. How do I fix this? Edit: OK - fixed it with a consolidation (wierd since the consolidation didn't pull anything off the CD) Cheers
-
Hi all, I had been entering this comp with another App in the past but this month, after my initial attempts were panned have chosen AM and a completely new approach. Currently rerigging the 2 characters to be able to blink and talk (at least at a basic level). (Chicken: "You Stole from my kin.") Cheers

Sorry if I sounded harsh - that wasn't my intention. I'm an Astronomer so I tend to get pedantic about the subject. Cheers
-
Looking right is in the eye of the beholder - not just the artist. My intent is to simply give you an alternate viewpoint, in this case you chose to justify your position by saying others do it as opposed to the use of Artistic license. What you ultimately choose is of course up to you. Cheers

Well I just bit the bullet and bought the CD version (postage is the cost of an annual subscription...) I'm taking 7 month off work this year to do a 5 minute short. Plus I will be working on SO and doing whatever I need to improve my animation. Script is almost done, now working on Character Design (1 of the 2 main characters is already designed so constructing him right now). Dialogue is sorted so will be looking for people with interesting voices to voice act very soon (my own voice is far too nasally to be of any use). Old, gruff, deep tenor type voice (old mariner/fisherman) and a whiny sarcastic younger voice (sly real estate agent) I will be using VUE for my background and foreground layers and will use Blender for Post work but AM will be used for the guts of the process. Cheers

You might want to check again! I've just looked at a whole lot of image captures of space scenes from these shows and there are no stars in the field behind bright objects. ie the background is a deep purple blue (sometimes mottled). Now when the bright object moves off screen, then there is a star field - but one could easily count the number of stars that the field contains. One can easily be duped by what one thinks one sees because we know stars are there. Cheers
-
If you were a flaming meteor, wouldn't you leave a continuous trail of fire instead of spots of fire? I would if I were a flaming meteor. In reality - yes and no. There should be clumpiness as meterors break up rather than burn up. The small pieces will burn up or simply slow down and thus cool down - no longer flaming (ie a meteor does not hit the ground as a fireball - no matter what the movies might show). Cheers
-
Just one point to bear in mind. If you have a nearby star or bright object (ie planet, moon etc) then your starfield needs to be faded or non existent (ie in the shot of the star and it prominence, no star in the starfield should be visible). Its a bit like the moon landings and the idea it was faked because no stars are visible. Compared to nearby stars and planets they are so faint by comparison that they just aren't visible. If you want them then fade them into the scene the further from the star you get. Cheers

You'll need to contact Hash for assistance. Jason at hash dot com should suffice but being the holiday season, it might be a little while before he can contact you. Cheers

OK - Part 1: Overall the choreography looks great but the action looks staged and the movement is floaty. There is no anticipation and no follow through as the action races from one motion to the next. Green shirt frames 13 - 29. He simply moves aside. He should put his weight to his left first before swinging right out of the way. Mask guy frames 30 - 42. He needs to lean his left shoulder forward and down to anticipate the rotation to the right - without it, where does the momentum for that rotation come from? Mask guy frames 42 - 55. There needs to be slow in and slow out on the rope bounce and when he does bounce out he has bent legs and he lands with the sam bent legs yet somehow has enought energy to jump and rotate - perhaps it was all in his toes He needs to come off the ropes, land and follow through down further then leap out. Mask guy frames around 85. You need a little more follow through here. You can see it in the frame by frame analysis but it's just too quick in normal speed. Mask guy frame 107. His weight is still far too far off to his right to be able to pull his hand off the floor and once he does get to his feet there is no follow through - no way anyone came come out of that type of motion and end up standuinbg like a statue. Greeen shirt frames 125 -135. Look where the loop in the rope is compared to where it is being leant on..... Mask guy frame 153. No anticipation. He just moves forward from a statue position. The shoulder lift action. Not enough weight and follow through here. Green shirt drops once to take the weight but doesn't recover. When he takes the weight he and Mask guy will compress and stretch. Greeen Shirt frame 228. Physically impossible. He needs to have bent forward and arc/arch a lot furhter back to flip mask guy and then the next action happens too early. It looks like green shirt is leading into the flip rather than being pulled into the flip. Just my 2 cents worth Cheers
