  1. Freaky! I remember this guy in a short night-time animation a couple years (?) ago. Great original style to the character! The skin texture almost looks like pastels. Very cool and disturbing...in a good way. I'd love to see some other renders of characters and sets, too. Jim
  2. Jim, Are you saying you can encode a movie file as a DivX file using VLC? I think that was robcat's question. As far as I know, there are no DivX encoders for the Mac. Jim (the other one)
  3. It looks like things have really clicked for you. Nice modeling! Unless you plan to show the tops of the gums, why bother tweaking them? There are always lots of other areas that more important to tweak. I'm basically lazy, that why I say that. Keep going, Jim
  4. Very nice for a first head model! Now, welcome to the world of endless tweaks! I look forward to any updates you post, Jim
  5. Cole, I like him! He looks like a fun character. Keep updating with your progress. Jim

Hey Derrick, That's an impressive model for any age modeler. To help smooth out the mesh, try to make the patches as close to square as possible without losing your detail. And eventually you might want to try the porcelain material that comes on the cd, in the data/materials/geometry folder. It really smooths things nicely. If you can post a wireframe shot, we can probably offer more opinions and/or advice. Nice job, Jim
  7. Wow! Congratulations. Nice production all around. Jim
  8. Cool! I like the combination of organic and mechanical. Nice start! Jim
  9. Great props you are making, John! Thanks for showing how easy it is to make mechanical items with the AI wizard. You make it look simple. Keep updating! Jim
  10. I'm not sure what other pattern you mean. You might be referring to how I would always try to model with as few splines as possible. Those never animated very well. But I wanted to develop facial poses for this character and knew from other sources that the radial pattern is best for good lifelike poses. Thanks, Jim
  11. Srmjr, Maybe you didn't see these posted elsewhere: http://homepage.mac.com/talbotj/FLATTEN-TUTORIAL.zip http://homepage.mac.com/talbotj/FEATURES-TUTORIAL.zip http://homepage.mac.com/talbotj/EYEBROW-DETAIL-TUTORIAL.zip http://homepage.mac.com/talbotj/EYELASHES-...IL-TUTORIAL.zip They are LARGE files. I hope you can download them. All your questions are answered in the tutes, I think. Jim
  12. Give him a moped or a motorized skateboard. He can have loads of mishaps with that. Jim
  13. Yes. It's a kind of caricature style that allows me the freedom to make her "sort of" real looking without having to be a slave to realism. Thanks, Jim
  14. Sean, Very funny! Congrats on getting him moving so well, so soon. Jim
  15. Beautiful vehicle! Excellent modeling! Vroom! Jim
  16. That's a beautiful wireframe image! There are a lot of very good things happening in your model like her ears, but I'll just point out the few areas that I would tweak. Add some thickness to her eyelids. Maybe another spline ring around the eye where the eyelashes come out from to form a ledge where tears can rest on. The little valley that runs up from the upper lip to the nose is missing. She looks really good, but her coloring makes her look more like Tyra Banks to me. Jim

Phil, I like the simple teeth also. The mouth opening movie, showing the teeth, works well. Keep up the good work, Jim

Cool character! Is he kicking some cadet's butt? If you darkened the inside of his mouth it might read a little easier. And add teeth. Good job, Jim
  19. Very wacky and cute at the same time, Gazz! Nice work, Jim
  20. Slick! Is that a real car, Chris? I want one! I like the mysterious lighting, too. Jim
  21. Ah. A clean, simple and elegant mesh is a beautiful thing to behold! Nice job, Mike. Jim
  22. That is a gorgeous render! Fantastic detail. I love the lighting. There's so much depth in this scene. If I had to find something to change, the shoes look pretty big for someone who sleeps in that bed. Jim
  23. Hey Sean, I don't mean any offense, but I could have sworn that this character had a moustache and beard when he was uncolored. If not, then I think he has some very funky facial features. It could be just what you want. That would be your creative call, but it's a little hard to understand the facial structure around the mouth and chin to me. It's funny how we can see different things when looking at the same thing. Jim
