Thanks Rob, the problem was that hard drive crashed and it was a struggle to try and get windows up and running again, literally had to install windows to a spare laptop, then clone it to another drive and then boot pc ( Mac Pro 5.1 ) again, I think even if I reinstalled it again on the same drive it would have changed host id, but that ssd look like it was on its way out, have messaged Jason :)

Hi all, I upgraded my pc hard drive to a larger capacity by cloning my hard drive and now my license is not valid, checked the host id and it has changed, is there a way to stop this from happening, I wish we still had dongles, would be super good right about now so I dont have to bug Jason all the time, especially when you need transition to a new computer

lawl . . . all the greatest techno / trance record covers of that time . . . Bryce + Poser yep novelty at best and the god awful rendering speed line by line by line

love your work man š¤ That's beautiful

I think we had ( Art School ) Ray Dream first, then Moved to Infini D . . . then Lightwave, ( wasnt a big fan ), some of our lecturers were employed by companies and universities using Softimage on SGI gear I was like man can we go to your work and play to which they replied, only if you want to make 3D with command prompts - eeecch!! I thought the isometric graph interface would be good transitioning from graph paper drawings for Ray Dream . . . but it was not and it was slooooowwwww on the schools Macs . . . I picked up AM when I started my first job in advertising, we had to produce some ads and infini d wasnt cutting it, one of the guys at our company told us about Dylan Perry from then Momentum, he made a call and Dylan dropped past with AM 96 / 98 I think, gave us a 15 minute quick start guide . . . I produced 2 x 30 second TVC's like in a couple of hours, the modelling was exactly how it ought to be, the rendering, rigging was so intuative . . . rendering, rigging, the works ! best app ever, ran fast on macs and pcs but it did crash a lot back then ha ha . . . so did you eve use Bryce 3D or Poser lol

Windows 11, 3D Painter, AM Loading Work in GPU Memory . . .
a.quaihoi replied to a.quaihoi's topic in Open Forum
Hey Rob, interface / real-time & general usage, when I was installing it on initial launch it took a while, registering plugins ?? then was quite sluggish and became more sluggish, I was monitoring system temps cpu / ram etc. etc. and the computer was not throttling down, even with real-time subdivision bumped all the way down it was still sluggish, mysteriously today it seems to be working quick again . . . 𫤠. . . think somethings dying on this old computer . . . time for a upgrade -
Ray Dream Designer / Studio š . . I remember that ! Infini-D too

Hi all, soooo, just upgraded to Win11 from Win 10 ( had a crash and decided to upgrade ) and have installed AM 19 / 19.5 ect. have noticed some slowdown over from Win 10, has anyone encountered this who's on Win 11, granted my rig is still an old mac pro / DP Xeon 3.4g / 128 Ram /Radeon RX 580, but AM was much faster with windows 10, looking to upgrade the rig soon to a Minisforum MS 1 or Dell precision compact 3240/60 just for AM, with possibly an RTX A2000 / 4000 GPU, am working with Perry Animations on a few things for his feature moofee and the small pc's would be great for potability for onsite work. On GPU front does anyone know if AM loads most of the workload / models in GPU Memory or still in RAM ? Because if its primarily working from GPU memory then I would like to get a GPU with as much memory as I can. Is 3D painter still available ? I have been looking for this and the website is no longer active, can someone point us to where I can buy a licence and download the program. Latest build, accordion with working keys / bellow is really taxing the system ! - used robcats spring tute to get this working, works like a charm ! Thanks robcat

I think the new ARM windows has a translation ( emulation ) layer for x64 on it Rob, I have been reading up on this in plans to upgrade the old computers we have here, apparently benchmarks windows arm running x64 apps running on a M series Mac faster and more stable than on dedicated windows hardware , I have tried to run AM in Parallels on our old 5.1 mac V19 etc does not work, version 15 works fine ( direct X ) , the issue is that the emulators use old open gl drivers not installed with the app, to make matters worse Mac OS has stopped support for OpenGL so the host system also has outdated drivers - on further reading people have been working on the open source communities, emulating or translating OpenGL commands through Vulkan API - which can be installed on a Mac, however commercial applications like Parallels and VM sill still have issues supporting these API calls if its not built into their software - however - platforms like WINE & Codeweavers Cross Over & Now the Mac OS game porting tool kit - pretty much WINE translation layers but with " Apple Factory Support " would allow customisation of API calls and theoretically allow AM to be installed though them and work almost like a native app . . . Codeweavers could certainly get AM working through this way

best bet is to use Fusion 360 / Solid works etc. you can use it for free as an enthusiast and for non commercial works, but there is a big learning curve, you can import drawings from AI but it has to to be scaled properly, as the guys said AM is not for CAD / Engineering use - it can be used to make mechanical models though but will take a lot longer than just using a dedicated cad app as it lacks a lot of tools and constraints, which is a shame as it would be a awesome feature I agree

