This is not the contest thread but don't miss it.

Go over to The Contest Thread and Vote!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is just my almost ran image thread.

Well, the pressure is off. I missed the deadline for the contest but as I had a couple of festive images on the boil I am going to post them here anyway.

This image was a mock up of what I was going for with my first image. It is all A:M, (11.1 and 12), but is a composite on three layers. When I finish working on the second image I will get back to this one, finishing the sleigh, better poses for the figures, get the hair flowing and add a proper snow storm with some moody lighting... I hope.

Here is another composite. Just testing:

The second image,( not shown yet), is my prefered concept and I will attempt to finish it. In the meantime this is the main character from the image, who is being textured at the moment. I haven't rigged him yet either.

More later... :)

Thanks, Dhar.

I'm really not bothered about missing the contest deadline though. I enjoy the challenge of trying to come up with an interesting concept and making it happen in time for the voting but If it's late it's late. It's all good practice.

Paul,

Since you won't give yourself a hard time for not entering the Christmas contest... I will!

Wonderful models, Paul!

I'm glad Santa got rid of the reindeer. I understand they were terrible greenhouse gas emitters.

John, Rodney and Robert, thank you! :)

Well, I wouldn't call them wonderful models but they are gradually getting closer to being useable.

Ha, ha!

I'm sorry to disappoint you, Robert, but ... we've got reindeer too:

However these reindeer have been fitted with Santa's secret methane converters, which magically turn methane into helium. How else could a reindeer fly. ;)

These guys are going for a shave and an antler remodelling before Christmas eve.

Oh, and a little misuse of the specular colour.;)

An early test that I did of reindeer on a path:

A different santa and sleigh. It was just a really rough test to see what render times I could expect.

Hi Paul,

It's all just wonderful, Santa looks great, the reindeer is cool, and the village/hamlet is just as one imagines it. The whole christmas-winter thing is a very strong image. Even living in the southern hemisphere one identifies snow with christmas. I remember one winter (July/August) when it was snowing outside, my son (3 years old at the time) looked out and said 'Father Christmas (Santa) is coming!'.

Thanks for sharing

Thank you, Steve!

I'm glad that I can bring a little bit of the Christmas spirit to you out in Oz. Something to help keep you cool as you approach your summer solstice.

Thanks for the story. :)
