*A:M User* Shelton Posted January 18, 2007 *A:M User* Posted January 18, 2007 Is there a limit of the number of decals in a scene? On a model? Steve Quote
Ganthofer Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Don't know if there is a physical limit, but many large decals may become a problem in realtime review, as I believe they have to be loaded into memory. Just my observation. Quote
Daniel Servolo Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 i had rendered videos with almost 80 decals on a scene!!! i had no problem, just my comment...oh! and by the way, your question is very intyeresting....ill look forward to read other answears... REGARDS! DANIEL Quote
The Bird Man of Alcatraz Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 In the last few months, I've modeled a very detailed ship. I'll release the details to all of you when I'm done. Anyhow, it likely has at least 200 decals covering the outside. A:M doesn't have any problem with this, but my old computer has a hard time. I'm running an HP 2 GHz Athlon with 512 MBs of RAM, plus a Radeon 9200 SE video card with 128 MBs of memory. I'm running A:M 11.1. Anyone think I should get a new computer? Quote
Dhar Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Anyone think I should get a new computer? Yeah! And an A:M upgrade as well! Pronto! Quote
Admin Rodney Posted January 18, 2007 Admin Posted January 18, 2007 Memory will be your primary problem with decals. One way of overcoming that is to use proxy images that take the place of the larger images until final render time. One way to do this with fairly good workflow might be to have three image folders: 1) Hi Rez images 2) Low Rez images 3) Working image folder Point A:M to the Working image folder and drag and drop images into it from the Hi and Low Rez folders as necessary. DarkLimit Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 -i just bought pretty much the same machine..... HP 2GHZ X2 3800+ Dual Core 256 radeon Xpress 200...... works like a charm..... I surggest u get a better video card and at least 2 GB of RAM...... Quote
The Bird Man of Alcatraz Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I'll look into a new computer. DarkLimit, I don't actually have a dual-core Athlon; its the old type of Athlon, so your system is actually quite newer. Quote
*A:M User* Shelton Posted January 18, 2007 Author *A:M User* Posted January 18, 2007 Thanks everyone. I was decalling an easel with tga files that I created and when I looked down at the PWS I had 10 decals and still had a few more to add. I took each decal into Painter and imported a projection and I only used half as many. I have not had any problems on a 2.2 ghz AMD 64 4000 with 2 gig of ram but what I was thinking about was the render farm where each machine is only 512mb. Thanks again Steve Quote
case Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 hmmm well i dont think there is a limit at all! Quote
