higginsdj Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Hi all, Non paying...... I am taking 7 mths off work next year to do an animated short. What I need are Mentors/Critics to view my progress. People who aren't afraid to give me their full and frank opinions. Note that I am NOT after people who will just say "I like it" or "I don't like it" etc. I need those who are willing to spend the time to say why. At present I haven't decided on the platform (AM or Blender). Both have their good and bad points and my pre production is currently building the main characters (2) on both platforms. I will definitely be using Blender for some things (ie the NLE and Render nodes for post work), but if I do switch to Blender for the bulk of the work I don't want to lose my Mentors/Critics. I am posting here because I know many people here and I trust their judgment. Note that I won't be looking for advice on 'how to' do anything. My biggest problem is the ability to review and critique my own work. If my post is inappropriate (because I might be using something other than AM) then just tell me or delete this post. My contact information: Cheers Quote
Darkwing Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 how involved would this be on a critiquing level? I may not be so good at being a mentor, but I am quite good with reviewing and critiquing. We covered critiquing art in Art 12 and I do it off and on with movies by writing my own reviews. If you're willing to hear the good and the bad news, I'd be willing to give it. Depending on how involved this would be of course, time is limited these days. Quote
higginsdj Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 As full and frank and as detailed as possible - on any aspect - story, storyboard, direction, lighting, acting etc. Ideally as detailed as Ken in this thread or me in this thread 2 - good or bad. I need to hear other points of view - if nothing more than to get me to think about something from a different viewpoint. Cheers Quote
Darkwing Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 well, i can't necessarily give tech tips like on how to do something, but i can tell you things that would improve it, get rid of, try again etc Quote
Hash Fellow robcat2075 Posted December 30, 2009 Hash Fellow Posted December 30, 2009 I'd jump in but I'm still worn out from critting on TWO. One thing I learned from TWO is that it is grindingly difficult to coach people on body mechanics. Poses... you can draw them a picture. But the motion between them... very hard to get the point across via the internet. It's entirely possible I'm lousy at getting the point across, too. Quote
MJL Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Robcat, I get your point. (ie: you usually get it across) Quote
higginsdj Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 Hi guys, Just wanted to point out that I wasn't after coaching as such - it's more about getting opinions that are different to my own. Cheers Quote
Muff Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 I am definitely a critic in all aspects. Maybe Not Technically, but visually for sure. Quote
Gerry Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Hi David- I would be more than happy to give you informed opinions and critiques on your project on an ongoing basis. Email me if you want, gerrymooneyATearthlinkDOTnet. Quote
nimblepix Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I can get involved David. I'm going to have the year off starting in May, so would have time to help. I'll also be needing some criticism on some things I'm putting together, so perhaps we could exchange critiques. : ) Quote
