Nice, thanks for sharing. Another reason to appreciate these amazing animals.

thanks for the heads up - the 80% deal was nice for a pretty deep toolkit always wanted to get it since the beta days when I missed the introductory deal for the suite

a simple Structure scanner hooked to an iPhone or iPad is the best bang for the buck and it's portable not good for fine details/small models, but good for people, statues, cars, large toys, etc. laser limits the materials to be used, intense lighting can make scanning difficult here is an example of something I scanned a few months ago - statue -> scan -> 3d print :-) http://imgur.com/a/Z34An

Glad to see you back, Martin. I enjoyed chatting at the shows and attending the Siggraph after parties. Martin's Minutes was always a good read. Sorry to hear about all of the issues in the past. Money and fame really bring out the worst in people, even from family and friends. Thanks for making such inspirational software over the years. I'm still a happy user since 1994. People like you demystified the 3D landscape and made it more fun and approachable, not elitist. Travel is the best, but animation/film-making and creating music are a close second. :-)

Thanks guys. I contacted him, and I'm waiting to hear back. Hopefully...

I'm revisiting an old topic. As I'm learning more Python stuff, I want to find a way to make a new Python 3D mathematical model plugin for A:M like Petr Sorfa's from years ago. Is there a way to peek inside the HXT so I can code a new compatible version? Otherwise I will have to use the A:M SDK and try to re-create the plugin. What is the best way to do this? I'm still a beginner in the programming/plugin arena but I'm motivated. Thanks...

I miss the old HASP days. It was so convenient and portable - one stick for models and app, and the dongle for the launch. I lost mine long ago, and when I found out the support was killed (no replacement) it was a sad day.

People also confuse the Theremin sound in the Beach Boys "Good Vibrations" when it's actually a Trautonium. It's controlled by a finger moving a contact along a wire, kind of like an Ondes-Martenot. I have a basic Moog Etherwave Theremin which works great, but it requires a lot of practice/technique to be musical. I setup a pitch-to-MIDI interface for it, which is great for controlling synths. Does anyone know if the old A:M MIDI plugin by Stefan Gross still works? I would like to use my Theremin via MIDI to control my characters.

Here it is on an old abandonware Mac site. Try it with a current emulator. http://macintoshgarden.org/games/gravitation-ltd-50 I remember the older B/W version on my Mac Plus... good stuff.

Damn fine work in those smoke vids. I was working on a cigarette character long ago for an anti-smoking PSA (scrubbed) and he could have used some nice smoke like this.

Fix your STLs with Netfabb Cloud Services (free): http://cloud.netfabb.com I used this while at Siggraph last year before printing something on the Makerbot demo printer. It came out great.

Cool, thanks. I guess the only other major question is once I install the un-expiring version I can also recover the master.lic file and reload it easily if necessary? Sometimes I'm away from the internet for a while (logistically or on purpose) and it would be nice to be able to fix/re-install my software without logging in somewhere. I used to get a key to install the software and then the CD would be a key disc as well. Since there is no CD anymore I'm guessing that either new version needs an initial online registration to tie the installer to a given computer and thus create the master.lic file. Is that how it works? Thanks for the info... If you save your "master.lic" file, you can re-install on the same computer without having to contact anyone. The $299 version never expires, but, you will only be able to use the updates for that year...so, if the last update is something like v17g, that will be the newest version you could use. As I've said, the $299 version doesn't expire.

I think it's time for me to get into the new version mode (still using v.11 or something). I wish you guys still supported the Hasp dongles, they were great. I have some questions before paying which aren't obvious on the store site. If I get the subscription version ($79), will it expire one year from the date of purchase/activation? At that point will it cease to work on my computer until I pay for a new subscription? If my computer crashes is it a simple process to regain access to my purchased version via re-install/online re-register (same day, even on weekends)? I'm more used to the old model of buying the CD and using it until I absolutely have to have the latest and greatest version. Until then I don't have to purchase any sort of upgrade. If I get the other version priced much higher ($299) on the site with printed manuals, DVD data, etc. will it expire after a year or can I continue to use that downloaded version until I'm ready to upgrade (even it it's 2-3 years later)? I know it no longer comes on CD, but is the download installer different than the $79 version? If it isn't different then I don't see why it costs so much more, since the total cost of the manuals and data DVD are not enough to justify the higher price. A non-expiring installer is worth the extra price. Finally, are the new model files backward compatible/exportable to older A:M versions that I have on other computers? These are nit-picky questions, but I want to fully understand my options. Thanks!

Threw this together for fun...

It looks like a hexagonal playing field for a strategy game. I can't think of a sci-fi reference. I was also going to say Dyson Sphere which is too big of course. -
I was always a big fan of Den's work. I remember the Digital Dolls site he setup many years ago that had most of the user group in a tizzy... too much adult content. It was fine with me. The human body has those parts, and I don't see why a 3D model of it shouldn't. Lambrina was one of the models on the site, and she was posing on cars, doing pole dancing, etc. and it all looked amazing. It's a good thing I saved the site while it was still up. I need to try some of the techniques mentioned by others here. I'm out it with all of the rig choices and settings around now. This stuff changes so quickly.

I'm guessing the InstallRig is part of a newer version of AM right? I've been away for a while. If I use any skeleton (setup machine, InstallRig) other than the standard included rig then I won't be able to use the included actions. That isn't good since I'm lazy and I like to use the actions as starting points. What's this Taylor skelton I read about in TAOAM? Is there a good tutorial that explains the intricacies of the Thom model skeleton and the hidden bones, etc?

I usually work 'til 6 or so on weekdays, and I work another job on occasional Sundays. The best time for me to meet would probably be a Saturday or an occasional Sunday, unless people want to meet after 7 or 8pm on a weeknight. I don't know what would be a good place to meet. Usually coffee houses or bakeries don't have much table space and they can be noisy. But I guess they would be better than nothing. I live in Mountain View. kingvidiot83@yahoo.com

I just read this after posting in a similar listing... Is this a dead topic? Does anyone want to do this in the SF Bay area?
-
Any chance of creating a real HUG (Hash User Group) in the SF Bay Area? I think people lost interest... but it would be cool.

I live in the South Bay (near San Jose), so any group in the Bay Area would be great.
