  1. I'm takin' a break from the cotton gin...my friend wants a magic logo for the beginning of his videos..it involves a wand shooting out electricity and then his name appears. Here's the wand:
  2. those are very nice! realistic enough to satisfy me
  3. oakchas: The reason I'm doing it in 3D is because it must be realistic....box and crayons won't cut for realistic and detailed.... thanks for the animated gin! I'm pretty sure the things on the big wheel are blades...It's fine if it's not exact, because the teacher probably doesn't know how it works... thanks for the compliments and the prj file! Nancy: this is for history class. I have to make something that was involved in reconstruction...I'm making a cotton gin because industrialization spread throughout the south after the war...So I'm making a gin to represent the mills... also, not to worry about procrastination! the teacher has moved the deadline for everyone to monday...talk about a big save! Thanks for the compliments! Kamikaze: thanks for the comments....however the animation idea is the last priority on the list...if I have a lot of free time I'll animate it, even if I don't make it on time to the project. Ken: yes...those spikes are geometry...lol! The reason for that detail is because this is just for stills and detail...so why not make some true detail?? Hmmm..to me it seems that they're the same amount of spikes. Maybe not. I'm sure it'll be fine...thanks for your concerns, though! I'll be gettin' back to work after responding to the rest of these people JD: (that's my nickname!) thanks for the compliments! Just practice practice and practice... My tip for you is that in mechanical modeling, don't look at your subject as a whole object...break it down into simple shapes...for example, in the cotton gin, the shape is basically a few cylinders and a big cube...then you think about details after you have broken down Thanks for the comments guys.... Now, to get back to work!
  4. Ok...I usually get a critique by now...but, here's more progress..please critique. I know it's an early stage, but just tell about anything on your mind...even if it's irrelevant! lol
  5. if it's for a training vid it's awesome! Just don't try to combine that with live action the anatomy looks pretty correct at first sight...
  6. this is for a school project...must be done by the end of tomorrow...with texturing and possibly some animation...not to mention a brief description (late night up ahead). This is it so far...many patches, much detail (main requirement is "realism" and "detail") This is my basic reference: and progress so far:
  7. This is not a short....a short is something with a plot..you stated yourself it doesn't have a point... however, it is a GREAT way to get to know A:M. This is a great idea for new users...just create random, well rounded animations. you have a use of cycles, cam movement, some editing, some animation, and a pretty good choreography. Now start digging deeper into the uknown realms of 3D....
  8. I suggest a different shape for the house...hehe...I understand it's off topic but I'm sure the look will get many people thinking....uh....ok?
  9. the design is great! But if you're planning to showcase the actual restaurant in a render, I suggest beveling all those table edges
  10. it looks great, if you're looking to model a simple object..if you're going for realistic much more details are needed. The way it is right now would be a great object for practicing animation
  11. Hey guys, I finished modeling the unhatched egg...now I have the rig started. I'm using a format I haven't used before, but it seems interesting and efficient (jason osipia?). I learned this through other people's project files and stuff.... the actual rig on the egg is standard. (IK legs, FK Arms). I realized I made a mistake on the decal after I put it on...I wrote "right forearm rotate" twice and I didn't write "right bicep rotate" at all...gotta fix that I'll also post up a shot of the model in it's neutral pose again...
  12. Not bad, jobe! Doesn't it feel good to model something that's in someone's request? Then once you show it to them you get really happy when they're impressed.
  13. Thanks! I need some feedback on the idea I drew in that diagram....
  14. Ok...so the guy's got lamps..but how does he pick things up? Here's a very very very basic sketch of an idea...basically two arms would be in the front as drawn in red... good idea?
  15. hey! i remember watching his vids when I was like 8-10! haha..sweet
  16. yup it looks great now! Sweet...
  17. are you going for a realistic look? If so, the texturing will need some work I also suggest not texturing yet... As for the shape I think it's pretty good...hard to tell, though, because it's really early in its stage
  18. wow! Maybe...but I must warn you...I cheat on many for many of my methods...for example...I don't bevel small objects that are little details not meant to be focused on... yeah...I'll try to make one.
  19. Whoo hoo..all three of the lamps! I had to take off the top "bar" of the forearm so that the lamp wouldn't be limited to where it would go
  20. Closeup on the leggy
  21. nice material! I would suggest a bit more reflectivity, though Robbie the Robot came from The Ultimate Guide to animation master (2000 or 2001, I forgot) book...
  22. jaque, I'll get a shot of the legs after this one: I added the arm with the lamp..still have to add detail to the lamp part you'll also see I gave the eggy a visor
  23. leggies!!
  24. Dearmad, The egg will move with legs I am making right now... but you just gave me an idea. I'm going to somehow create a device where the egg itself can hop out
  25. Ok....here's a new little model I'm making: the unhatched egg... After seeing this WIP you'll get the picture that I'm into simple characters, but mechanical ones.... After this I'll be adding feet, more detail on the "cage" and add some lights that are shining on him at all times (to incubate him)... this is going to be an interesting model