Just wanted to know if anyone is using Intel Arc cards in their rigs, if so, does it work well with AM. ?

Didi a bit more reading, so apparently if we install molten VK on Mac, then compile and install the Mesa 3D Zink Driver we can have applications which rely on openGL to translate OpenGL calls through the Vulkan API --> Metal = Working Open GL App ! Not sure how this would work in something like VMware or Parallels as they utilise their own emulated drivers within app, but Wine / Crossover would be a better option. Apparently this works great in Linux and they have released a Mac port of it which can support up to OpeGL 4.6, further reading shows people who have attempted to compile and install the Zink driver have done so successfully however they haven't been able to make any apps work with the Zink Driver, this implementation is probably some time away from actually working on Mac universally, demos shown of Open GL apps and games on Linux play very well ! The report is there is a few bugs in compiling as its a multiple step process, there is no GUI or installer for this and instructions for Mac are limited - but there is progress which is slow but progress none the less. This will be really good when Apple absolutely remove OpenGL on the OS as this translation will allow OpenGL Apps to run in future Mac OS Releases without native Open GL implementation, for now I think its early stages and they are ironing out the bugs. Someone who is more developer savvy than me could probably have a go at compiling the Zink Driver, Molten VK is pretty easy to install from terminal through Brew, as there's no clear documentation for running the multiple apps to compile Zink and my lack of understanding developer lingo to piece it all together, the search continues for instructions and more importantly - time to tinker !! The Below image should have another arrow under Vulkan with a box for Metal API for Mac Implementation

they probably just released it because people kept complaining about it, all the while cooking up the future driven new arm tech, then they realised it for the huge amount, then they released the Arm machines that pretty much were faster than the pro's - probably to make a statement lol, I remember we bought a maxed out G4 DP 500 on launch day with all the bells and whistles, LVD SCSI 10,000 RPM Drives, Media 100 Systems Video Card ( Prior to Avid Systems Video Processors ) as our video editing machine for broadcast TVC and video clips jobs, it was over 15k AUD for that but we actually bought it to replace a G3 machine to produce a couple of video clips it paid itself of on that first job, in some aspects the price of the previous Mac Pro is justifiable if there is a need, but not for everyday use and now in such a short period of time you can do all of that and more on a Mac Mini or a Studio its pretty crazy what they have achieved and have bought the tech to all of us for prices that are the same or below the cost of a new phone !

I think EVERYONE is waiting for this ha ha so much speculation, I am thinking they will announce it later this year with a release next year or we get surprised with a few hints in the next WWDC. ( My Speculation here ) I am thinking they will have some type of modularity, where by you can expand the machine with core modules / daughterboards which is probably interfaced with their fabric bus instead of PCIE, but also ( maybe ) retain some PCIE ports to add discrete cards, so you can get a base model with a base specs but can also update to multi cpu/gpu SOC's when required which also has onboard ram, same interface for RAM Modules, the fabric interface will allow full bandwidth throughput with additional SOC modules, similar to the studio MAX and PRO chips being essentially 2 SOCS joined together , except on the Mac Pro there is an actual connector for expansion. Similar to Dual CPU's Motherboards, Logically this would be the way forward to a pro machine with ARM, it will be expensive which is the norm for a full specced machine, but they will keep entry level to 4.5 - 6k instead of the ridiculous 15to 30k machine they released for the last mac pro, then agin they could do nothing of the sort and just rerelease a X86 based architecture since the OS code will still run on it, its just speculation, don't now what they are cooking up and whatever they do everyone will still complain on the specs or expandability instead of using the damn machines ! Whatever they release it will make oder machines more value fr money which is a good thing for everyone
