  1. Here's an update on Glimey. Still have some things left to do before I call him done. glimeyturn.mov And here's Glimey with Flemm for size comparison...
  2. Alternately, you can select a ring of splines from the group you want to use the same surface settings. Copy and paste it and then delete it. There'll now be a duplicate group created in the PWS. Select it and add the new splines you want to use to that new group.
  3. She looks great, Gerry! This year's is going to be epic!
  4. This is an issue of continuity. If you want the top to be flat, you need to create a new non-continuous spline. To do that. Hit the "a" button, hold down the shift key and click on the first CP, then with the shift key still held down, click on the second CP.
  5. I don't know if there's a Window's equivalent, but on the Mac, A:M uses the OS' color palette: By selecting the icon with the three little palettes, you can add colors and palettes to a saved list. (Organized people can name them and save multiple palettes.) Another helpful thing is that by selecting that magnifying glass icon, you can capture the color of any pixel on your screen. So, you can select the magnifying glass, hold it over one of the color boxes in the PWS, click on it and select that color!
  6. Oh! :-) There's only the 4 around each eyestalk. Do have some hooks down around the neck I could probably lower...
  7. You can do it with extrusion, just Peak the control points. That will make all of the angles sharp instead of curved.
  8. Maddle, you may get some value out of these modeling basics comic-book style tutorials I made.
  9. Thanks, Ken! I can't take any credit for the design. This is an alien design that was in McCrary's very first version of Greyhawk back in 1985! fpps? I'll see if I can't smooth things out there. In the comic he has a sort of chrome hat/helmet that I've resisted putting on him, if I can't get it right, maybe I'll stick it on to cover it up. :-) The room is octagonal which I'm guessing is why the shadow's shape is different. This is definitely a case of fantasy lighting. :-) No, it's not the default. I discovered it when I was messing with the dragon model. I thought it gave him a kind of kermit the frog look. :-) It's a material called Scales2. It's either in the default materials or from the Extras DVD. I found out that if I put the scale very small (like 5%), you get this look.
  10. I'm gonna' have to invent a new word that means more than "wow!"...
  11. Maddle, you're going to want to delete one of those horizontal splines and then attach the control point. Ideally you want one continuous spline going horizontal and one continuous spline going vertical.
  12. Thanks, Myron! It translates as "A true friend is a rare bird." :-)
  13. Thanks, Ken! I'll have plenty of more opportunities to perfect the sea water. Started modeling the first of the Starbuckler characters. This is Glimey's head. I put in a jaw hinge and a couple of bones to tilt his eyestalks to make him seem less mechanical. It was weird working on his head with just the mouth and no eyes. :-) glimeyhead2.mov I spent the weekend preparing the Parrot Review Board for this week's strips. Here's a render of what it's looking like...
  14. I am! I don't use projects, so everything is saved out and has a naming scheme. I normally have a choreography for each frame (the only exception was that one that was one big choreography that stretched across four frames.) I have a folder for each strip, which contains the choreographies and renders for that strip. I then have a folder for models, one for actions, one for materials, etc. This lets me go back to any panel and adjust something and re-render it. The strip launches the first Monday of November and I'd like to do an animated "commercial" to put up around then to try to lure in readers. I'm also doing a small webcomics convention on the 14th of November and I'd like to be able to have it running at my table.
  15. Thanks, guys! I think that's a great compliment, Rodney! As neat as the 3D look is, ideally you should only see the characters!
  16. Here's a look at how a bunch of editorial cartoonists caricature the President.
  17. And #25! I've got a lot to do for next week's strips! I need to model the parrots and the interior courtroom!
  18. Very awesome! I'm re-experiencing the tragedy of my youth that my Mom wouldn't get me the Millennium Falcon playset when I was a kid. :-)
  19. Thanks, Ken! The building's an attempt to re-create in 3D what McCrary drew in 2D for the strip and there wasn't a path in that version. I had thought about a path, but any opportunity for me to take the easy way out, I'm taking it! :-) No spoilers, Ken! :-)
  20. Never heard of this, Steve. I'll have to check it out!
  21. Finishing up the exterior set for the Parrot Review Board that I'll need for a few strips coming up. First time I've ever used hair that I know of!
  22. How about this, Gerry. Have the mother come in and see the empty plate and say "did you eat all of these cookies? they were for santa!" and while she tries to "but, mom...", mom turns off the TV.
