  1. Hey all, I've made a detour and am working on Captain Kirk for no good reason at all. Now I've started (was using a trackpad which isn't good for modeling BTW) but my main problem is lacking of good side and front views and ones with a higher resolution than 100 pixels. So if anyone knows of any, please direct me to them
  2. OH Stalled Trek, I was so looking forward to that
  3. My recommendation too is that no matter how sucky it looks, complete the model. For some reason, I find faces are one of those ones with a clearly visible learning curve that once you complete a face, have it critiqued, then go and model another, you will notice a drastic improvement from the first. Depending on how detailed you want to go too, you may want to skip nostrils. They really can gum up the works sometimes if you're new to modeling faces
  4. Excellent, I'll give it a whirl next week on my next day off
  5. Thanks. I have noted that the bump map posted above is wrong as I removed those darker lines running down his cheek. BUt yeah, overall I'm pretty happy with him. My body as usual is iffy, but it's better than anything I've done before so I guess I get points there Still have the facial rig left to do, but I kinda need to find out how to do the right rig for AMTrack
  6. Here he is, Captain Henderson of the USS Pegasus!
  7. I would recommend the Win version. The Mac one has certain... issues that require workarounds and in some cases, tiptoeing around the program. You will probably have better luck with the Win version than the Mac one.
  8. What I would suggest is doing all the character stuff and then doing any camera motions. I dunno, it's something I'll be playing with myself in a few weeks so I can post my findings if you all like (when I get to it of course )
  9. I haven't tried it yet (intend to soon for Red Squad) but from what I gather, it's pretty much like regular rotoscoping. In an ction or chor, where the character is still facing forward, simply apply your video rotos in each view pane like you would a modeling window and simply scrub through it, adding keyframes and positioning your character to fit the video.
  10. Here ya go! Yeah, when I first started this venture, I didn't expect to be using my rotos as decals, so I only have the right side of the face and that front of the face. Now if'n I had the left side, then we'd be talkin!
  11. Thanks Rodney, I really see an improvement from my earlier characters to my abilities now. Now as long as the poses and things work well with the face then we should be good. As for the dark lines, could be that lighting mixed with the SSS. Here's an incomplete render of the front with no lighting aside from the modeling view lighting:
  12. Still some tweaks to do with the SSS and normals mostly, but this is where I'm at currently:
  13. I've actually used SSS before on the ELZ characters. I'll give it a whirl with these guys, but I may not be willing to sacrifice render time just for that extra little bit as hair is gonna add a massive chunk to rendering. On another note, here's his head copied onto the semi complete body EDIT: Never mind, going to use SSS even though it's gonna add a hefty chunk of time to the render
  14. Also, here's Henderson's head as of right now. I'm getting Alan to send me a couple new angles of his head for texturing purposes, but it's pretty cool, this is so far done only with one side and front view and I'm actually kinda pleased with it Hair is hair though. That will take some time.
  15. Not really. CBS/Paramount are finally getting over the fact that fan films are and will be made of Star Trek. They used to make a big deal of it years ago, but thanks to projects like New Voyages and whatnot, they've sort of calmed down on that sort of thing
  16. Figured I'd throw this up here. This is the uniform design we settled on for Starfleet, it's designed to be like the Star Trek Online uniform, but fit the Red Squad look a little more. These were some of the other designs we toyed around with before settling on the one above.
  17. Or perhaps reversing it, so that the wipe starts at the feet and the particle emitter goes up(?)
  18. Well, I managed to find 5 minutes to make a few minor adjustments. First up, I touched up the decal some, now he looks less like an 80 year old and more like a 50 year old (as he should). I've also worked some on widening the bridge of his nose, however I've yet to fix the mess I made on his forehead
  19. I just copy and paste the one from the Data files
  20. Yeah, noses are one of those spots I'm getting better at them and maybe one day they'll even have nostrils.... This is a fellow who lives in Australia, found him via the internet and he voiced Henderson in Episode 3 and will be reprising his role in Episode 4, so it's his face mapped onto his face
  21. I thought I'd just share a current WIP of one of the characters for Red Squad. I seem to be getting closer to conquering facial texturing which I'm quite proud of I must say The problem with how I did it though was that I only had two angles so in the future I would get more angles out of the actors before creating their facial map
  22. When I was little there was a commercial for a terrible Christmas movie that ran so much we got sick of seeing it. I don't recall the name of the movie but it had a long list of things you would SEE like "SEE Santa's magic reindeer!" and "SEE his magic workshop!" and the last one was "SEE Santa's magic telescope!" So nowadays whenever I make a movie I like to claim you will "SEE Santa's magic telescope!" I've also used that for party invitations and company department meetings. To be quite honest I think I've seen the movie maybe, well MST3K riffed this movie called Santa Claus in which Santa battles the Devil over Christmas and one of the things was Santas Telescope (looked like a big eye on a 1960s war of the worlds flying machine)
  23. Ah, gotcha, good stinking as my mother would say. When I get a day off (that's assuming I will get one....) I'll play with burning a disk. Big thing is that the raw video file is 24fps cause the program judges it based on what the clip was (and I do assume this was exported at 24fps). On another note, just watched it, much enjoyment have I Well done everyone!
