Newbert_Zero
this is my very first still. I made the model myself too.
KenH
Good first. The trick is adding details to models.
Newbert_Zero
im trying to make it reflect better....almost mirror like how do i do that? I want the reflextion to be in more detail.
inkblot
That's a great background. You can make it more reflective by increasing the Reflectivity in the Properties pane.
higginsdj
If you want proper reflections then you will need to estend the background 360 deg around the object! A 'cheat' is to add an environment map to the object (import and image, create a new material, change material to environment map and choose the image you imported then apply that to the object) Cheers

DarkLimit
Hi Newbert - An old trick is to create a SKYDOME sphere and apply the sky texture map to it.... Make sure the SKYDOME sits entirely over ur scene this way ur object will retain reflections on all sides....
higginsdj
Remember your heirachies. Do you already have a surface applied to the model or a material?
apprentice
I like the colors
Zaryin
Your UFO looks goo so far. Add a skydome. Add some glowing "nurnies", or extras, to the hull. You get it looking even better.
Mr. Jaqe
"do not worry humans, we come in... well, UFO's" looking good! I reflection is looking good already, but then again, that's just an opinnion
Newbert_Zero
now what? it looks like a peice of crap and it took five minutes to render.
starwarsguy
I'd lower the reflectivity. Also, add some detail to the hull, like plates and mechanical stuff. Then it'll look much better.
.:shortdog:.
I agree with starwarsguy...because it is reflecting so much, the UFO looks almost like it is partially transparent.
Newbert_Zero
i know its to reflective but if i lower the reflectivity it still looks bad. how do i get the reflection to look more real? and what do you mean bye mechanical stuff? thanks for the help! starwarsguy
Like, ummmm, wires, and boxes, and wierd shaped plates... Maybe a bump map or something as well.
Biotron2000
Take a look at the difference between these two pictures of the Millennium Falcon I found via Google Images. They are the same shape, but details make it realistic. Not saying your UFO needs that much detail, just demonstrating the point.
starwarsguy
LOL. I made the Millenium Falcon in A:M once. I went a little crazy with the details, so it takes about 3 hours to render...

Sacman
Actually the second pic you posted with the starfield looks pretty sweet. It doesn't look even remotely like a flying saucer but it has a cool planet halo look to it. If you could do somethng about the middle of it, it would make a pretty sweet pic. HeadlessBill
As a visual reference for you, I was trying to find an image of the Martian saucers from the beginning of 'Mars Attacks!', but I couldn't find something detailed enough. Well, anyway, if you haven't seen the movie, you may want to rent it. I have a feeling it may guide you toward some of the suggestions being made here. iocane
For a flying saucer I did once, I solved the detail problem by using the linoleum bump material and chrome material to the saucer part of it. Its important to have the chrome material first and then the linoleum bump material. The projection map on the linoleum material looks good when its set to repeat at 3 by 3. I also had the sky dome ambience at 100 percent.

iocane
Heres a example of that ufo, I also changed the perscentage under projection map to 150. And I added 5 lights in a circle above. Intesity at 15 percent for those.
