rijklau Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Just to share some WIP done with help of my newly obtained A:M. Quite a few other software was used but A:M played an important part. These are unfinished prints form a 3D printer. ...with sprayed primer What comes after will be a lot of handy work such as polishing and painting, unfortunately not digital. So might not be appropriate for posting in A:M forum. Cheers, Rijk Quote
Admin Rodney Posted September 14, 2016 Admin Posted September 14, 2016 Very nice. polishing and painting, unfortunately not digital. So might not be appropriate for posting in A:M forum. I don't see why not. Other folks want to create cool real world objects too. Quote

pixelplucker Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Nice prints. Looks like you got an sla printer, which one did you get? Been using the Formlabs Form1+ here for a while now. You may find that the clear resin's typically perform better than the pigmented resins and offer a better finish. You can easily paint them with acrylic based hobby paints ie Testors etc. Pigmented resins tend to settle over long print times, cloud the PDMS pads and require more mixing and maintenance. They do nothing for resolution of the print. Quote
a.quaihoi Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Speaking on 3D prints, one of our local 3D printing companies just had this large format printer installed here in Melbourne, Australia, I'm going to see them next week to get some prices ! check it out here : http://www.omus.com.au Quote
rijklau Posted September 15, 2016 Author Posted September 15, 2016 Okay, thanks everyone. I'll try to update this thread if things goes well. pixelplucker: I'm using a Form 1+ too for just over a year (i.e. warranty just expired). It started out as an outstanding printer but since then I'll suffered two major breakdowns included one swopping. As a matter of fact it just broke again tonight. I'm afraid it might be the end of it. If that is the case, the above printed heads might very well be the last for a long while. While trying to get the printer fixed, I'll continue to work on the current prints. Rijk Quote
rijklau Posted September 16, 2016 Author Posted September 16, 2016 After first round of "coarse" polishing, imperfections shows up. These will require some putty work and further sanding and polishing. Quote
rijklau Posted September 18, 2016 Author Posted September 18, 2016 Thanks, David. After 3 rounds of polishing, finally they are ready for the base paint. Next step, something you might hardly imagine a man doing, applying makeup. Rijk Quote

Admin Rodney Posted October 8, 2016 Admin Posted October 8, 2016 Ha! I was going to ask what the slot in the top of the head was for and now I know... the 'real' hair. Quote
