I don't know if this is new or not, but I just found out that bitmap plus materials work with imported props! AND so does the matcap shader. I did not try other shaders - but I'm guessing they work as well.

Way cool! That will save me tons of time since I do so many models that are stl's and need good renderings on them.

Nice chapel.. looks familiar ;0

The next A:M release will be able to import STL-files as props (and model) too.

See you

I typically export obj files and convert those to stl once I double check sizes etc. Not a big deal.

I only use the stl files for the output service companies I use for 3d printing or laser engraving.

You can EXPORT to .STL format already in v17. So there should be less reason to use OBJ as an middle man in that process unless you want to edit it in another program. Fuchur seems to be suggesting that we'll soon be able to IMPORT .STL files as well very soon. :)

I use a cad program and/or 3d Coat for most of my 3d print jobs though I do use AM as an intermediate program and convert those in 3d Coat.

For the most part OBJ files work fine for program hopping.
