Hmm..I like this style of models. It's so "cartoony" and is really awesome. If you somehow make a texture for the jeans and shirt, it'd look great

Can't wait to see your film...I suggest using the free models hash provides, unless you don't want to feel like your "cheating", even though you're not

I bet if you added music to the sequence and the spider would jump down after a couple of seconds that would be awesome. The music would give a sudden "horror note" that's really loud when the spider comes down

If you made more characters that style, you could make a short film like Finding Nemo..except not that long lol

I know this is really old...but you should continue the animation by waiting a couple of seconds and then it suddenly jumps up right in front of the camera..that would be startling
